The largest natural body of water in all of North Dakota, Devils Lake is

located in the northeastern region of the state. The charming town

surrounding the lake offers Main Street USA - style shopping, dining and

plenty of activities for the whole family. Fishing in the spring and summer

provide mouth-watering catches - from 10-pound pike to walleye worthy

of wall hanging. Fall is when the trophy-winners are caught; and in winter,

ice fishing takes over. Water adventurers can rent a pontoon, swim, kayak

or waterski.

Getting to and from Devils Lake is easy! Located conveniently on US-

Hwy 2, Devils Lake is 90 miles west of the Minnesota border. The city

is serviced with two flights daily to Denver via United Airlines and

Amtrak's Empire Builder drives through daily.

GET OUT IN THE OUTDOORS

The numbers show how much anglers love Devils Lake. One-forth of all

non-resident 3-day and 10-day fishing licenses are sold in Devils Lake.

And here, the fishing season never closes! Enjoy walleye, perch, pike and

white bass all- year round!

Spring Fishing

As the ice starts to melt, you want to enjoy the northern end of the lake for

great fishing. You will see many anglers fishing around the bridges and

the shoreline where the ice comes off first.

Summer Fishing

Take advantage of a guide, or venture out on your own. With over 170,000

acres to fish, you are sure to find a spot where the fish are biting. Troll

along the rocky shoreline, anchor around a bridge or tie-up to a tree to

find the best catch.

Fall Fishing

Walleye dreams become a reality every fall here on Devils Lake. “All my

biggest fish have come in the fall; it’s what I call trophy walleye time,” said

professional angler Johnnie Candle.

Open water fishing usually runs until mid-November, with all areas of the

lake becoming very productive. The many year-classes of fish are equally

distributed, but the 26 to 30 inchers show up now.

Fall Cast n’ Blast

Devils Lake is also an ideal destination for a “Cast and Blast.” Waterfowl

hunt in the morning and wet a pole in the afternoon on one of our

gorgeous fall days. Catch your limit of both by dinner.

Ice Fishing

Devils Lake is known as the “Perch Capital of the World.” You will find

jumbo perch in the system and more than likely catch your limit of them as

well. Rent an ice house for convenience, or book one of our many guides

to stay mobile and on that perch bite. Venture out on your own using one

of our nine conveniently located boat landings to get out on the lake.

Shore Fishing Piers

With a $600,000 budget (state and local funding and grants), three fishing

piers were constructed to create new fishing hotspots with ramps for

physically impaired and elderly anglers - kids too. With or without a boat,

from shore or the middle of the lake, anglers will catch fish on Devils Lake.

Water Recreation

Take out a kayak or paddle board, rent a pontoon with friends or family,

jet ski in Creel Bay; the water recreation possibilities are endless. Take

a pit stop at Bobber’s at Woodland Resort and wind down with a cold

beverage and live entertainment on weekends.

Creel Bay Golf Course

We have an 18-hole golf course located along the shores of Devils Lake. It

is a wide open course with water and sand hazards and tree-lined fairways.

This challenging course will thrill even the most avid golfer. After your

round, relax in the new club house with a wall of windows and outdoor

patio for an even better view of the town’s namesake.

Sullys Hill National Game Preserve

Hike Sully’s nature trails - as one of the nation’s 500 National Wildlife

Refuges, you’ll see bison and elk, prairie dogs, wood ducks, warblers and

so much more. Climb to the top of Sullys Hill for a panoramic view of

the surrounding rolling hills or to the Devils Lake Vista for a view of the

lake and the hardwood forest. Stop into the visitor center and check out

binoculars or snow shoes, take in the amphitheater or drive the auto tour

and spend a morning or afternoon on the hill.

Graham’s Island State Park

With 1,100 acres of wooded land, the park showcases 130 different plant

species and is the perfect place for birding. Enjoy hiking in the spring and

summer, or cross-country skiing in the winter months. Swim on the beach

or fish from the dock. A new convenience store in the park has everything

you need.

Fort Totten Little Theater

Each July, a Broadway style musical using a combination of local and

professional talent is produced and performed at the historic site. The

show runs Wednesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays.

Spirit Lake Casino and Resort

No need to travel to Las Vegas! It's all right here in the Lake Region: Top-

notch gambling, great dining, quality shows and lavish accommodations.

Try your hand at one of the 650 slot machines, Poker, Blackjack, Craps or

Bingo. The casino also offers a High Stakes room, a non-smoking area, and

all machines are ticket in/ticket out. Enjoy the seemingly endless buffet or

go "to the top" to The View, featuring windows overlooking the lake and

the marina as well as the finest in dining.

Other options for charitable gaming throughout the Lake Region include

pull tabs, blackjack and the wheel.

GET TO KNOW OUR HISTORY

Built in 1867, the Fort Totten Historic Site has served many purposes over

the decades, have been restored to the look of its use as a fort. If you

listen carefully, you can almost hear the soldiers marching in the square.

For a more complete history, set aside time to enter the original buildings.

Stop at the Interpretive Center, Gift Shop or take in a play. And why not

complete the experience? Book a room at the Totten Trail Historic Inn

(Frontier style bed and breakfast).

Stop in to investigate the Lake Region Heritage Center, that houses unique

history of the Lake Region. The Sheriff's House Museum is a stop where

you can step back in time. It features parlors, kitchen and dining rooms,

five bedrooms that have changed little from the time the residence was

occupied in 1911. It also features exhibits narrating and interpreting the

history of Devils Lake.

EXPLORE DOWNTOWN

In three square blocks you’ll see turn-of-the-century architecture with

20 National Register buildings built between 1885 and 1914. While

downtown, peruse the charming shops and cafés tucked away on Main

Street.

A TASTE OF THE LAKE REGION

Breakfast

Looking for something other than a fast-food meal? Enjoy home baked

breads and rolls at Kneadful Things or the Pig Out Omelet at Mr. and Mrs.

J's. The Cedar Inn serves up family dining at it's best - make sure to ask for

the Cedar Sausage or the homemade tomato soup for lunch - you won't

be disappointed.

Lunch

Travel out to Proz Lakeside at Woodland Resort for lunch on the patio

alongside the lake. Or maybe it is a day to enjoy the soup bar at Old Main

Street Café. Proz End of the Line is always a fun place to eat. If it's raining,

enjoy eating in the red caboose; if the sun is out and the snow is melted,

you have the option of soaking up the day's rays at the outdoor Tiki Bar

where you can enjoy the homemade pizza. For a fast, hot, authentic meal,

Charras Mexican Restaurant has what you are looking for.

Dinner

Devils Lake has fine evening dining. On the edge of town is The Ranch

Steakhouse - voted the best steak house in North Dakota! It is a restored

barn that specializes in beef, fish and pasta, offers a cozy atmosphere from

the fresh baked bread to the decadent tray of desserts for the close. If you

didn't lounge at the Cove Lakeside for lunch, make it a choice for supper.

Watch the sun set over the lake from the outdoor patio or looking through

the big windows of the main building. In the summer start the meal with

a beverage at Bobbers, or end at the fire pits with a night cap. If you want

a more authentic meal, head to Charras Mexican Restaurant or Roma's

Italian Restaurant for a slice of Italy.
