Our Goals as a UIUC Organization

• To provide healthcare to communities abroad in Central America

• To expose students to prevalent global and medical issues that many of these communities face

• To teach students basic clinical skills and basic medical / dental knowledge

What Can Students Do Abroad?• Be the first individual who the patient meets• Students will actively triage, diagnose, and suggest

treatment plan with the supervision and review of a physician. (groupindependently as skills progress)

• Translators available.• Satisfaction of correct diagnosis, and learn through

incorrect ones. • Go on house calls with doctors to see the conditions

that individuals in the community live in• You are there to help patients as well as learn

through observation and careful instruction from physicians

• ACTIVELY DOING, NOT JUST SHADOWING!

Trip Outline

• January 3-11 to Nicaragua• 9 days– 2 days arriving/departing– 4-5 Clinic days– 1-2 “free” days

• Deadline for sign-up is October 5• Deadline for payment is November 22

• Medical/Pharmacy ~ $1250• Main payment is by mail (check only)– online donating through gofundme.com– We will have deferred payment plans as well as

financial aid– More information on these in upcoming meetings

• We encourage fundraising on your part as many business are willing to donate!!!
