Welcome to HLPC! Houston Lake Presbyterian Church is here for the glory of God to be a graciously redeemed worshiping body that proclaims and lives in the light of the gospel of Jesus Christ so that people, families, and communities in Houston County and beyond may know Christ in all His fullness. Please set all mobile phones to silent mode. Children of all ages are welcome in the worship service. Nursery is provided for children under 4 years of age. Parents are encouraged and welcome to utilize the crying room for infants and young children. Sound is also provided in the foyer.

The Lord’s Supper is being served this morning HLPC welcomes all Christians who are willing to forsake their sin and trust in Jesus Christ for salvation, and who are baptized members of a congregation that proclaims the gospel, to participate in the Lord’s Supper. Children who have been examined by the elders and admitted to the Lord’s Table are able to partake of this Sacrament. If you are not a Christian, or you are not prepared to share in this sacrament, we encourage you to spend this time in prayer.

(Note: The bread in the center cup is gluten-free.)

LORD’S DAY WORSHIP July 21, 2019

GATHERING Prelude We enter the sanctuary and gather as God’s people with the intent of worshiping the one, true and living God. Let the music being played remind us of our purpose here this morning. Welcome & Announcements Please fill out the connection card located in the seatbacks and drop it in the offering plate at the end of service. Silent Preparation for Worship †Call to Worship - The First Word We believe that God always initiates with sinners, so we begin worship with His Word, His invitation to us to gather in His name. Minister: Ascribe to the Lord, O heavenly beings, People: ascribe to the Lord glory and strength. Minister: Ascribe to the Lord the glory due His name; People: worship the Lord in the splendor of holiness. (Psalm 29:1-2) †Prayer for God’s Presence

†Hymn of Praise “All Praise to Him”

1. All praise to Him, the God of light Who formed the mountains by His might All praise to Him Who names the stars That sing His fame in skies afar All praise to Him Who reigns in love Who guides the galaxies above Yet bends to hear our every prayer With sovereign pow’r and tender care

2. All praise to Him whose love is seen In Christ the Son, the Servant King Who left behind His glorious throne To pay the ransom for His own All praise to Him Who humbly came To bear our sorrow, sin, and shame Who lived to die, Who died to rise The all-sufficient sacrifice

3. All praise to Him whose pow’r imparts The love of God within our hearts The Spirit of all truth and peace The fount of joy and holiness To Father, Son, and Spirit now Our souls we lift, our wills we bow To You, the triune God, we raise With loving hearts our song of praise

†Corporate Confession of our Faith Christians have united around this statement of belief for centuries. We join with other believers throughout the world and throughout history in declaring our faith. The Apostles’ Creed Trinity Hymnal p.845 REMEMBERING THE GOSPEL Call to Confess Our Sins Confession of sin is a way that we are refreshed in the gospel and are reminded that it is truly good news. Rather than wallowing in our sin we deal with sin and guilt by confessing it and claiming God’s promise of forgiveness in Christ. Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, O LORD, my rock and my redeemer. (Psalm 19:14) Silent Prayers of Confession Hymn of Confession & Grace “The Lord’s My Shepherd, I’ll Not Want” Hymn #87 Words of Grace Minister: For you, O Lord, are good and forgiving,

abounding in steadfast love to all who call upon you. (Psalm 86:5)

People: We are forgiven and declared righteous in God’s

sight because of the limitless mercy shown to us in Christ! Praise be to God!

†Grace Makes Us Gracious: Greeting One Another Therefore welcome one another as Christ has welcomed you,

for the glory of God. (Romans 15:7) †Hymn of Celebration "These Great Things"

1. How can it be, this truth divine, Declared by God above That all things by His grand design Work good for us by love

2. Called by our Lord in purposed ends No tragedy shall win No curse for those He calls His friends He saved us from our sins Refrain What shall we say to these great things? Of mystery sublime That if He is for us we can sing Now and for all time

3. Foreknown by Him with Hearts made new To His Son we conform No pow'r on earth can this undo For those He's made reborn Refrain

4. First He did choose, and called He then To surely justify For those of the faith beyond our ken He soon will glorify Refrain

Prayers of the People Ruling Elder Tieman Slagh

(Concluded by the Lord’s Prayer) Our Father Who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, for Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen. HEARING GOD SPEAK †Scripture Reading Mark 10:17-27 p.846

Minister: This is the Word of the Lord! People: Thanks be to God!

Message Rev. Dr. Paul L. Bankson

The Hard Sayings of Jesus Why Do You Call Me Good?

Hymn of Preparation “How Sweet and Awesome Is the Place” (vv.1 & 4) Hymn #469 MEETING GOD AT HIS TABLE Words of Institution Sharing of the Bread and the Cup RESPONDING TO THE GOD OF GRACE Offering Our giving to God is a response to the gospel. We give as an act of worship and also as an expression of our trust in God to meet all our needs. And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having

all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work. (2 Corinthians 9:8) DEPARTING †Benediction - The Last Word God always has the last word in our worship, and for those who are in Christ Jesus these are always words of blessing. These words come from God, and not from the Pastor. As an expression of receiving this blessing we open our hands. †Singing of the Doxology Hymn #731 All Scripture quotations are from the English Standard Version (ESV).
