Foundation Stage
What is the Early Years Foundation Stage?
The Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum is based on the recognition that children learn best
through play and active learning.
The 7 areas of learning
• Communication and language development- listening and attention, understanding and speaking.
• Physical development- moving and handling and health and self care.
• Personal, social and emotional development-self confidence and self awareness, managing feelings and behaviour, and making relationships.
• Literacy development-reading and writing.
• Mathematics- number and shape, space and measure.
• Understanding the world- the world, people and communities and technology.
• Expressive arts and design- being imaginative and exploring and using media and materials.
In our classroom we have:
• A writing area• A small world area• A construction area• A reading area• Sand and water• A creative and malleable area• A listening area • A self accessed snack table • Our own outdoor area

School Sessions
Morning Session 8.55 am - 12.00 noon
Lunch Break 12.00 noon - 1.00 pm
Afternoon Session 1.00 pm - 3.15 pm
The doors are locked at 9.00 am. For security purposes latecomers are requested to report to the school office.
Pastoral Care
Our school has a family atmosphere. Our children care for each other. We give the older children responsibility to help where
appropriate such as;
• Lunch times• Play times
• School library visits
Mrs Lord is our school Mentor and is available to chat with children and/or parents if ever needed.
Mrs Breen is our school Attendance Officer.
PLEASE LABEL each item of your child’s clothing, (jumper, t-shirt, pants and all PE kit including each pump! ).
PE KitPE is twice a week (Monday and Friday) and the children willneed a draw-string pump bag. This is the kit we like them to have – a round-necked white T-shirt, black shorts and black pumps. All kit will need to be clearly labelled, with your child’s name.
Earrings are not allowed.

Every morning the infant children (Reception, Year 1 and Year 2) have milk, as well as free fruit.
