The Mayor’s Youth Recognition Awards are now open for nominations of young people aged 12-25 who live in the City of Playford area who have displayed outstanding personal qualities. Nominations in the following categories can be made. • Overcoming challenging life situations• Determination • Acts of kindness• Community involvement Entry is free, winners receive $250.00 and professionally presented trophy at the Youth Awards celebration dinner in October 2009. This competition is for you, are you tired of the negative perceptions that the young people in the North have placed next to their name? Well this is your chance to do something constructive about it. Applications are NOW open for young people aged 12 – 25 to submit a short film, 3 – 5 minutes in length with the theme of positive images of young people in the North.

The Northern Sound System, in conjunction with Shop Skate Create, are again offering school aged bands the opportunity to showcase their talents at the 2009 NSS High School Battle of the Bands Competition. 16 Young Adelaide bands are ready to rock for their place in the finals, the winners walking away with some fantastic prizes, including the chance to perform at the ‘Elizapalooza’ Music festival on October 24th 09. Youth Action are now calling for expressions of interests from young local bands who would like to battle it out in “09”. The hub is a place where young people can come and hang out after school. There will be recreation activities such as Wii, pool table, table tennis, arts and crafts and heap more. The hub is free for all young people aged 12-18 years old. Youth workers from Gawler health service along with volunteers from Gawler council will facilitate the hub weekly. Transport will be provided to young people who cannot get to the hub.

The South Australia Police will be conducting a fee 90 minute presentation aimed at providing information regard-ing laws, trends and facts which affect drivers on our roads and you are invited to attend.
