• Projected enrollment: 847 students (215 in grade 9)

• 98 faculty and staff members

• Length of school day: 7:45 a.m. - 2:40 p.m.

The role of the counselor

• To make sure students are emotionally well.

Scheduling

• Students are recommended for courses and course levels based on 8th grade teacher recommendations. (MARCH)

• Recommendations are fluid and parent has override privileges.

• Scheduling conflicts must be resolved in June.

• Graduation requirements (outlined in the curriculum booklet) set forth by NJDOE and Madison BOE. Students are expected to exceed graduation requirements.

Mathematics DepartmentThe Mathematics Department aims to reach high standards by creating learning experiences that foster problem-solving, higher-order thinking, and collaboration in order to enable all students to adapt to an ever-changing society and prepare them for college and careers.

SchedulingCurrent Honors Algebra 1 students will be recommended for “Honors Geometry” or “Geometry” in 9th grade.

Current Enriched Algebra 1 students will be recommended for “Geometry” in 9th grade.

Current Math 8 students will be recommended for Algebra 1. With teacher recommendation, students may be recommended to take Algebra 1 Seminar concurrently with Algebra 1.

Placement Criteria8th grade teachers determine the math course students should take. The following criteria are used in making these recommendations and placing students appropriately:

Calculators, Extra Help, and Enrichment

A graphing calculator (TI-84 Plus Calculator) isused in all classes, beginning with Algebra 1.

Math tutorial is offered every block of the day, Including lunch, for extra support and help.

Enrichment can be sought by participation in the AMTNJ High School Mathematics Contest and/or the American Mathematics Contest 10 (AMC10).

– Are 6 credits with a lab

• Lab meets as a double period one time per 4 day cycle

Course Highlights of the World Languages Department

• French, Spanish, Italian and Chinese are offered, ranging from Level 1 through AP.

• The objective in the World Language courses is to develop students’ listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills while increasing cultural knowledge of countries where the language is spoken.

• A variety of methods and techniques are used to enhance students’ comprehension, fluency and cultural awareness.

Scheduling8th grade teachers determine whether students should take:

– Level 1, Level 2 or Level 3– 8th grade teachers make these

recommendations using a variety of criteria, including a student’s grade in the current class and a placement exam.

Mission of Visual and Performing Arts Department

• The ability to enjoy music, art, theatre and dance, and to participate on an individual or group level, is an integral part of daily life. The courses in the V&PA department are designed to appeal to varied interests and levels. There is something for everyone, from the casual photographer to the future music major.

• In addition to the wide variety of classes offered during the school day, we offer a multitude of extra-curricular opportunities for students. All are welcome and encouraged to get involved!

• Class Meetings are held to review policies and procedures and occur, on average, 2-3 times per school year.
