Welcome to NYOS Charter School
Kindergarten Round Up 2021Se enviará por correo electrónico una grabación de esta presentación en español.
Volunteer Info• Typically, NYOS families are encouraged to collectively volunteer at least 20 hours total each school year.
• In the past, we have provided many ways for parents and guardians to volunteer:
• Chaperoning study trips• Helping out at school-wide events, like Field Day or the Book Fair• Helping out at PTA events like Jag Fest• Helping prepare classroom supplies or assisting with class events• Doing maintenance projects during school breaks, like painting or power washing
Once volunteer opportunities become available, you can complete a required background check and sign up for volunteer shifts through nyos.org after your background check is approved.
Other Ways to Support NYOS
● NYOS provides innovative, high-quality learning opportunities that can be found at private schools, but without the tuition!
● As a tuition-free public charter school, NYOS receives $700 less per student in funding than traditional public schools.
● This means your support is CRUCIAL in allowing us to continue allocating resources towards our commitment to academic excellence.
Other Ways to Support NYOS
● An easy way to give is through our Not Your Ordinary Giving Form!
■ You will receive this form via email soon!■ Set-up a monthly pledge & receive a free
gift
● All donations directly support our school and you will also get to see EXACTLY how your donations are being used!

appropriate school clothing is allowed

PTA offers a free uniform exchange at the beginning of the year.
• Snack happens twice a day, once in the morning and once in the afternoon. • Snack should be something healthy that will give your child energy and focus
throughout the day.• Snack can be brought from home or you can donate boxes of snack to the
classroom (goldfish, pretzels, fruit bars, etc.)• Snack should be something small.
Rest Time• Students will have a quiet time in the beginning of the year for about 15
minutes. As they adjust to Kindergarten and the long day, this time will go away.
• This will be adjusted per class needs.
Lunch• Students can bring lunch from home or order school lunch
from the cafeteria. School lunch ordering happens a week ahead of time and is done online.
• You can eat with your child but you must always sign in at the office and get a visitor’s pass first.
• Please only send containers that students can open independently. This is a great skill to practice over the summer!
• Please bring a full water bottle everyday that is easy to open, refill, and ideally leakproof.
Life SkillsIt is helpful if students come in with a few life skills such as:
• Being able to share and take turns• Solve problems using their words, “I Messages” • Use the bathroom independently• Button and unbutton shorts, pants, jackets independently,
