Moving Day !!!Here’s a picture of the kitchen when we were
just moving in. The black strip on the left wall
is a pot rack which we took
down immediately.

Moving Day !!!Here’s a picture of the kitchen when we were
just moving in. One problem we saw right
away is that the Refrigerator is in the way of
the door. Two Words… “New

Here’s the OLD KitchenHere’s the OLD KitchenHere’s a wide angle
of the Kitchen.
The ceiling is 9 ft tall.
The soffit is 2 ft. Lots of
wasted space. The fridge is too small and
the stove is too large for
today’s appliances.

This is a wall that we decided to tear out to open up the kitchen. It proved to be a challenge because we discovered that it was a load
bearing wall. The reason we were surprised is
because it is not supported in the floor. It sits between two floor joists. How did it
survive 80 years?

You can see that once the wall was down it
really opened up the room.

This is the East wall
before we got the support
beam up but after we took down the slat and plaster to see what we had to work
with.Left mouse click to advance slide.
Once again here’s the wall prior to opening up the room.
You can see that it takes away a good 3x5 space from the kitchen and to enter from the bathroom on the left, you
need to snake around the corners. I think it’s a stupid
layout.

WOW! What a difference taking down that wall
made. The next step will be to
expand the bathroom
because it is way too small.

Here’s a picture of the East wall After the
support beam has been put in. The white colored
stuff to the left of the support beam is foam
used to seal up cracks.

Obviously the wall is not finished. Wires still need to be secured, etc. but at
least it’s all open now.

area.

Here’s a picture I took to show
where the wall used to sit. It
actually used to sit between two floor joists with only a one-inch
plywood floor for support.
