¿Cómo no podemos honrar a nuestra madre y padre? It may seem a daunting task to try and change the culture in this country, but no task is too big for God.

In the first reading this week we hear the story of God

delivering the Commandments to Moses. A friend once

told me that every sin is a sin against the first command-

ment. If we truly live up to all that the first Command-

ment says and take it heart as a way to live our lives we

cannot break any of the other commandments. If “You

shall have no other gods before you” how can we take

the Lord’s name in vain? How can we not keep Holy the

Sabbath? How can we not honor our mother and fa-

ther? How can we kill, commit adultery, steal, lie about

others, be envious of our neighbor’s wife or proper-

ty? We are all born with a desire to seek God, the prob-

lem is that there is a lot of media and cultural pressure to

fill that desire with “false gods.” All these false gods

lead to an epidemic of immorality. As we start to live

the commandments more fully that tendency will spread

to our families, our communities and our nation. It may

seem a daunting task to try and change the culture in this

country, but no task is too big for God.
