What Parents Can Do:

Check Homework Agenda each night Establish a consistent homework time Make sure your child has adequate sleep and a good breakfast Encourage independence and responsibility Have realistic expectations and give a lot of

positive feedback and praise

Please contact your child’s teacher if you have a question or concern before a problem escalates!

If you need to pull your child from class for an appointment, please allow plenty of time for your child to transition.

Accountability-Parent Signatures Sign each night-please do not sign ahead Agendas will come home every night and on the

weekend Before signing, discuss and confirm that all homework

is finished All assignments will be recorded, students will put a

check by any assignments they have completed at school

If there is no homework other than routine reading minutes, students should write NO HOMEWORK

Please also check reading minutes for accuracy

Math Curriculum- G0 MATHThis program design permits instruction in each grade to focus on fewer concepts and skills in greater depth, while simultaneously building a foundation for the next grade.

Big Picture:-Whole Number Operations: place value, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and fractions

-Geometry: geometric shapes and properties of two dimentional

-Measurement: length, width, volume, time, and temperature, area and perimeter

-Data and Probability: represent and interpret data.

Ongoing Math Practice

Math Homework will be assigned periodically.– Objectives will serve as a review of current/past

concepts– Word problems, games, technology, practice, writing

about math– Vocabulary Reinforcement

MATH FACTS-students will be tested on math facts throughout the school year and are expected to be practicing those at home, beginning with addition. Timed tests will begin next week and students will have two minutes to complete 25 basic addition problems up to the sum of twenty.

Technology• Tech Boot Camp

– Digital Citizenship/Footprints– Classroom Expectations– Google Docs(Optional- send in a mouse)

Students will be using a variety of websites to support learning.

Field Trips & Activities Terryberry, IMAX, Kent County Recycling Center, visit from the

Kalamazoo Nature Center Staff for science connections, EGR Library Genre Tour, Michigan Celebration, and more.

The cost for trips and activities will be $25 for the year, if you have not sent that in, please do so tonight or send in to your child’s teacher by September 30.

Checks may be made out to Breton Downs Elementary

If you need assistance with this funding, please don’t hesitate to talk with your child’s teacher
