ANNOUNCEMENTS We regret to inform you of the passing of our member Semyon (Shimon) Shekhtman. Funeral services were held on Monday, and shiva has concluded. May the memory of the righteous be a blessing and a comfort to us all. Amen. Spring Cleaning: Please note that items left at ASBI on the coat racks and in the Lost & Found will soon be donated. Thank you to this week’s volunteer readers, David Dror, David Fain, and Aaron Sarna.
Worth Remembering—An Occasional Series In an earlier time, our shul membership included people who sold physical objects for a living, at retail, from stores. Mrs. Sarah Serota, whose yahrzeit is on 18 Nisan, owned a fish market with her husband Sam, on the east side of Broadway a few yards north of Briar. Mr. David Nonberg, whose yahrzeit is on 20 Nisan, owned one of the last three independent kosher butcher shops in Lakeview, also on the east side of Broadway, just south of Surf. Before we made our livings from services rather than goods, we had the pleasure of buying things from our own members, who were our colleagues at Anshe Sholom, and our friends.
IMPORTANT KIDDUSH NOTICE Renovation work has begun at the JCC to improve the large gym. Starting this week, and for the next several weeks while work is being done, we will be having Kiddush in the ASBI Social Hall.
PLEASE NOTE: This means that we will have less food available at Kiddush, less space, and fewer tables and chairs. If you choose to take food up to the parking lot, please clean up after yourself and your family.
We appreciate your cooperation and patience and we look forward to an improved Kiddush experience at the JCC when the work is completed!

UPCOMING EVENTS
Israel Movie Night "It Is No Dream: The Life of Theodor Herzl" (2012)
Monday, May 20, 7:00 PM, 97 minutes "It Is No Dream" examines the life and times of Theodor Herzl, who was responsible for creating the political movement that led in 1948 to the founding of the Jewish state. Theodor Herzl--an assimilated Jew, a successful playwright and author, born into a traditional but mostly non-religious family in Budapest in 1860—was changed by the trial of Captain Alfred Dreyfus in Paris, which he covered as a journalist in 1895. Herzl became convinced that the only answer to the anti-Semitism that was spreading across Europe was the establishment of a Jewish state in Palestine, the Biblical homeland of the Jewish people. He wrote a political treatise entitled “Der Judenstaat” or “The Jewish State” that became an international bestseller, laying out his ideas for creating a new Jewish state. "It Is No Dream" follows Herzl as he meets with kings, prime ministers, ambassadors, a sultan, a pope and government ministers in his quest to create a Jewish homeland in Palestine. Narrated by Academy Award winner Ben Kingsley and starring Academy Award Winner Christoph Waltz as the voice of Theodor Herzl, "It Is No Dream" features rare archival film footage of the period and never before seen stills and artifacts.
Sponsored by the Israel Committee. Pizza, pop, popcorn, and chips will be served.
