The site consists of the old Hanseatic wharf and buildings, and is one of the best known urban areas from the Middle Ages in all of Norway. In 1360, the German Hanseatic League set up one of its import and export offi ces at Bryggen. It dominated trade for almost 400 years.

To stroll through Bryggen’s narrow alleyways and over hanging galleries is to step back into the mists of time and a bygone era. Today there are more than 20 attractions in the Bryggen area.Bergen is also a UNESCO City of Gastronomy.

At Bryggen you can fi nd several traditional historical restaurants with rich menus featuring seafood, fi sh and meat based on the traditional western Norwegian cuisine.

Meet no later than 19.10 in front of Bryggen for a welcome session and we will guide you to your restaurant for a lively meal. After a two-course dinner you will be escorted to the heart of Bryggen for the After-Party and dessert served by our chefs from the 7 restaurants.

The Gateway to the Fjords of Norway

Bergen Tourist Board

The medieval walk starts in Bryggens Museum. In the museum’s archaeological exhibition you can see the remains of the oldest tenements of Bergen. The exhibition focuses on archaeological fi nds from Bryggen, and presents international trade from the city’s earliest history. The walk continues to St Mary’s Church nearby. St Mary’s Church is one of the oldest buildings in Bergen. The church was built in the mid-1100s, and was from the late medieval period a German church in Bergen. It has the richest church art of all medieval churches in Norway. This tour will end at Bergenhus Fortress. The oldest buildings here were part of the fi rst Norwegian medieval castle in Norway, and there will be a visit to Rosenkrantz tower. The oldest part of the tower served as a residence for the kings Magnus Håkonsson and Eirik Magnusson until 1299. In the 1560s, the tower was incorporated into the new Renaissance castle built by Governor Erik Rosenkrantz, but it now stands alone. It includes a dungeon from the 1500s.Snack and beverages during the trip.

The silver factory Arven is a national manufacturer of silver – and gold products, and has since 1868 delivered quality craftsmanship. Arven is situated in a historic

setting, between St Mary’s Church and Bergenhus Fortress. The silver factory has for nearly 150 years had its production in the centre of Bergen, and from 2016 they have opened the doors of their traditional workshop to the public.

Experience Edvard Grieg Museum, Troldhaugen – the home of composer Edvard Grieg for 22 years. He composed many of his best-known works in the little garden cabin.

Troldhaugen in Bergen, the home of composer Edvard Grieg, is now a living museum comprising an exhibition centre with shop and cafe, concert hall, composers’ cabin and Grieg’s villa dating from 1885.

Set in the Grieg Museum grounds next to Grieg’s villa, a concert in Troldsalen is an experience not to be missed. The Troldsalen concert hall seats 189, and is designed with chamber music in mind. In the concert hall, you can listen to Edvard Grieg’s music while enjoying the very scenery that once inspired him in his work. Through the large window that adorns the stage, you can see the little cabin where many of Grieg’s pieces were composed. The concert hall was renovated in the spring of 2012, and today the quality of the light, sound and vista is better than ever before.

Guiding on the bus to and from Troldhaugen, and a guided tour of Grieg’s villa and the museum.

Snack and beverage during the trip.

It is situated right by the sea on a small island with spectacular views of the fjord, mountains, skerries, and passing boats and ships.

Inspired by the weather of the day, Cornelius serves its famous Meteorological Menu of exquisite seafood and trimmings, prepared using innovative culinary techniques and with a genuine passion for seafood.

Shellfish talk:On this tour we will meet the shellfish legend Alf Roald (“Bergen’s Oyster Dundee”) and enjoy his famous shellfish talk, which is a fun and educational start to any event. During the talk, you will taste various delicacies and drinks will be served. His talk describes how Cornelius started, and some breakneck business dealings. Bergen Highlights is a guided tour by bus. In this tour we have included a visit to two of our most popular museums. This tour offers an initial overview of the history and structure of the city. It takes you through the charming streets of Bergen, focusing on the downtown area surrounding the bustling harbour, the historical Bryggen (UNESCO World Heritage City), the beautiful city park and adjoining museums.

On this trip, we visit Norway’s newest and fi nest exhibitions about life along the coast and at sea. Norwegian Fisheries Museum is located in authentic wharfside warehouses as old as Bryggen. Explore the captivating, interactive exhibitions and learn about the treasures of the ocean, our shared marine resources and about how Norwegian fi shermen have lived throughout the ages.

The open-air Old Bergen Museum has 55 wooden houses from the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries, most of which originate from Bergen city centre. A visit to Old Bergen provides some answers as well as a breath of nostalgia. Actors make the stories come to life. What could life in

Bergen have been like 150 years ago? What did it look like? What did people talk about? In beautiful surroundings you can meet both landlords and servants from times past.

Snacks from Bergen and a beverage during the trip.

BERGEN – EASY TO GET TO

You can fl y to Bergen direct from more than 35 central locations in Europe, and from most cities in Norway. From the biggest transport hubs, such as Amsterdam, Copenhagen, London, Helsinki, Stockholm, Reykjavik

and Oslo, you only need to change plane once to get here from other more distant cities.

From the Continent you can sail to Bergen from Denmark every day with modern cruise and car ferries. Modern express boats and bus routes with panoramic views take you into the famous Norwegian fjords and along the coast – which are included on UNESCO’s World Heritage List of nature attractions. Bergen is the

most popular cruise destination in Norway and is also the turn-around port for the world famous Hurtigruten – which sails all the way up to the Russian border in the north.

The spectacular train journey between Oslo and Bergen should not be missed, nor Norway in a nutshell© the No 1 round trip in Norway.
