    1st Sunday of Lent

    March 5, 2017

    Love the Church.

Dear friends of Jesus and Saint Brendan,

Today our Catechumens for the Easter Sacraments: John Chan & Maribel Cardoso will be sent to the Rite of Election with Bishop DiMarzio. They will be called forward by the Bishop and chosen for the Sacraments of Initiation at the Easter Vigil. We also have 13 candidates who are preparing for the completion of the Sacraments of Initiation at the Vigil. We also send them to be called by the Bishop to the Easter Sacraments. Please pray for them along with the 6 children who will be baptized at the vigil. Lent is a time of great grace for them and for all of us as we prepare for the celebration of Easter and the Renewal of our Baptismal Prom-ises. Today we welcome Sister Ave Clark who will share a Lenten reflection with us at Our Lenten Soup Lunch after the 11:00 Mass. I hope everyone who is available will sign up for an hour of adoration during the weeks of Lent. Adoration is a wonderful source of healing and of great graces. Please make time to spend with Jesus... He has something to say and something to give you... COME AND SEE! Lenten Materials and Mite Boxes are available in the lobby. Please take them and share them with your family and friends... Mite boxes can be returned on Good Friday. The proceeds will got to our new Youth Ministry Program. We have signed a contract with DeSales Me-dia for a new and very interactive Parish Web-site. Brian Neuner will serve as our Webmas-ter. The site is currently under construction... We will keep you posted... You will be able to register for the parish online, e-mail the staff, eventually register for online giving, and keep up with current events in the parish and dio-cese. There will be links to our Facebook page, the Tablet, Una Voz, and NET TV. We hope to sign a contract within a week or so for the removal of the parking lot fence and the installation of a new 5 foot fence with rolling gates and a pedestrian gate on the East 12th Street side. More details to come! Let's keep Lent faithfully, prayerfully, joyfully... time for adoration, stations, confessions, daily Mass, fasting, and sacrifice, with plenty of time for SILENCE...

    Peace and blessings, Father Peter

Wednesday, Good Friday and all the Fridays of Lent by all Catholics 14 years of age and older.

Fasting is observed on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday by all those between the ages of 18 and

5th) and Trinity Sunday (June 11th).

BETHLEHEM CHRISTIAN FAMILIES On the weekend of April 1st & 2nd, our brothers and sisters representing the Bethlehem Christian

Families; a non profit organization through Land of Peace will be with us speaking about the Christian

situation in the Holy Land and selling Crucifixes, reli-gious art work, and rosaries-all made of olive wood which is native to Israel and Bethlehem. Since tour-

ism has greatly depleted, Christian families in the holy land, who depend on tourists, have been greatly affected. The goal of this mission is to build a Char-

itable Hospital in Bethlehem and help poor and needy families in Bethlehem and Jerusalem. Sale of these goods will help them very much and also give you the opportunity to have “something” authentic from the holy land. Please browse and buy some articles. It is for a good cause and also a help to your personal devotion. For more info Website:

2017 ANNUAL CATHOLIC APPEAL As we move closer to the beginning of the Lenten season, I’m well aware of all those struggling in the parish to be faithful to their commitment to the Generations of Faith

campaign. As we end the first year of the redemption peri-od, the bishop asks us once again to participate as best we can in the Annual Catholic Appeal. Many of you will

receive information in the mail from the diocese. Materials will be available in the church. We ask you to do the best

you can according to your ability and your conscience.

The Diocese of Brooklyn strives to be responsive to the needs of the 1.5 million Catholics and our larger communi-ty by bringing the Lord’s charity and love to our family of faith. The Annual Catholic Appeal provides us with an op-portunity to step forward in our faith and radiate Christ’s

light in our communities in Brooklyn and Queens by bring-ing the Gospel to the aged, the infirm, the disadvantaged,

    & those in need.
