Dear Parish family,

Happy 110th Anniversary! What a journey from 1907 to 2017... from 1456 East 10th Street, our first chapel and rectory to the beautiful parish campus on Ave O between East 12th and 13th Streets. How many priests and religious (the Sisters of Saint Joseph) have served the parish community over the years? Think of all the activity in God's name... we are a parish that serves, that strives to meet the spiritual needs of an ever changing community, all of us immigrants on our way home, making the journey together! Let's pray that like our patron, Brendan the Naviga-tor, we continue to search for His will in our lives and as Joyful Missionary Disciples invite all of our brothers and sisters home to church, home to the Holy Trinity. May we grow together in faith, hope, love, service! and worship of our Loving God! October 1st is the Feast of St. Therese of Lisieux, the Little Flower. As we honor her on her Feast Day, let's pray for a shower of roses on our parish family. October 2nd is the Feast of the Guardian Angels, we have said the Guardian Angel Prayer with our children and young people in Sunday School and we ask the angels to watch over us as we extend the hours of Eucharistic Adoration on Monday. Please sign up for at least an hour of adoration each week... bring your family and friends... Jesus is waiting!!! After the 11:00 Mass we will bless the new signs in front of the church and dedicate the Angel Statue on the rectory lawn in honor of all parents mourning the death of a child. Our ARISE groups will begin meeting on October 10th! If you would like to be part of one of these faith sharing groups, pickup a registration card in the lobby or contact the rectory. We had another Administrative and Financial audit during the week! We need to increase our regular income and we have to ask for everyone's support. As I mentioned in the first part of the letter, we are a parish that serves and so we are a parish with needs... We have no where to go but to you to ask for your support of our parish ministries, of your parish family... Give thanks to God through your weekly offering... PLEASE!!! Have a blessed week... Bring someone to church next Sunday!

Peace and blessings, Father Peter As for me and my house, we will

serve the Lord! Joshua 24.15

A VOCATION PRAYER Gracious and loving God, help the men and women of our parish hear

the call to serve in the Diocese of Brooklyn.

Our needs are great and our people thirst for Your presence.

Open our hearts, raise up faithful servants of the Gospel, dedicated, holy priests,

sisters, brothers and deacons, who will spend themselves for Your people and their needs.

Bless those who are serving now with courage and perseverance.

Grant that many will be inspired by their example and faith.

We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

We will celebrate the Blessing of Animals in honor of St. Francis of Assisi on Wednesday, October 4 at 6:30 pm in the Courtyard. Bring

your pets for this special blessing. Fr. Peter and TessE will be waiting!

English Baptisms are celebrated every second Saturday of the month. Anyone needing to arrange an English Baptism please call Fr. Peter or Deacon Bob at the rectory.

As the redemption period of Generations of Faith continues we would like to thank all those who have been

faithful in fulfilling their pledges. We recently re-ceived a disbursement check of $17,159.50 which partially reimburses the parish for the money spent in repairing the front steps. We have also been in-formed that there is a fairly significant group of peo-ple who have not kept up with their pledges. The income from the campaign is critical to the financial health of both the diocese and the parish. Please do the best you can to fulfill your commitment.

Make a Holy Hour.

ADORATION OF THE BLESSED SACRAMENT

We are always in need of more volunteers to spend time with Jesus during Eucharistic Adoration each week. We invite all adorers to sign the adoration book inside the Chapel entrance. If every-

one would come for even one half hour of adoration each week we would be able to fill our schedule. Beginning on Monday, October 2, the Feast of the Guardian Angels, we will have adoration Monday through Saturday from 9-4 pm and Fridays till 7 pm. We believe that Eucharistic Adoration will transform the parish. Come and spend quality time with Jesus. Experience his healing presence. Remember, Jesus is waiting. Miracles happen.

Saint Brendan Vocation Committee! Bishop DiMarzio has proclaimed a special YEAR OF VOCATIONS beginning on August 4th, the Feast of Saint John Vianney.

In preparation for this special year, we need to form a Parish Vocations Committee to pray for, promote, identi-fy, and encourage young people to consider a vocation to the priesthood, diaconate, or consecrated life. We need to form a team willing to encourage daily prayer for vocations, make materials available and encourage our young people to ask themselves if they think God might be calling them to a life of service in the church. God never stops calling, we need to learn to listen…

Throughout the Year of Vocations, our statue of St. John Vianney will be in the chapel as a reminder for all of us to pray for an increase in vocations to the priest-hood, diaconate and the religious life for our diocese and from our parish.

Beginning Sunday, October 1, we will have two icons of St. John Vianney, the patron saint of parish priests at Mass. Each week we will invite someone from the Spanish speaking community and English speaking community to take the icons home and promise to pray for vocations with their family and friends throughout the week. The icons will be returned to the rectory the following Saturday. There will be a sign up sheet in the rectory if you would like to participate in this beautiful prayer for vocations.

ATTENTION ALL TEENS!

We invite all our teens in 8th grade and High School to join us for the

5 pm Mass each Saturday. After Mass we will have a meeting with the Youth Group

in the Clonfert Center . We hope to see everyone there. Please contact Alex in the

rectory if you have any questions.

Teens, check this out: WWW.LIFETEEN.COM

www. invisiblemonastery.com Our Goal is Continuous Prayer for Vocations.

Invisible Monastery is a free web site that helps organize prayer for vocations. Our goal is to attract enough members to pray for vocations 24 hours a day in every diocese. Members of Invisible Monastery: • Pledge to pray daily or weekly for vocations • Choose their type of prayer-Mass intention, rosary, private prayer, etc. • Renew their pledge annually • Receive a quarterly e-newsletter with prayers,

resources, and ideas for promoting vocations • May receive occasional communication from the diocesan Vocation Director with prayer requests or other information.

DEACON BOB COSGROVE Every Monday, Deacon Bob will be available in the Rectory Office from 6-8 pm. If you would like to meet with the Deacon please call the Rectory Office at 718-339-2828 to schedule an appointment.
