THE RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION FOR ADULTS
Do you, or someone you know, feel a calling to grow closer to God through His Church? Saint Gregory the Great welcomes new members and tries to provide appropriate spiritual formation according to each person’s needs. Some who come to us have had little or no affiliation with the Christian faith; others have been baptized and have been active members in other Christian traditions. For more information, please contact:
Deacon Ron at [email protected], or 858 653-3582. http://stgg.org/home/serve/christian-formation/rcia

In today’s Gospel from the Book of Matthew, we hear the remarkable story of Jesus walking on the Sea of Galilee. St. Peter reflects his faith in the Lord when he says, “Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the water.” Jesus says simply, “Come.” We do not know if Peter stepped into the water or jumped and it does not matter. His faith and trust in the Lord allows Peter, too, to begin to walk on the water. Clearly when Peter’s focus is on Christ, he is able to accomplish this.
However, when Peter loses his focus and begins to observe and think about the storm raging around him, he begins to sink. To Peter’s credit he knows exactly to Whom to turn in that situation. “Lord, save me.” We may often find ourselves in similar circumstances. Peter knew exactly Who to call out to at the moment of crisis. We may do the same.
God truly loves us; we are His children. Listen to the Word of the Lord in Psalm 91: “Because he loves Me,” says the Lord, “I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges My Name. He will call on me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him and honor him. I will satisfy him and show him My Salvation.”
St. Francis de Sales wrote, “Either God will shield you from suffering, or He will give you unfailing strength to bear it. Be at peace then; put aside all anxious thoughts and imaginations.”

Join fellow Catholics in a nationwide prayer campaign called the “Novena for Our Nation” in prayer to God to heal our Country and return it to holiness. Everyone is encouraged to join ranks as, united, we pray the very powerful 54-Day Rosary Novena from the Feast of the Assumption on August 15 to the Feast of
Our Lady of the Rosary on October 7. We continue to live in peace-less times with laws and court rulings in conflict with God’s laws; especially the disregard for the rights of the unborn, elderly and weak in our society, and the attacks on marriage and family values. Society and many levels of government continue to demonstrate intolerance towards biblically-based religious belief and practice. In conflict with First Amendment constitutional rights, persecution of traditional religious expression has reached historically-high levels. We are in a Spiritual Battle. In this centennial year of the apparitions of Our Lady at Fatima, we are called upon to help turn our Country back towards God. We will accomplish that through prayer — prayer that can change hearts, change families, change our communities, and change our Country. There is no stronger weapon in this Spiritual Battle than the Rosary.
• Pray for America with the faithful from across the Country • Sign up to receive daily reflections straight to your email • Attend the National Rosary Rally in Washington D.C. October 7.
