Cookies for Kairos On October 27- October 30, 2016, Jim Dvorsky, Dennis Grose and John O’Connell will go into Marion Correctional Institution as part of the 40th Kairos team, and you can be part of that team!First, you are invited to be part of a prayer vigil that will take place during the entire weekend. Sign-up forms will be available after mass for you to pick a time that is convenient for you to pray for the men whose hearts will be touched by the Holy Spirit. Never underestimate the impact that your prayers provide.Second, donate cookies. The team needs over 8000 dozen (yes, you read that correctly) cookies for the weekend, as every resident and staff member in the institution gets at least one dozen cookies. The cookies must be chocolate chip. Specialty cookies such as peanut butter cookies, brownies or “no-bakes” (e.g. marshmallow treats), are welcome, too. If you would simply like to donate money for cookie dough (“dough for dough”), the team will make sure your donation is turned into cookies. The last date to accept cookies is the morning of Thursday, October 20, 2016 at the St. Joseph Parish Activity Center.Third, cash donations or Green Agape, is also welcome. Kairos weekends and Kairos International is solely funded by generous people like you. Most of the funding goes toward meals and program materials for the weekend. Anything left over goes toward Kairos teams in other institutions that are not as well funded. Cash and checks made out to Kairos of Ohio will be accepted. In the memo line, please write “MCI #40”.Jim, Dennis and John will gladly accept your cookie or green agape donations, or you may drop them off at the St. Joseph parish office. Then the Lord will say to you, “whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.”

Many of us compartmentalize our Faith, we bring it out only when we attend Mass or when we attend a parish event. Being a good steward requires discipline and striving to put God first in everything, all the time. The next time you are at a neighborhood party, at work or out shopping, would your actions signal to others that you are a good and faithful servant of the Lord?

THis Week at St. Joe’s Youth Group:

Youth Group meets tonight! 7:008:30 at the PAC. Why does it matter if I go to Mass? Most of us have been bored at Mass at one time or another, maybe because we didn’t fully understand what was really going on and saw the Mass as irrelevant to our lives. Tonight, is about helping

us to discover that there is so much more to the Mass then meets the eye.

Every time I say the Mass, the universe is CHANGED. Fr. Mike Schmitz

the jubilee year of mercy

General Audience: ‘This is the Church’s mission, to be God’s

sacrament of mercy in every place and time’Dear Brothers and Sisters:

In our Gospel passage this morning, we are reminded of our call to be merciful even as our heavenly Father is merciful (cf. Lk 6:36). When we look at salvation history, we see that God’s whole revelation is his untiring love for humanity which culminates in Jesus’ death on the Cross. So great a love can be expressed only by God. Jesus’ call to humanity to be as merciful as the Father, however, is not a question of quantity. Instead it is a summons to be signs, channels and witnesses to his mercy. This is the Church’s mission, to be God’s sacrament of mercy in every place and time. As Christians, therefore, God asks us to be his witnesses, first by opening our own hearts to his divine mercy, and then by sharing that mercy towards all people, especially those who suffer. In this way, our works of mercy and charity will offer to the world a glimpse of the face of Christ. In the Gospel, Jesus explains that we especially show the Father’s mercy when we pardon one another, for we express the free gift of God’s love, and help one another on the way of conversion. Jesus invites us also to give freely, for all we have has been freely given to us by God, and we will receive only in the measure that we freely give to others. Merciful love is the only path, for by it we are able to make known the Father’s mercy that has no end. www.zenit.org
