Hawk Elementary School Mission Statement
The mission of Hawk Elementary is to create successful learners.
Math Curriculum A Bridges classroom features a combination of whole-group, small-
group, and independent activities. Lessons incorporate increasingly complex visual models - seeing, touching, working with manipulatives, and sketching ideas - to create pictures in the mind's eye that helps learners invent, understand, and remember mathematical ideas. By encouraging students to explore, test, and justify their reasoning, the curriculum facilitates the development of mathematical thinking for students of all learning styles.

Science Curriculum Hands-on Classrooms…
do not look like traditional classrooms. They are noisy, active, full of questions, and much discussion. Students are consulting with one another and teachers about their findings. There is conversation, observation, comparison and note taking occurring. Teachers roam the room, facilitating instructions and using well-formed questions to guide the learning that is occurring “live” in the classroom. Through the selective use of inquiry, students use materials, apply prior knowledge, and move forward in the lesson.
Social Studies Curriculum
Focuses on historical figures, map skills, chronological time, landforms, landmarks, economics, holidays, etc.
We integrate as much of our social studies into our other subject areas as possible
Café (Reading) CAFE is an acronym for Comprehension,
Accuracy, Fluency, and Expanding Vocabulary, and the system includes goal-setting with students in individual conferences, posting of goals on a whole-class board, developing small group instruction based on clusters of students with similar goals, and targeting whole-class instruction based on emerging student needs and fine tuning one on one conferring.
