UNLIKELY PARTNERS FOR PEACE
Ali Abu Awwad is a leading Palestinian activist teaching his countrymen nonviolent resistance, and reaching out to Jewish Israelis at the heart of the conflict. Ali has toured the world many times over, telling his riveting story of violent activism, imprisonment, bereavement and discovery of the path of nonviolent resistance—a story of personal transformation.
Sunday, October 9 | 7:00 PM | ASBI Congregation
Join Ali Abu Awwad and Rabbi Hanan Schlesinger as they share personal stories of their efforts to build a better future for their peoples. They come with no ready peace plans in hand, but only with the conviction that human understanding and trust will be the prerequisites for lasting justice, freedom, and peace on that tiny
sliver of land that they both call home.
Rabbi Hanan Schlesinger is an Orthodox rabbi and teacher and a passionate Zionist settler who has been profoundly transformed by his friendship with Ali. His understanding of the reality of the Middle East conflict and of Zionism has been utterly complicated by the parallel universe that Ali has introduced him to.

KOREN MACHZORIM IN 5777
ASBI is replacing our aging Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur machzorim with the machzorim that were published just a few years ago by Koren Publishers in Jerusalem, featuring the translation and commentary of former British chief rabbi, Rabbi Dr. Lord Jonathan Sacks. Koren's machzor enables English-speaking worshippers to connect in new ways to one of Judaism's oldest books. We invite you to honor your friends and loved ones and to support the spiritual life of the shul by dedicating one or more machzorim sets, or making a donation towards the purchase of machzorim.
Visit asbi.org/mahzor-5777.html to participate or learn more. This is a special opportunity to make an investment into the spiritual future of our congregation, as these new machzorim will be a tool for our prayers for years to come. Rosh Hashanah starts October 2, so be sure to make your dedication soon!
Volunteer with Maot Chitim As the holidays approach, Maot Chitim of Greater Chicago is looking for volunteers!
