ANDSyracuse University is committed to the provision of
safe and secure housing for South Campus residents.
In a setting such as the South Campus apartments,
where there exists numerous apartment buildings
spread over a wide area, and a high turnover of residents, it is important that students utilize
common guidelines related to sanitation and safety
procedures.
For your own safety, please
remember to lock your
apartment door, sliding glass
door (where available), and
security screen (where
available) whenever you leave
your apartment. It is good
practice to also lock your doors
while you are home.
For more information on
safety, please contact the
Department of Public Safety (publicsafety.syr.edu).
INSPECTIONSYour apartment will be inspected at least once
during the academic year. The inspection will take
approximately ten minutes and it is not necessary for
you to be home when the inspection is performed.
Two to three University staff members will enter
your apartment for the inspection between the hours
of 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. A copy of the completed
inspection report will be left for you.
While Health and Safety Inspections are not limited
to the following items, the following items are
prohibited in or around South Campus apartments:
a. Candles, incense, lava lamps, multi-
headed lamps, and halogen lamps. If
these items are found in your apartment
during the course of a Health and Safety

Inspection, they will be confiscated and
disposed of immediately.
b. Pools.
c. Tapestries hanging on the ceiling or
covering fire safety equipment. Tampering
with fire safety equipment will result in a
referral to the Office of Judicial Affairs.
d. Propane and charcoal grills. Propane tanks
and grills will be confiscated and not
returned.
e. Empty alcohol containers in apartments
occupied solely by students who are under
the legal drinking age of 21.
f. Standard household electrical extension
cords. Extension cords must be 12 gauge
wire with 3rd
prong ground.
g. Pets, other than fish living in ten gallon
fish tanks (see below for more details).
No remuneration will be provided to students for
property disposed of under the terms of these
policies.
POLICIESIn order for you to be more informed of the policies,
and aware of your rights and responsibilities for
living on South Campus, please review ORL
Departmental Standards and University Housing
Terms and Conditions. Refer to the following
website addresses:
housingmealplans.syr.edu/pdfs/formsanddownloads/
Termsandconditions.pdf (Terms and Conditions);www.syr.edu/currentstudents/studenthandbook/
(Student Handbook, including Residence Life
Policies); and, orl.syr.edu/current-students/south-
campus/apartments/health-safety-inspections.html
(Health and Safety Inspection details).
As a reminder, pets are not permitted in
University housing, other than fish living in ten
gallon fish tanks. Students found with pets in their
apartments will be asked to permanently remove the
pet from South Campus. Due to the significant
health, safety, and sanitary concerns caused by
animals living in SC apartments, students who
violate the University housing pet policy while
living on South Campus may be reassigned to a new
housing location or lose University housing.
In addition, please review the guest policy and
related registration procedures. In the interests of
the rights of roommates, suitemates, and other
residents, there are limits to the duration and
frequency of such visits. The full guest policy and
registration procedures can be found in the Student
Handbook. Overnight guests must be registered
online at the following website address:orl.syr.edu/current-students/guest-pass-
registration.html. In order to receive a parking pass
for your guest, Parking Services needs to verify that
you have registered your overnight guest through
this system.
C. P.S.C.O.P.E. is the South Campus Organization for
Programming Excellence and provides numerous
events for you throughout the year. In the past,
S.C.O.P.E. has brought students on South Campus
such events as a Multicultural Dinner, Glow Dance,
Ice Skating, and BBQs, just to name a few.

ANDAs an apartment resident, you will be provided with
a mailbox to receive mail and packages from the
United Stated Postal Service. Your check-in
information will contain your mailbox location.
Packages sent via a private vendor will be delivereddirectly to your apartment door. For the security of
your packages, we recommend that you request
“signature required” for all deliveries to prevent
delivery/shipping companies from leaving your
package at your door unattended.

THECampus bus service is coordinated
through Parking and Transit Services
and serviced by the Centro bus system.
On South Campus, bus service
throughout the apartments and Skyhalls
operates using a 7-minute schedule. As a
result, there should be a bus stopping at thebus stops about every 7 minutes during peak
class time usage. While this provides a bus service
that a convenient, with frequent pick-ups, it is
important to plan accordingly based on your
academic schedule/transportation needs and the
usage of other riders. It will be unlikely that you can
ride the closest bus to your class time as other
residents may be on the bus, causing it to be full.
The emergency contact number for bus related
issues is 315.443.4652, option #7 (Parking & TransitServices). Please report all incidents promptly via
phone or email ([email protected]) within 24 hours,
and state all pertinent information (i.e., date, time of
day and bus number if known) in order for incidents
to be resolved in a timely manner. Information
regarding road closures, detours, and current weather
conditions that have an impact on transportation will
be distributed through the Parking and Transit
Services’ Twitter Account:
@suparking
Passengers with visual impairments riding the Caz
Limo Nob Hill and James-East Genesee Street
routes are encouraged to tell the driver their
destination when boarding the bus. The driver can
then announce the stop to ensure that it is not
missed.
Passengers requiring the use of a wheelchair or other
mobility aids on Caz Limo Nob Hill and James-East
Genesee Street routes are encouraged to contact Caz
Limo in advance at .315.807.8109. Contacting
Caz Limo in advance will allow drivers theopportunity to ensure that space is
available in the areas designated for
passengers who use wheelchairs or other
mobility aids.
New for 2012 - 2013! A #444 Small
Road Bus will be active this year,
operating Monday – Thursday between
10 a.m. and 1 p.m. This addition should
help alleviate some of the congestionexperienced last year during peak academic
times. The #444 will operate on Small Road only,
traveling through Manley. In order to keep this new
route flexible for tweaking the schedule as needed, it
will not appear on any the official bus schedule.
However, Small Road residents should be aware of
the existence of this new route.
Another new for 2012 improvement! To help with
congestion on return trips from North Campus in theafternoons, an additional bus is being added to the
3:30 p.m. pick-up time from College Place.
Take some time to ride the bus at different times to
learn what works best for you and your schedule.

Residents are responsible for removing snow from
their own walkways. In addition, residents with
should remove snow from around their vehicles on a
regular basis to ensure that the University snow
removal plows can see clearly.
ANDSouth Campus is unique with free standing
apartment buildings and a lot of green space. Please
help to keep South Campus looking nice by
disposing of your trash and recyclables in the
appropriate dumpsters/containers outside of your
apartment building. Do not place trash bags,
garbage, food, or recyclables outside your
apartment. They will attract animals and pests,
causing a health and sanitation concern for you and
your neighbors. If trash and recyclables are not
disposed of properly, you and/or your apartment
building may be billed for this violation. Please
respect your environment and your living area.
Dispose of all items properly.
THOUGHTSPlease keep in mind that living on South Campus
is a privilege. Any violations of University
policies, Residence Life Departmental Standards,
Code of Student Conduct, or the Terms and
