CATHOLIC CHURCH AND SCHOOL Saint Pius X parish: www.spxcc.org school: www.stpiusxschoolcc.org Welcome to St. Pius X Parish June 15, 2014 Solemnity of the MOST HOLY TRINITY “To renew all things in Christ” Dear Friends, It is not at all unusual for mothers to be showered with appreciation when Mother’s Day rolls around, but Father’s Day often seems to be relegated to secondary status. The reasoning behind this phenomenon probably lies in the fact that we recognize the obvious and special love bond that mothers have with their children due to months of pregnancy and the pain of childbirth. We also are well aware of the many sacrifices and difficulties they endure while feeding, clothing, and raising their kids. For some reason, we tend to view fathers in a more passive role with regards to child-rearing. But isn’t it true that the appreciation we give to our fathers should be equally important? Few of us would deny that our mothers are often significantly more involved and much more interested in the raising of children. After all, mothers are traditionally the principle force in nourishing, nurturing, educating, forming, and correcting their children. Yet, the role of the father is just as crucial for the well-being of the child and should never be discounted. In fact, fathers are far more important to a child’s fundamental physical, emotional, and spiritual development than we might think. I believe that the role of the father is more crucial nowadays because we live in a world where so many children grow up in families where there is no reliable or loving father. If a father remains involved his family, his simple presence will have a tremendous impact on the overall health those children. A faithful father helps a child to be faithful and to persevere through difficulty. I read a statistic somewhere that came from a Columbia University study, in which it was discovered that if children have a troubled relationship with their Father, they are 68% more likely to be involved in the use of alcohol, drug use, and premarital sex. Another study says that fathers have double the influence of mothers in helping keep teens chaste before marriage. This is significant. When it comes to faith practice, we tend to think of mothers as having the most influence. This is true in many respects. Apparently, though, a father who practices his faith is far more influential in getting the children to follow suit than the mother. I often find that when a father excludes himself from faith practice, the children will too. I don’t know how many times I hear of children who are reluctant to come to Mass because the father doesn’t see the need to come. They 50 Years of Faith

Dear Friends,

It is not at all unusual for mothers to be showered with appreciation when Mother’s Day rolls around, but Father’s Day often seems to be relegated to secondary status.

Another study says that fathers have double the inf luence of mothers in helping keep teens chaste before marriage. This is significant.

When it comes to faith practice, we tend to think of mothers as having the most influence. This is true in many respects. Apparently, though, a father who practices his faith is far more influential in getting the children to follow suit than the mother. I often find that when a father excludes himself from faith practice, the children will too. are simply imitating the apathy of the father. When the father is actively involved in church, however, it is virtually certain that the children will be too.

Fatherhood is indispensable. The presence and love of a father for his wife teaches healthy male-female relations. This obviously requires great effort on the part of both parents to work things through with love. Mutuality in a relationship is important to a good marriage. This kind of loving relationship requires a great deal of sacrifice and selflessness. When a father shows his love and devotion to his wife, the children will experience emotional and spiritual security in their lives. Sons will learn what it is to be a man, and daughters will learn to expect respect from men.

Today, we want to recognize and show our respect for all of our faithful fathers. You model for us the love of God the Father who guides us, prompts us, and lovingly corrects us so that we mature in faith and grow in genuine love. Thank you for all the sacrifices you make for your children and we pray that you will be blessed abundantly on this special day.

God bless!

Organ RecitalIWA senior Hank Carrillo will present an organ recital tomorrow

evening, Monday, June 16th at 7:00 p.m. at St. Pius X Church. The recital is free and the public is cordially invited to attend.

Despedida for Fr. JosephThe sad news is that Fr. Joseph is being re-assigned to another

parish as of July 1st; however, the happy news is that we will be throwing him a big farewell on Saturday, June 21st, after the 5:30 p.m. Mass in the youth building. This will be a family affair, so please be sure that you mark your calendars. It will be a good time for all!

Rosary Garden Blessing and DedicationWe are pleased to announce the blessing and dedication of the

new Rosary and Prayer Garden at the St. Pius X Youth Center on Sunday, June 22, at 1:30 pm outside the Youth Center. The Rosary Garden was constructed by Nicholas Nye as an Eagle Scout project, and is dedicated to the sacredness of all life and to the protection of the unborn. It will serve as a place of prayer and solace for those seeking the intercession of the Blessed Mother. Please join us!

Fortnight for Freedom - Freedom to ServeReligious Freedom in our nation is being threatened more and

more every day. Efforts at curtailing religious groups from serving the needs of the poor in public are happening even as other threats to the free exercise of faith are occuring. Please join us in observing the Fortnight for Freedom from June 21st - July 4. The feast days of several saints who remained faithful in the face of political threats are celebrated during this time, including St. John Fisher, St. Thomas More, St. John the Baptist, SS. Peter and Paul, and the First Martyrs of Rome. We will start the Fortnight with Mass at 8:15 a.m. on Saturday, June 21st (The feast of Thomas More & John Fisher). We will have an all-day adoration on June 26th from 8:45 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., and a Movie Night on June 27th, featuring an appropriate topic. You will find sign-up sheets at the doors of the church for our all-day adoration. Please feel free to sign up for more than one hour of the day.

Blood DriveOur next Blood Drive is scheduled for Sunday, June

29th from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. All donors will receive a T-shirt, sonic coupon and a donor store points!

ExploreOn July 28 - Aug. 1 at Camp Zephyr (151 FM 3162,

Sandia, TX 78383). Staffed by priests and deacons, along with seminarians and others thinking about a vocation to the priesthood. Explore often helps a young man consider his own life. In a society that does not seem to understand how someone could accept a vocation to the priesthood, it helps him to meet others who would like to know more and also those who have taken a step by entering the seminary. For more information, please call the Office of Vocations at (361) 882-6191.
