ST. PIUS X, MIDDLETOWN
St. Pius Parish Mission Statement:
We, a community of faith, have come together to respond to God’s invitation to become holy by living the Gospel.
We strive to do this through our awareness of God’s presence, our sense of responsibility to one another,
and our response to needs within and beyond the parish of St. Pius X.
“Love one another, as I have loved you.” (John 13:34)
Stewardship of Treasure
All are asked to prayerfully consider tithing and return
10% of our income to the Lord (5% to the parish,
5% to God’s other charities) in gratitude. The
spiritual practice of tithing disposes us to place God
first in every area of our lives!
Week 19—November 3
2019 - 20 2018 - 19
Actual Sunday Offering $ 10,180 . $10,829.
Electronic Giving for the Week $3,146. $1,885.
$13.326. $12,714.
Stewardship of Treasure “May our Lord Jesus Christ himself
and God our Father, who has loved us and given us everlasng
encouragement and good hope through his grace, encourage
your hearts and strengthen them in every good deed and
word." (2 Thessalonians 2:1617) There are two important
lessons here. First, we are called to be generous with our
encouragement and hope. As God shows us mercy, we must be
merciful to others. Second, joy is contagious! The joy we
receive from doing good works not only strengthens us, it
encourages others as well. Share the joy of living your faith
whenever you can. Thanks to all who support our parish and its
good works by generously sharing your !me, talent and
treasure!
Tithing the Tithe Once again we are solici!ng requests for the
parish “Tithing the Tithe” for the months of August through
October. The following is the current mission statement:
“In overseeing the sharing of our financial blessings, the
Commi,ee aims to act “as good stewards of God’s varied
grace” (1 Peter 4:10). As good stewards, we seek to help
wherever we can to meet the needs of living in modern sociees,
including the first obligaon laid upon us in the Bible, “to care for
the Earth and all that dwell therein” (cf. Genesis 1:28 31). In
distribung the the, the Commi,ee will consider the nature and
urgency of the need, other current requests, the amount
requested and funds available to the Commi,ee, the likelihood
that the need will be addressed by other pares, and whether
the requesng person’s or organizaon’s values are compable
with the Church.”
We especially encourage parishioner input. Any requests or
recommenda!ons regarding the distribu!on of the !the
according to our mission statement should be submi'ed to
[email protected] or the parish office (860347
4441) by November 17 for considera!on at the November
Tithing Commi'ee mee!ng.

From the Pastor's Desk: 32

Sunday in Ordinary Time The readings this weekend center on the two important
concepts: faith in God and everlasng life. The first reading tells of the steadfastness of the seven brothers and their
mother, as they are condemned to death because of their faith. The leer to the Thessalonians connues the theme of
faithfulness but stresses that the strength necessary to do so comes from God’s grace alone. The Gospel also stresses
these two concepts when Jesus reminds us that the righteous person will enter into eternal life through resurrecon,
regardless of relaonships established while sll alive. Being a faithful Chrisan today o$en means acng in a counter
cultural manner, professing faith in what we know to be true, like life a$er death in the resurrecon, and accepng God as
our faith partner.
All Souls “Month” Although all Souls “Day” is November 2, we would like to connue to remember the deceased
during the month of November through to Advent. The readings of these last weeks of the Church’s liturgical year focus
on the “last things”: life, death and eternal life. We invite you to bring a small framed picture of a deceased loved one to
display on our church window sills during the month of November. Peace and all good things!
