Advanced Placement, CLEP, & Transfer Credits _______________________________________________________________________________________________________
Students who have obtained college level credit through transfer, advanced placement, international baccalaureate credit,
or dual enrollment programs should seek advisor counsel for recommendations on course scheduling as transcript delays
may result in improper enrollment.
__________________________________________________________________________________________________
AP & IB Credits http://www.uncc.edu/admissions/Freshman/apcredit.html
Students with a score of 3 or higher on the AP exam are
also eligible for college credit. During the summer,
students may not have access to AP scores immediately.
It is the Belk College of Business’s recommendation to
avoid registering for any course for which you may
receive AP credit. This would include LBST 2101,
2102; MATH 1120; STAT 1220, among others.
Consult with your Academic Advisor for additional
information.
CLEP Credit
http://www.uncc.edu/admissions/Transfer/clep.asp
Students have the option to obtain college credit through
the College-Level Examination Program (CLEP)
administered through Central Piedmont Community
College. CLEP credit must not violate the Residency
policy, which requires that students complete their last
30 hours of credit at UNC Charlotte. CLEP credit for
ACCT 2121, BLAW 3150, ECON 2101, ECON 2102,
MGMT 3140, and MKTG 3110 is available.
__________________________________________________________________________________________________
Transferring in an Associate’s Degree (AA or AS degree)
The Belk College recommends that you complete any remaining coursework for an Associate’s degree prior to enrolling at
UNC Charlotte. In many cases, students who attended a North Carolina community college may also qualify for a general
education exemption. If an exemption from general education has been awarded, a notation is placed on the transcript,
labeled INST 1111. Consult with your Academic Advisor for more information if you have questions about a general
education exemption.
Transfer Credit Evaluation
http://www.uncc.edu/admissions/transfer/tr_reqs.asp
Any student who has earned a grade of C or higher is eligible for transfer credit through the Office of Admissions. To
avoid duplicate credit, confirm transfer course equivalencies by viewing your unofficial transcript before enrolling in UNC
Charlotte courses. After the first week of classes, transfer students may appeal credit for business courses in the Business
Advising Center. Students must make an appointment and will be required to present supplemental materials, such as
course syllabi and course descriptions before a final decision may be considered.
Course Enrollment at Other Institutions
Students who wish to take courses at another institution in the future, must obtain permission through a Transient Study
Form, available in the Registrar’s Office, prior to enrolling in the course. Once enrolled at UNC Charlotte, Belk College
of Business students are prohibited from enrolling in required business courses at other institutions. This includes MATH
1120 and STAT 1220, along with the other Progression, Core, and Major requirements.

Tracking Your Academic Progress ____________________________________________________________________________________
Unofficial Transcript
An “unofficial transcript” is an informal tool students can use to track and maintain their academic progress while
attending UNC Charlotte. It is called “unofficial” because it is not signed, sealed, and university stamped for authenticity.
Students may request an official transcript through the Office of the Registrar for a fee.
The unofficial transcript allows students to monitor coursework completed at UNC Charlotte, semester by semester, as
well as view transfer, AP or IB credits. It also shows the cumulative GPA and semester GPA, total hours of credits earned
and major or minor program notations.
To view the unofficial transcript, complete the following steps:
1. Login to 49er Express with your NinerNET account information
2. Go to My 49er tab
3. Click box in upper-left corner for Banner Self Service
4. Click Student Services/Student Accounts
5. Click Student Records
6. Click Academic Transcript
Students are responsible for monitoring and tracking their academic progress. Consult with an Academic Advisor if you
have questions about your unofficial transcript.
__________________________________________________________________________________________________
CAPP: Curriculum Advising and Program Planning
“CAPP” is an online tool available for students to assist in tracking progress toward graduation requirements. A “CAPP”
evaluation can be generated and viewed at any time using 49er Express. Based on a student’s completed degree
requirements, the CAPP evaluation will show students a summary of their completed coursework and the requirements left
remaining to complete their program of study. Students should check their CAPP degree evaluation at the end of each
semester to verify graduation requirements.
Additional information regarding CAPP, including a student instructional manual, can be found online at:
http://registrar.uncc.edu/students/CAPP.htm.
_____________________________________________________________________________________________
Grading at UNC Charlotte
Instructors assign grades on the basis of their evaluation of the academic performance of each student enrolled in their
courses. At the end of the semester, grades are reported to the Office of the Registrar and are then made available to
students via the unofficial transcript on the 49er Express.
Letters are used the designate the quality of student academic achievement.
A Excellent
B Good
C Fair
D Passing
F Failing
---------------------------
IP In Progress
W Withdrawal *
I Incomplete
P Pass
N No credit
AU Audit
*A Withdrawal notation is not calculated into a student’s cumulative GPA. Withdrawing from a course (or courses) may
impact a student’s full-time standing with the University. It may also require that the student repeat the course at a later
date and may have bearing on future course enrollment if the withdrawn course is a prerequisite.
6
Understanding Your GPA
____________________________________________________________________________________
Grade Point Average (GPA)
Cumulative GPA (or overall GPA) includes all the grades earned for all courses completed at UNC Charlotte.
Semester GPA includes the grades that are earned in a particular semester and contribute to the cumulative GPA.
Based on the grade earned in a course, students accumulate Quality Points. Quality Points, or Grade Points, are
determined by multiplying the number of points assigned to each grade (see below) by the number of credit hours
associated with that course.
GPA Hours are the total number of credit hours for the semester (if calculating a semester average) or the total number
of credit hours at UNC Charlotte (if calculating a cumulative average). Both semester and cumulative GPA can be found
on the unofficial transcript.
The GPA for an undergraduate student is determined by adding all accumulated Quality Points together, and then dividing
by the total number of GPA Hours the student has attempted, excluding those for which the student received a grade of I,
IP, W, P, AU, or N. In calculating GPA, only the credits attempted at UNC Charlotte are included.
_____________________________________________________________________________________________
Formula for Calculating GPA
Step 1: For each course, calculate the total Quality Points by using the scale below. GPA Hours are the number of hours
a student is enrolled in for a term (for cumulative calculations, use the total hours earned at UNC Charlotte)
Quality Points x GPA Hours
A…………...4
B…………...3
C…………...2
D………..….1
F……………0
Example A: Susie is taking (1) 3 credit hour course and earns an “A”
3 x 4 = 12 points
Example B: Joe is taking (4) 3 credit hour courses and earns 2 “B”s and 2 “C”s
3 x 3 = 9 points
3 x 3 = 9 points
3 x 2 = 6 points
3 x 2 = 6 points
Total Quality Points= 30
Step 2: Divide the total Quality Points by total GPA Hours
GPA = Quality Points Earned / GPA Hours
Example A: At the end of the semester, Susie has 12 Quality Points and 3 GPA Hours
12/3 = 4.0 GPA
Example B: At the end of the semester, Joe has 30 Quality Points and 12 GPA Hours
30/12 = 2.5 GPA
Online GPA Calculator
Students can use the GPA Calculator to help determine their cumulative and semester GPA at:
http://www.registrar.uncc.edu/students/gpacalc.htm.

10
Maintaining Your Academic Standing ____________________________________________________________________________________
Requirements for Continued Enrollment
In order to remain actively enrolled at UNC Charlotte, students must be in “Good Standing” by maintaining a minimum
2.0 cumulative GPA. Falling below the minimum 2.0 GPA may result in probation or suspension from the University,
wherein students are no longer eligible to enroll in classes.
Unsatisfactory Grade Reports are issued at the professor’s discretion to students who have earned a grade of “D” or “F”
in a class at the mid-term point of the semester. These reports are available on a student’s 49er Express by clicking on the
Student Services tab and selecting Mid-term Grades. Mid-term grades are not official and are not posted to a student’s
transcript or academic history.
Semester Warning is an indicator for a student whose semester GPA is at or below a 2.0 GPA. The warning status is an
indication of potential academic problems and is communicated to the student, the Academic Advisor, and the Major
Department. Students on Semester Warning are advised to seek immediate counsel from an Academic Advisor to develop
an action plan before a student incurs Probation or Suspension (see below).
Academic Probation occurs when an undergraduate student earns less than a 2.0 cumulative GPA during a Fall or Spring
semester. Academic Probation is noted on the student’s transcript and grade report. Students must bring their cumulative
GPA up to a 2.0 in order to remove the probationary standing. Being on probation is a serious matter as students may be
suspended from the University if the overall grades are not improved. Students are encouraged to meet with an Academic
Advisor as soon as possible after receiving notification of probation to discuss strategies for improving academic
performance.
Academic Suspension terminates a student’s enrollment at the University. A student is suspended if he or she fails to
achieve good standing by the end of two successive semesters (excluding summer sessions). Note: A student with less
than a 2.0 cumulative GPA may avoid suspension by earning a minimum 2.3 semester GPA in the Fall or Spring.
_____________________________________________________________________________________________
Chancellor’s List recognizes undergraduate students with outstanding records of academic performance. A full-time
student must earn a GPA of at least 3.8 in 12 or more semester hours of credit graded A, B, or C, with no grade less than
C. Chancellor’s List designation appears on the student’s official transcript.
Dean’s List recognizes undergraduate students who earn a grade point average of at least 3.4, but not more than a 3.79 and
meet all other criteria as described by the Chancellor’s List. Dean’s List recognition appears on the official transcript.
Graduation with Distinction is an honor for graduating students who have earned a minimum of 48 semester hours at
UNC Charlotte and who meet the following criteria:
Cum Laude, “With Honor” – Graduating students who earn a GPA of 3.4 but less than 3.8
Magna Cum Laude, “With Great Honor” – Graduating students who earn a GPA of 3.8 but less than 4.0
Summa Cum Laude, “With Highest Honor” – Graduating students who earn a 4.0 GPA

Registration Information _______________________________________________________________________________________________________
Belk College of Business Closed Class Policy
Students will NOT be added to any closed classes.
Please do not contact the faculty or department Chairpersons to inquire about this policy. Here are three strategies to use
that will increase your chances of adding a course that is currently closed in the Belk College of Business.
1. Continue to monitor the online Schedule of Classes every day. Students will sometimes drop a class the closer it gets to
the First Day of Classes.
2. Check the online Schedule of Classes more frequently 3-5 days before the First Day of Classes. Students are paying
more attention to their schedules on these days because classes begin in the next few days.
3. Students that have not paid their tuition and fees by the appropriate due dates will be dropped from their classes. Check
the Academic Calendar for these two dates.
__________________________________________________________________________________________________
Student Responsibility & Course Enrollment
Students are responsible for the management of their course registrations. Through the registration process, students
accept academic and financial responsibility for the courses in which they enroll. These responsibilities include:
Following policies and procedures as outlined in the UNC Charlotte Undergraduate Catalog and other documents
relevant to their degree progression
Selecting courses appropriate for their academic goals, enrolling in these courses, verifying drop, add, withdrawal,
and grading transactions via the 49er Express
Abiding by University deadlines that pertain to course enrollment and graduation
Payment of tuition and fees by the specified deadline
__________________________________________________________________________________________________
Repeating Courses and Grade Replacement Policy
A student may receive credit for a course one time only, (including those for which transfer credit is awarded), unless the
course description specifies that it “may be repeated for credit.” However, students may repeat a course to improve their
GPA. In doing so, the student forfeits the earned hours for the repeated class. Repeated courses are included in the
student’s overall GPA computation and both attempts will be listed on the transcript. Note that Progression Courses, Core
Courses, and Major Courses may only be repeated one time to earn a minimum grade of “C.”
The Grade Replacement Policy
This policy allows students to choose up to two (2) courses (maximum of 8 hours), in which to replace the grade by
repeating the course in a different semester. Both grades are reflected on the transcript, however, the higher of the two
grades will be used in the calculation of the overall GPA. Students must file a completed “Grade Replacement Form” by
the specified deadline in the term in which the course is to be repeated. Below are some important policies about grade
replacement:
A repeated course may not be selected retroactively
Once the form is processed, the choice cannot be revoked by withdrawing from the class or University
A course repeated under the Grade Replacement Policy still counts as an “attempt” in the Belk College of Business

Registration Survival Guide __________________________________________________________________________________________________
Every term Belk College of Business students run into the same problems while trying to register for classes. Here is
some information about the most commonly reported issues.
“Department Approval Required” You will sometimes see this message that refers to the “Department”. What
department? Good question. It refers to the department offering the class, not the department under which your major is
declared. For example, if you see the message while registering for ENGL 2116, contact the English Department, not the
Belk College of Business (BCOB).
Solution: Contact the department offering the class.
“Advisor Approval Required” - Which advisor? Please do not contact your BCOB advisor. This message is usually seen
when students who are not in the Honors program or Business Learning Community try to register for a class that is
reserved for those participants. The advisor referenced is the Honors Advisor or Business Learning Community Advisor.
Solution: Select another section. You must already be in the Honors or Learning Community Programs prior to this term
in order to register for a reserved section.
“Major Restriction” This message indicates that you must be declared in the upper level major prior to being able to
register for this class. Permits are NOT granted to register early.
Solution: Declare your major as soon as you have met the requirements to do so.
“Pre-req Test Score Error” Indicates that some pre-requisite has not been met. This might be a particular class, or, it
may be that you do not have enough credit hours to register for the class. For example, you must have, at least, Sophomore
standing (30+ earned credit hours) to be able to register for ACCT 2121, ACCT 2122, ECON 2101, ECON2102.
Solution: Take more classes here at UNC Charlotte. If you are trying to register for Fall classes, you can register for
summer classes to reach the minimum number of hours first and then, register for those requiring more hours for the Fall.
But I Need To…
Get a permit for a closed class: Unfortunately, closed classes are closed. Monitor them and add them as space becomes
available. The only possible exception might be that it is the last class you need to graduate in that term.
Solution: See the Director of Undergraduate Student Affairs if you are a graduating senior in the next term. No other
exceptions are allowed.
Registration started today but I can’t register for any classes. What’s the problem?
Answer: It is probably too early for you to register. Registration opens for students on a graduated time table depending
on the number of credit hours earned. The more credit hours you have, the earlier you register.
Can I take MATH 1120, STAT 1220, INFO 2130, ACCT 2121, ACCT 2122, ECON 2101, ECON 2102 at another
institution after entering the BCOB?
Answer: No, all progression courses as well as all business courses must be completed at UNC Charlotte.
I am a junior but I can’t sign up for Core Business Classes; BLAW 3150, ECON 3125, FINN 3120, INFO 3130,
MGMT 3140, MGMT 3160, MKTG 3110, OPER 3100. Why?
Answer: There are prerequisites for these courses.
Non-Business Electives
These are any classes you ELECT to take outside of business. Please refer to the Undergraduate Catalog and select any
course that interests you for which you meet the pre-requisites.
Transfer Student Common Issues
I am currently taking (fill in the blank here) at (blank). Can I get permission to register for another class here at
UNC Charlotte since I’ll be transferring in the needed pre-requisite?
Answer: No. Transfer credits do not exist until they are posted on your transcript here at UNC Charlotte. You will be able
to register for progressive classes once your pre-requisite class has been posted.
Writing Intensive Classes
Business students are required to take two (2) Writing Intensive classes - one inside the major, MGMT 3160, and any
other outside the BCOB.
Solution: You can select the “Writing Intensive” attribute in the Course Summary section of Banner to list those courses.
