Week 5 has brought us 1,007 miles, or 2,014,922 steps, closer to our destination of Bethlehem. We continue our travels along the northern coast of Libya after passing through Morocco and Algeria. Here are a few facts about the countries we have experienced on our journey.

We are organizing a Novena to Our Lady of Guadalupe. During this Novena, parishioners will gather as a community, for nine consecutive days, to worship and make petitions to Our Lady. The Novena will begin December 4th and continue through December 12th. Each night the community will gather at someone’s home to pray. If you would like to host the Novena at your home, from 6:00-7:00 p.m. for one of the evenings, please fill out the sign-up sheet in the back of church. For more information, please contact the missionaries.

Anyone know the phrase, “I’ll believe it when I see it?” The Sadducees lived by that phrase, which created a huge problem when anyone wanted to talk about Heaven! And sometimes, aren't we like the Sadducees?
We don’t believe in spiritual truths because we try to align them with the truths of this world and so we have “earthly pictures” of what Heaven is...the Sadducees did not believe in immortality or angels, and their thought of Heaven is an “earthly picture,” so they challenge Jesus about Resurrection...
Jesus replies by stating that the Scriptures show there is Heaven (Exodus 3:6). He also shows that God is a living God who had a real relationship with people when they were living and when they passed from this world (Abraham, Isaac and Jacob and Psalm 73:23-24).
The ultimate proof for Resurrection in our faith is Jesus Christ in His victory over sin and death when He rose from the grave! Before raising Lazarus from the dead, Jesus states that He is the Resurrection and the life and whoever believes in Him shall never die (John 11:25)!
We also have the Holy Spirit to guide and reveal eternal truths of God’s love and life in our lives. We only have had a “taste” of Paradise, and we must have hope in the age to come!
We pray we never waver from believing in the Resurrection of Jesus and in the promise of everlasting life with God and our lives be guided by the Holy Spirit!
• Pray for Pope Francis and those who lead the Church, especially Bishop Brennan.
• Pray for those affected by natural disasters and acts of violence (Middle East, China and the U.S. families in Mexico).
• Pray also for the newly elected officials in last week’s election – may they promote the common good and the dignity of every person.
• Congratulations to those who have been elected to St. Mary’s Parish Council! We have much work to do to figure out the needs of our parish!
• Next Friday (November 15) is St. Mary Alumni Day – please welcome any alumni back “home” with open arms!
• Next weekend (November 16/17) is St. Vincent de Paul Society’s Clothing Drive at Corpus Christi and St. Ladislas – please be generous to those who are in need!
• This upcoming Monday is Veterans Day. We are grateful and inspired by those veterans who have given their lives for our country. Thank you!

Alguien sabe la frase, “Lo creeré cuando lo vea”? ¡Los saduceos vivieron con esa frase, que creó un gran problema cuando alguien quería hablar del cielo! Y a veces, ¿no somos como los saduceos?
No creemos en las verdades espirituales porque tratamos de alinearlas con las verdades de este mundo y por eso tenemos “imágenes terrenales” de lo que es el Cielo ... los saduceos no creían en la inmortalidad o los ángeles, y su pensamiento del Cielo es una “imagen terrenal”, por lo que desafían a Jesús sobre la resurrección ...
Jesús responde afirmando que las Escrituras muestran que hay Cielo (Éxodo 3: 6). También muestra que Dios es un Dios vivo que tuvo una relación real con las personas cuando vivían y cuando pasaban de este mundo (Abraham, Isaac y Jacob y Salmo 73: 23-24).
¡La prueba definitiva para la resurrección en nuestra fe es Jesucristo en su victoria sobre el pecado y la muerte cuando resucitó de la tumba! ¡Antes de resucitar a Lázaro de entre los muertos, Jesús declara que Él es la resurrección y la vida y que quien crea en Él nunca morirá (Juan 11:25)!
También tenemos el Espíritu Santo para guiar y revelar verdades eternas del amor y la vida de Dios en nuestras vidas. ¡Solo hemos probado el Paraíso, y debemos tener esperanza en la era venidera!
¡Oramos para que nunca dudemos de creer en la resurrección de Jesús y en la promesa de la vida eterna con Dios y que nuestras vidas sean guiadas por el Espíritu Santo!
• Ore por el Papa Francisco y aquellos que dirigen la Iglesia, especialmente el Obispo Brennan.
• Ore por los afectados por desastres naturales y actos de violencia (Medio Oriente, China y las familias de los Estados Unidos en México)
• Ore también por los funcionarios recién elegidos en las elecciones de la semana pasada: que puedan promover el bien común y la dignidad de cada persona
• ¡Felicitaciones a los que han sido elegidos para el Consejo Parroquial de Santa María! ¡Tenemos mucho trabajo por hacer para resolver las necesidades de nuestra parroquia!
• El próximo viernes (15 de noviembre) es el Día de los Antiguos Alumnos de Santa María. ¡Por favor, den la bienvenida a todos los alumnos de vuelta a “casa” con los brazos abiertos!
• El próximo fin de semana (16 y 17 de noviembre) es la campaña de ropa de la Sociedad de San Vicente de Paúl en Corpus Christi y St. Ladislas. ¡Sea generoso con los necesitados!
