WELCOME TO THE CELEBRATION OF THE

Welcome to the Celebration of the

of thanksgiving for Year 12

Wednesday 17 September 2014

Celebrant:Bill Stevens

Our Lady of the Rosary Church, The Entrance

Welcome:Mr Ashley Sadler, Acting Religious Education Co-ordinator

This graduation is a time for us to bid farewell to the College which for six years has been preparing us for this day.

It is a time that parents say: we have given you the tools to equip you to heed the call. It is your time to respond, be people of integrity, young men and women of conscience, to make the future your own.

It is a time for each one of us to act with justice, to love tenderly, to serve others and to walk humbly with God!

All please stand as we begin our celebration

Opening Procession:

Blessed Be Your Name

Blessed be your name in the land that is plentiful where the streams of abundance flow

Blessed be your name

Blessed be your name when I’m found in the desert place though I walk through the wilderness

Blessed be your name

Every blessing you pour out I’ll turn back to praise

When the darkness closes in lord still I will say blessed be the name of the Lord

Blessed be your name

Blessed be your glorious name

Blessed be your name when the suns shining down on me,

When the world’s all as it should be, blessed be your name

Every blessing you pour out I’ll turn back to praise.

When the darkness closes in lord, still I will say,

Blessed be the name of the lord, blessed be your name.

Blessed be the name of the lord, blessed be your glorious name (x2)

You give and take away, you give and take away, my heart will choose to stay, (x2)My heart will choose to say blessed be your name

Gathering Ritual

Each of the school year candles will be lit from the light of the Paschal candle.

Dominic Jones:On behalf of all of the Year 12 students, I welcome you all who have come to share this special mass with us. Each of you has helped us to reach this stage of life's journey. We gather to say thanks to God for all that has been. We gather to ask God for his gifts and graces we need as we set out on our next stage of life's journey.

Mrs Jones:On behalf of all of the parents here, I offer you the light of live. Carry this light of love with you as you venture out beyond your schooling life. When you find the light of love flickering, or threatened, remember that there will always be a light burning for you in our home.

Ms Sammut:On behalf of all of the teaching staff, I offer you the light of wisdom. Carry this light of wisdom out into the world. When faced with choices and decisions, may wisdom inspire and lead you to goodness and truth.

Megan Norton:On behalf of all of the students we leave behind, I offer you the light of memory. Carry the light of these memories with you. Remember those who remain behind as they will remember you.

Hollie Elliot:On behalf of our future, I offer the light of understanding. Carry this light of understanding to know that even though our time at school has come to an end, we still must prepare for the examinations to come.

Claudia Walters:For our final candle, I offer the light of acceptance. Carry this light with you on your life journey and come to an acceptance that thing eras in our life come to an end and that we must continue our journey forward. But just as we accept the need to change, we must remember the days of the past, as it is these days that made us who we are.

Father:In the name of the Father and of the Son

and of the Holy Spirit.

All:Amen

Father:The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the community of the Holy Spirit be with you all.

All:And with your spirit

Penitential Rite

Father:Coming together as God’s family, with confidence, Let us ask the Father’s forgiveness; for he is full of gentleness and compassion

Student:We are called to bring the friendship of Christ to others. For the times we have ridiculed the efforts of others through hurtful comments. Lord have mercy

All:Lord have mercy

Student:We are called to reach out to the marginalised in our midst. For the times we have ignored those around us and not shown the face of Christ to others. Christ have mercy

All:Christ have mercy

Student:We are called to bring peace to our world. For the times we have ignored the opportunities to spread peace in our school. Lord have mercy

All:Lord have mercy

Father:May almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us our sins and bring us to everlasting life.

All:Amen

Opening Prayer

Father:Let us pray

O God, you sanctify your whole Church in every people and nation;

pour out, we pray, the gifts of the Holy Spirit

across the face of the earth

and, with the divine grace that was at work

when the Gospel was first proclaimed,

fill now once more the hearts of believers.

Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,

who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,

one God, for ever and ever.

All:Amen

Liturgy of the Word – Dominic Jones (please be seated for the readings)

A reading from the letter of Paul to the Corinthians (1 Corinthians 12:31-13:13)

If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal.  If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing.  If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.  It does not dishonour others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.  For we know in part and we prophesy in part,  but when completeness comes, what is in part disappears. When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me.  For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.

And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.

This is the Word of the Lord

All:Thanks be to God

.

Responsorial Psalm

Student: April Hassell

Response:

“Lord you know all of my ways”

1. O Lord, you have searched me and known me. You know when I sit down and when I rise up. You discern my thoughts from far away. You search out my path, and know all of my ways. Response

2. Even before a word is on my tongue, O Lord, you know it completely. You hem me in, behind and before, and lay your hand upon me. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me. Response

3. For it was you who formed my inward parts; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; that I know very well. Response

4.My frame was not hidden from you when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth. Your eyes beheld my unformed substance. In your book were written all the days that were formed for me, when none of them as yet existed. Response

Gospel Procession (please stand to greet the Gospel as it passes your seat)

(Sung ) Alleluia, alleluia,

Lord, you know all things;

You know that I love you.

(Sung) Alleluia.

Gospel: Luke 7:31-35

Father:The Lord be with you

All:And with your spirit

Father:A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to Luke

All:Glory to you, O Lord

Jesus went on to say, “To what, then, can I compare the people of this generation? What are they like? They are like children sitting in the marketplace and calling out to each other:

“‘We played the pipe for you,    and you did not dance;we sang a dirge,    and you did not cry.’

For John the Baptist came neither eating bread nor drinking wine, and you say, ‘He has a demon.’ The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and you say, ‘Here is a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners.’ But wisdom is proved right by all her children.”

The Gospel of the Lord

All:Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ

Homily (please sit)

Prayers of the Faithful (please stand)

Father:As a community in thanksgiving, let us give voice in our prayers to our longings and needs.

Natasha MacSween:We pray for our parents and teachers. As we have struggled with the demands of life at this time in our lives, they have walked with us each step of our journey, guiding, comforting and calming all our fears. Be with them this day as they have been with us. Lord hear us

All:Lord hear our prayer

Mr Tobin:We pray for the members of this graduating class. Carry them gently through the path of the life that they choose we walk. Be with them in all the times of their lives. Watch over them and guide them, keeping them faithful to the ideals to which they have been called in their baptism. Lord hear us

All:Lord hear our prayer

Skye Bailey:We pray for your church and those who serve it willingly. We pray that from this group there may be people who will generously choose to serve you in a variety of ministries so that your kingdom will be known here on earth. Lord hear us

All:Lord hear our prayer

Emma MacKillop:Lord Jesus as we grow to know our world and understand its peoples’ and their problems, we pray that all of us, but especially, these young men and women, whom are farewelled today, may be a part of the solution towards peace between peoples and nations. Lord hear us

All:Lord hear our prayer

Johanna Pearsall:Lord Jesus, We ask that you give comfort and peace to all in our community who are not enjoying life in the way that you intended it. May they find comfort in the knowledge of your love for them? May they turn to you in their need? Heal all of our wounds so that we may be more effective in serving one another. Lord hear us

All:Lord hear our prayer

Father:God, our loving Father, you sent your Son Jesus Christ to bring us true freedom. We thank you for the abundant blessings you continue to give your people. Enlighten us with your Word and strengthen us with your Holy Spirit.

All:Amen

Father: It is truly right to give you thanks,

truly just to give you glory, Father most holy,

for you are the one God living and true,

existing before all ages and abiding for all eternity,

dwelling in unapproachable light;

yet you, who alone are good, the source of life,

have made all that is,

so that you might fill your creatures with blessings

and bring joy to many of them by the glory of your light.

And so, in your presence are countless hosts of Angels,

who serve you day and night

and, gazing upon the glory of your face,

glorify you without ceasing.

With them we, too, confess your name in exultation,

giving voice to every creature under heaven,

as we acclaim

I dream of being successful in everything I choose to do and to make my parents proud

I hope in my life I’d make a difference in the world, even if it is only to one person

I want to set positive goals & work hard to achieve them, and know I am living life to the fullest whilst being a good person and spreading joy

I wish to continue my goals in life, taking with me the skills & memories of high school at St Peter’s
