THIS AND THAT

Thursday is the feast of the Assumption of

the Blessed Virgin Mary into heaven. Masses

for the Holy Day of August 15th will take place

at 8:30 AM and at 7:00 PM. Mary is full of

grace, the Mother of God, yet one of us, a hu-

man being. Join us as we celebrate our belief

that at her death her body was assumed into

heaven.

Work on the new burner for the boiler has

continued intermittently this summer. The in-

stallers should finish up soon. This should

remedy the heating problems we experienced

last winter in church.

Since Fr. Luis went on his sabbatical year I

have been presiding at all of our Masses. I am

happy to let you know that beginning in Sep-

tember we will have an occasional visiting priest

to celebrate Mass with us. The Augustinians

stationed at St. Turibius will be with us periodi-

cally when available. You might see one of

them at any of our Masses including the Mass

in Spanish. This will begin next month.

Scripture scholars alert! Our Scripture Re-

flections group will reconvene on Wednesday,

August 21st immediately following the 8:30 AM

Mass. This weekly group meets to read and

discuss the Sunday readings. Occasionally, we

stray on to other related topics. You are invited

to become a scripture scholar too! Join us

Wednesday morning for faith sharing, a few

laughs, and good company. We would love to

have you join us.

This bulletin includes some information on

the Archdiocesan initiative on immigration re-

form. Please read it closely. I will offer a little

bit more about this issue next week.

May God bless us all,

Fr. Ted

Let us pray for the repose of

the soul of:

Each individual’s name will remain on this prayer list for four weeks. The hospitalized are automatically added to this list when we are aware of their hospitalization.

Justice for Immigrants

Comprehensive Immigration Reform

After many years—following the senate vote of 68-32

in favor of the comprehensive immigration bill, S.

744—we have finally reached the crucial moment for

which we’ve worked and prayed so fervently, and we

need the participation of your parish in the penultimate

phase. Attention has turned to the House of Represen-

tatives, and the critical process to pass and sign a bill

into law must be completed in the fall 2013 because of

the 2014 election year. Local representatives need to

hear the voices of people in their district beginning in

Congress’ August recess when representatives return

to their home office.

On July 9th over 100 parishioners from 32 parishes

(immigrant and native-born) and clergy and religious

leaders participated in a Congressional planning ses-

sion sponsored by our office. The outcome is a 40 day

campaign of Prayer, Fasting and Action that will begin

on Thursday, August 15, 2013 (Feast of the Assump-

tion and Our Lady of San Juan de los Lagos) and cul-

minate in an Archdiocesan Pilgrimage on Saturday,

October 12. (save the date… details to be announced.)
