WELCOME TO THEPLACE WHERE IT ALL BEGAN

In 1875, Ferdinand Porsche, future car engineer and designer of the Volkswagen, is born in this house. The family home is also the business premises of his father Anton Porsche, who runs a tinsmith company in the annexed workshop.

Ferdinand Porsche spends his childhood and teenage years here and trains as a tinsmith in the family company. It is here that he creates his first designs – and carries out his first experimentswith electricity, which lead to the electrification of the building. He lives in this house until his relocation to Vienna in 1893.

Ferdinand Porsche also returns here in 1902, when he presents his bride-to-be Aloisia Kaes to his parents. The young couple make the journey from Vienna to Maffersdorf in a Lohner-Porsche ‘Mixte’ with petrol/electric hybrid drive that Porsche designed himself.

TOUR OF THE EXHIBITION

The engineering spirit of Ferdinand Porsche is at the heart of the exhibition: starting from the place where it all began, it acknowledges the great engineer as a historical figure and traces how his outstanding achievements in the field of mobility have finally culminated in the design of the Volkswagen. Alongside this, the development of engineering as an art form is examined – a tradition that influenced Ferdinand Porsche’s lifework.

ENGINEERING SPIRITHistorical engineering milestones are presented in four display cases – from man’s first tool through to inventions for the world of tomorrow. There is a particular focus on the region of Bohemia with its rich heritage of technical pioneering spirit.

MOBILITYAround the central exhibit, the Lohner-Porsche, it is all about research, development and design studies for vehicles of tomorrow – accompanied by multimedia providing a glimpse into the future of mobility.

FAMILYThe large table in the family room is covered with memorabilia and stories, which recount the stages of Ferdinand Porsche’s life – Vratislavice, Vienna, Wiener Neustadt, Stuttgart, Wolfsburg, Gmünd and Zell am See. A wealth of photographs is the gateway to a multimedia presentation of his life and work.

WILLKOMMEN AM AUTHENTISCHEN ORT

In diesem Haus wird 1875 Ferdinand Porsche geboren, der spätere Automobilkonstrukteur und Entwickler des Volkswagens. Das Wohnhaus der Familie ist gleichzeitig das Geschäftshaus seines Vaters Anton Porsche, der in der angeschlossenen Werkstatt eine Spenglerei führt.

Hier verbringt Ferdinand Porsche seine Kinder- und Jugendzeit und macht im Familienbetrieb eine Ausbildung zum Spengler. Hier macht er seine ersten Konstruktionen – und seine ersten Versuche mit elektrischem Strom, die in der Elektrifizierung des Gebäudes münden. Bis zu seinem Umzug nach Wien im Jahr 1893 lebt er in diesem Haus.

Hierher kehrt Ferdinand Porsche auch 1902 zurück, als er seinen Eltern seine Braut Aloisia Kaes vorstellt. Die Reise von Wien nach Maffersdorf unternimmt das junge Paar in einem Lohner-Porsche ‚Mixte‘ mit benzin-elektrischem Hybridantrieb, den Porsche selbst konstruiert hat.

RUNDGANG DURCH DIE AUSSTELLUNG

Im Zentrum der Ausstellung steht der Ingenieursgeist Ferdinand Porsches: Ausgehend vom authentischen Ort würdigt sie den großen Konstrukteur als historische Person und zeichnet nach, wie seine herausragenden Leistungen auf dem Gebiet der Mobilität schließlich in der Konstruktion des Volkswagens gipfeln. Daneben wird die Entwicklung der Ingenieurskunst beleuchtet, in deren Tradition Ferdinand Porsches Lebenswerk steht.

INGENIEURSGEISTIn vier Vitrinen werden historische Meilensteine der Ingenieurs-kunst präsentiert – vom ersten Werkzeug des Menschen bis hin zu Erfindungen für die Welt von morgen. Ein besonderer Fokus liegt auf der Region Böhmen mit ihrer reichen Tradition von technischem Pioniergeist.

MOBILITÄTRund um das zentrale Ausstellungsstück, den Lohner-Porsche, geht es um Forschung, Entwicklung und Designstudien für die Fahrzeuge von morgen – begleitet von einem medialen Ausblick in die Zukunft der Mobilität.

FAMILIEDer große Tisch im Familienraum ist aufgeladen mit Erinnerun-gen und Geschichten, die von Ferdinand Porsches Lebens-stationen – Vratislavice, Wien, Wiener Neustadt, Stuttgart, Wolfsburg, Gmünd und Zell am See – erzählen. Eine Fülle von Fotografien ist der Einstieg in eine multimediale Präsentation seines Lebens und Wirkens.
