MEET OUR NEWEST STAFF MEMBER Ms. Lori Glass is actually not “new” to St. Francis de Sales parish. In fact, she has been the beloved first grade teacher at our parish school for the past 10 years! As of July 1, she has taken on the additional responsibility as Director of Religious Education for kindergarten thru eighth grade children here at St. Francis de Sales church. She will be coordinating the Sunday religion classes, overseeing the catechists, planning the sacramental preparation of First Reconciliation and First Communion, arranging special events, and running the Wednesday evening middle school programs. She will be working closely with our dedicated volunteers. Ms. Glass earned her bachelor’s degree with an emphasis in Special Education from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. She began her career with the Delavan/Darien school district teaching 4th and 5th grade for 13 years. After taking some time off from the classroom to raise her family, she returned part time to SFDS as the computer teacher, and was hired the following year to teach first grade. Ms. Glass spends her free time with her family, especially her three sons. Jacob is a correctional officer for Marquette County in the U.P. of Michigan. He is married (Ashley) and they are expecting their first child in November. Nicholas will graduate from Michigan Tech University in December as a Civil Engineer. Lastly, Andrew will be a freshman this year at UW-Platteville pursuing a mechanical engineering degree. Ms. Glass is also a wonderful volunteer in our parish activities and you might recognize her as a Eucharistic minister at Mass. We are thrilled to have Lori Glass on board to bring her passion of teaching along with her knowledge of the Catholic faith to our religious education program. Please give her a warm welcome to her newest staff position!

HELP FOR PARENTS OF YOUNG KIDS DURING MASS! We now have “Busy Bags”---small backpacks with quiet activities for children during Mass---on the left side by the chapel entrance on hooks. Please help yourself and simply return it when you leave!

FAITH WITH A FACE-MONICA SERNA AND ISRAEL GORDILLO You might recognize this young couple from their many hours of volunteering at our parish. Their participation at Mass is evident...sometimes as servers, sometimes as ushers or Eucharistic Ministers. They seem to always be aware of the needs and step up to help. What you might not know is that they lead also weekly discipleship group of Hispanic teens. About a dozen kids (ages 14-18) meet with Monica and Israel every Thursday evening. They usually do an hour of fun activities, ranging from playing sports outside to charade games to water gun fights. After that they do about an hour of readings from the Bible followed by discussions. Monica and Israel are both bi-lingual so they can easily help clarify some of the concepts from the Bible passages which are read in English. Monica and Israel met at Badger High School. They are currently attending Gateway College and both are working toward nursing degrees. Monica also works at Burlington Memorial Hospital as a CNA on the medical/surgical floor. Israel was recently certified as an EMT and will soon be working with the Lake Geneva Fire Department. In his “spare” time he also works at Oakfire restaurant in Lake Geneva. They are very dedicated altar servers and have volunteered for many special liturgies as well as help to train the younger altar servers. What is their favorite Mass? Israel says “By far the Easter Vigil. I love how the Mass goes from darkness to light. You can feel the joy in everyone’s hearts that Jesus has risen”. Our parish is blessed to have such special people as Monica and Israel lighting the way for our youth. Please let them know how grateful we are for all that they do the next time you see them at Mass!

Project 2017 News, Upcoming Events & Project Updates ADDING MORE COVERAGE! One of the most dramatic changes in the church was the painting of the walls and ceiling. Conrad Schmitt Studios did an amazing job of creating a new color palette and custom stencils to highlight the beautiful Gothic architecture of the church. Other areas needed to be painted as well. The entrance off of Highway 50 and the area by the new baptismal font needed to be painted because of the new construction. Some areas hadn’t been painted in very long time...the sacristy not only needed painting but lots of plaster and wall repair. Parishioner Matt Huml, along with his partner Antonio, completed this work for us. This past week they also painted the parish center (lots of wear and tear was fixed and patched) and gave the parish offices a fresh new look as well. Volunteer Madeleine Engerman painted the ceiling in the breezeway, and our maintenance staff painted the walls of the parish library (downstairs). Parishioner Chris Weber stained the concrete in the breezeway to give it a clean, new look. The stucco by the parking lot entrance was fixed and painted. Everything looks so nice! You will also notice that in that past few weeks that new flooring was put into all of the offices and meeting rooms of the parish center. New carpet squares were placed in all except for the Jonah Room (which doubles as the art classroom for our parish school) where a new vinyl floor was installed. Check it out! Thanks to our vendors and volunteers for all of your work!

ST. ANDREW MASS TIME CHANGE St. Andrew's Saturday Mass time will change to 4:00 p.m. (from 5 p.m.) as of Saturday, July 15.
