Put your backpack and coat in your locker.Check the hall floor for lost items.Bring in all necessary school supplies and homework. Greet Mrs. Benham and shake her hand.Sign in for attendance.Get a chair.Turn in notes & forms to the basket and lunch money.Open your planner on the top of your desk.Put returned library books in the bin.Check schedule and procedures on Smart Board.Begin morning work. Have Spanish folder out by 8:30.Complete classroom job duties (if necessary).On Mondays, turn in Independent Reading Minutes slip.

Check the schedule on the Smart Board each morning.

Our class will have language arts in the morning (reading, writing, and spelling)

Afternoon rotations on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday:

~12:20-1:10 Science~1:10-2:00 Social Studies~2:20-3:10 Math

Afternoon rotations on Friday: ~12:15-12:50 Science~12:50-1:25 Social Studies~1:25-2:00 Math

We have music, gym, and art on Friday mornings. Spanish will be on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesdays,

Thursdays from 8:30-8:50 Computer Lab time on Tuesday morning after recess Buddy Class with Ms. Mudge’s 2nd graders

Complete planner as a whole class silently at 3:10. This is a time to wind down, not up!

Complete classroom job duties if necessary.

Clean up the classroom floor. If there is extra time, complete

homework or read silently. WAIT for Mrs. Benham to dismiss

you. Line up in the classroom and give

Mrs. Benham a high-five, fist-pound, or hug before you leave for the day .

Enter quietly. Be seated. Take out materials and homework. Look at the schedule board and screen for class assignments and goals. Listen for directions silently.

When Leaving the When Leaving the ClassroomClassroom

Listen to the clean-up instructions and immediately get ready.

Put all your belongings away and pick-up the floor near your desk.

Be seated and place your supplies in your desk ~ nothing should be left out.

Wait for Mrs. Benham to dismiss the class.

Push in your chair. Line up in number order in the room.

Before you leave the classroom:

You may visit your locker at these times only:

Before and after school.

Before and after recesses.

Before and after lunch.You may not visit your locker at any other time during the day.

Ask for permission to leave the room using sign language or making eye contact with the teacher.

Fill out the sign-out sheet (be sure to sign back in!)

Walk quietly in the hall and wait patiently if it is occupied (do not continually knock

on the door or tell someone to hurry up).

Use the closest bathroom to your location.

Return quickly and quietly to your classroom.

If it is an emergency, just leave the classroom and tell a peer to inform the teacher for you.

Raise your hand. Wait to be called on. Use an indoor voice. Ask appropriate questions or add appropriate

comments to the classroom discussion.

If need help or have a question about where something is or how to do something, seek help from 3 reliable peers before you ask me. If 3 people can’t help you, I will be happy to help . This strategy will help me get to everyone more effectively.

When you hear others start to count 1,2,3,4,5, join in with them.

When we stop at 5, the whole class should be doing the following: eyes on speaker, quiet, be still, hands free, listening.

This will be used to get a whole groups attention.

Outdoor Recess

If you take equipment out, you are responsible for turning it back in. Get dressed in outdoor shoes and clothing. WALK to the exit door. Exit the building SLOWLY WITHOUT PUSHING. Remember, you can’t say, “You can’t play.” Include everyone in the

recess games. If there is an issue on the playground, be sure to inform the adult that

is out there on recess duty IMMEDIATELY. When you hear the recess bell ring, immediately stop playing and

quickly get into classroom lines at the doors. Quietly stand in line at the door waiting for a teacher to allow you into

the building.

YOU MUST HAVE A TEACHER’S PERMISSION TO BE ANYWHERE ELSE DURING RECESS!

AFTER RECESS :Return playground equipment.Visit your locker. Bring your snack after first recess. Return quietly to the classroom. If the teacher is not in the room, pull out your independent reading book and wait silently.

You may use indoor recess materials or draw/read quietly. Use inside voices and actions. All students must stay in their homeroom class during

indoor recess unless given permission by a teacher or recess monitor.

Quickly pick-up all materials when the bell rings. Return all materials neatly. Follow directions of recess monitors. Get your snack from your locker AFTER first recess. Return to your desk silently ready to learn.

5th Graders eat lunch first with the Kindergarten and 1st graders and then have recess second.

Be sure to return all recess equipment after recess. Make sure everyone has a friend to sit with at

lunch and be helpful to the younger students. You will be role models of how to act in the lunchroom to our younger students.

Use your manners in the lunchroom. Quickly return from lunch and be ready to start

Science.

You may bring a HEALTHY snack to eat after first recess (no snacks during indoor or outdoor recess).Your snack should not require cutting, cooking, peeling, or napkins. It should be food that can be quickly eaten with minimal mess. We eat while learning.

Schedule with Mrs. Benham a time to bring in your treat.It should be something that can be eaten and/or drank with minimal mess or work.  It should be cut into individual pieces.Please provide napkins, cups, plates, etc. if the treat needs those supplies.

You may get supplies or a drink:•When the teacher is not speaking to the whole class.•During quiet work time.Move about the room without disturbing others!

Line-up inside of the classroom in number order. Wait for the teacher to dismiss the class. Walk in a single file line. Walk on the right side of the hall. No talking. Hands to yourself. The first person in line stops at different points

in the hallway until the teacher gives the signal to continue down the hallway.

The first person in line holds the door until everyone is in designated room.

When you hear an announcement: Stop what you are doing. Freeze. Listen silently.

When the announcement is over: Return to your activity.

Supplies to keep in your desk: binder (by feet propped on desk leg), language arts journal, cursive book, independent reading book, and a couple pencils and a pen.

Supplies to keep in your locker: math book, math journal, coloring supplies, extra pencils and pens/craft materials

Sharpen pencils at the beginning of the day, recess times, and at the end of the day. Have a few pencils sharpened at all times in case one breaks.

You are welcomed to use all the classroom supplies on the counter and in the supply drawers.

Be sure to recycle all paper. Remove any staples before placing it in the recycling bin.

Classroom library has an honor check out system. Return books to the classroom library tub, not back on the shelf.

Each folder is labeled with a subject area. Be sure to keep all papers in the pocket of the appropriate folder.

Put mail and notes for home in your mail folder. Empty this folder the same day at home.

Always keep your planner, math journal, in your binder.

Only keep a small amount of supplies in your binder so that it is not too heavy. (pencils, pens, & highlighter)

When switching classes for science, social studies, and math, don’t leave supplies out in your desk.

Keep it in your binder. Bring it to all classes. Record nightly homework.

Record independent reading time. Ask a parent to sign your planner & Reading Minutes Slip.

LockLockerer

Keep your gym shoes in your locker. Hang your back pack, coat, snow pants, etc. on the hooks. Keep your boots on the bottom. Keep any books or extra supplies on the top shelf.

(scissors, crayons, markers, extra pens, extra pencils, etc.) Empty out wrappers or garbage each day. Papers should never be laying in your locker. Keep your back pack clean of papers or garbage. Be sure to take home extra sweatshirts, jackets, etc. You may decorate the inside of your locker with magnetic

items. Please don’t put stickers on your locker. Keep only your name tag on the outside of your locker. No birthday decorations or any other decorations on the

outside of your locker.

Bring your binder containing: Subject folders. Pencil pouch with

pencils/pens. Planner.

Bring your books for each class.

Bring any papers, materials, or homework that is due.

~Always put forth your best effort and write neatly!

~Complete all assignments in pencil.~Check all assignments in pen. Only mark

incorrect answers when checking your paper.

ASSIGNMENT ASSIGNMENT GUIDELINESGUIDELINES

ALL student work should be turned in THE DAY IT IS DUE when it is collected.

Put your work in front of your student number. Students with a missing assignment need to:

~Language Arts = sign the missing work board.~Math = get your math assignment sheet signed

by Mrs. Lecours or the guest teacher.

Turn in LATE work to the appropriate drawer (late work = 10% off your grade).

Students will be given a grade of 0% in the grade book for work that is not turned in the day after the assigned due date. However, the work still needs to be completed.

Students need to read a minimum of 150 minutes/week at home to receive full credit.

Thirty minutes/night for five nights is suggested. A Reading Minute Slip will be clipped into your

planner each Monday morning. Record reading minutes daily on your slip in your

planner. A parent needs to initial your Reading Minute Slip after you record your reading minutes each time.

On Monday morning you will turn in your completed Reading Minute Slip to your homework slot. A new slip will be delivered to your desk for you to clip into the corresponding week in your planner.

YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE TO FIND OUT ABOUT THE WORK YOU MISSED.Go on our website to find out what you missed for the day.http://teachersites.schoolworld.com/webpages/KBenham/absence.cfmPick-up any forms handed out while you were gone from the absence recorder.Discuss missed assignments with the recorder and/or teacher.Take the work home to complete.For every day you are absent you have one day to complete missing work.Special arrangements should be made for vacations.

When you hear the fire alarm:Walk Quickly & Silently to the door.Exit the room and proceed to the nearest exit.WALK down the stairs and straight to ball field.Line up in number order once you are there.While waiting there, stand absolutely silent.If you are somewhere else in the building, exit the building at

the nearest exit and then find our class outside and join our

line.Remember:The first person holds the outside door.The last person turns off the lights and closes the classroom door.

When you hear the tornado alarm:Walk Quickly & Silently to the door. Exit the room and proceed to the hallway.Turn towards a wall and sit down on the floor. Stay in this position SILENTLY until we are told to go

back to the classroom.

Remember:Don’t sit down on the floor in front of a classroom door with a glass window. The last person turns off the lights and closes the classroom door.

$10 and $20 bills. Each student will have a checking account with a

checkbook as well as a credit card.

How to earn money: Classroom jobs, working hard, being organized,

being kind to others, helping others, making good choices, going over and above in the classroom, etc.

What you spend your money on: Not getting your planner signed, not being

prepared for class, buying pencil/pen, distracting others, having an unorganized desk/binder/locker, breaking a rule, etc.

Save your hard-earned money for the end of the year fifth grade auction!

Recommended
