What is good attendance?• 90% attendance sounds good but is it?
90% attendance = ½ day missed every week!!
1 school year at 90%
attendance = 4 whole weeks of lessons MISSED!!!
17 missed school days a year
= GCSE grade DROP in achievement. (DfES)
The greater the attendance the greater the achievement.
In order for our students to achieve their full potential good attendance is therefore
essential.
How could this impact potential earnings?

What will the new Assessment Structure Look Like?
Principles of Developing Independent Learners
• Needs to be taught• Incremental: it is best done in steps.• Set high expectations:
– Opportunities– Remind and encourage– Praise and reward
• Monitored• Lifelong• Do NOT have to work on their own!
How can parents help?
• Opportunities• Praise• Encourage• Challenge

how they match careers• Term 3 – Option Book published• Term 3 – GCSE/BTEC taster sessions• Term 3 – Individual student interviews re choices• Thursday 29th January – Options Evening• Thursday 15th February – Deadline for submission of option choices
Learning Pathways
• All students will be placed on a learning pathways based on their CAT scores, cycle data, current attainment and their teachers knowledge of how they work.
• The aim of the learning pathway is to give each student the best chance of achieving a set number of qualifications at the best grade that reflects their academic ability.
• All students will have an individual interview with a senior member of staff to help support their decision making process
• Unfortunately we may not be able to match every students desired combination of subjects but every effort will be made to support students towards alternative subjects.
• New guidelines do not allow certain combinations of subjects to be taken together more details on this will be given in the Option Booklet when it is published.
• If insufficient numbers of students choose a subject it may not be possible to run that subject in these circumstances students will be asked to select an alternative.
Our Curriculum• We teach a spiral curriculum, building on topics in the
same way as a wall is built• It is based upon the four main areas of Maths, with a high
focus on problem solving in preparation for the new GCSE• Pupils are taught in stages rather than by year, meaning
work is tailored to their personal progress and targets• Each stage is planned so that every lesson includes
support work and extension to ensure all pupils are challenged

8th September 2014Presentation of written work
When readers look at classwork or homework, they see not only the message but also the appearance of the work. Appearance is a part of the communication they receive and it affects the messages that readers form in their minds. Writers, therefore, should use care in preparing and arranging their documents so that they make a positive first impression.
