FIRST READINGActs 4:5-12

Peter and John before the council

R: The first Reading for the fourth Sunday of Easter is written in Chapter 4 of Acts, beginning at Verse five.

Page 28: WELCOME to TRINITY

28

Acts 4:5-12 5The next morning the leaders, the

elders, and the teachers of the Law of Moses met in Jerusalem. 6The high priest Annas was there, as well as Caiaphas, John, Alexander, and other members of the high priest's family.

Page 29: WELCOME to TRINITY

29

Acts 4:5-12 7They brought in Peter and John and

made them stand in the middle while they questioned them. They asked, "By what power and in whose name have you done this?”

Page 30: WELCOME to TRINITY

30

Acts 4:5-12 8Peter was filled with the Holy Spirit and

told the nation's leaders and the elders:

9You are questioning us today about a kind deed in which a crippled man was healed. 10But there is something we must tell you and everyone else in Israel.

Page 31: WELCOME to TRINITY

31

Acts 4:5-12 This man is standing here completely

well because of the power of Jesus Christ from Nazareth. You put Jesus to death on a cross, but God raised him to life. 11He is the stone that you builders thought was worthless, and now he is the most important stone of all.

Page 32: WELCOME to TRINITY

32

Acts 4:5-12 12Only Jesus has the power to save! His

name is the only one in all the world that can save anyone.

This is the Word of the Lord.C: Thanks be to God.

Second reading1 John 3:16-24

The Christian's assurance

R: The Second Reading is written in Chapter 3 of First John, beginning at Verse 16.

Page 39: WELCOME to TRINITY

39

1 John 3:16-24 16We know what love is because Jesus

gave his life for us. That's why we must give our lives for each other. 17If we have all we need and see one of our own people in need, we must have pity on that person, or else we cannot say we love God. 18Children, you show love for others by truly helping them, and not merely by talking about it.

Page 40: WELCOME to TRINITY

40

1 John 3:16-24 19When we love others, we know that we

belong to the truth, and we feel at ease in the presence of God. 20But even if we don't feel at ease, God is greater than our feelings, and he knows everything.

Page 41: WELCOME to TRINITY

41

1 John 3:16-24 21Dear friends, if we feel at ease in the

presence of God, we will have the courage to come near him. 22He will give us whatever we ask, because we obey him and do what pleases him. 23God wants us to have faith in his Son Jesus Christ and to love each other. This is also what Jesus taught us to do.

Page 42: WELCOME to TRINITY

42

1 John 3:16-24 24If we obey God's commandments, we

will stay one in our hearts with him, and he will stay one with us. The Spirit that he has given us is proof that we are one with him

This is the Word of the Lord.C: Thanks be to God.

GOSPEL M: The Holy Gospel is written in

Chapter 10 of the Gospel according to St John, beginning at Verse eleven.

C:Glory to you, O Lord .

John 10:11-18 NIVThe good shepherd dies for the sheep

43

Page 44: WELCOME to TRINITY

GOSPEL M: Jesus said:

11 “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. 12 The hired hand is not the shepherd and does not own the sheep. So when he sees the wolf coming, he abandons the sheep and runs away.

44

Page 45: WELCOME to TRINITY

GOSPEL Then the wolf attacks the flock and

scatters it. 13 The man runs away because he is a hired hand and cares nothing for the sheep.

14 “I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me— 15 just as the Father knows me and I know the Father—and I lay down my life for the sheep.

45

Page 46: WELCOME to TRINITY

GOSPEL 16 I have other sheep that are not of

this sheep pen. I must bring them also. They too will listen to my voice, and there shall be one flock and one shepherd. 17 The reason my Father loves me is that I lay down my life—only to take it up again.

46

Page 47: WELCOME to TRINITY

GOSPEL 18 No one takes it from me, but I lay it

down of my own accord. I have authority to lay it down and authority to take it up again. This command I received from my Father.”

This is the Gospel of the LordC: Praise to you, O Christ raised

to live forever.47

Page 48: WELCOME to TRINITY

shepherd, for being willing to die for your sheep. Lead us to know you and to follow you.

Page 50: WELCOME to TRINITY

APOSTLE’S CREED

And in Jesus Christ, his only Son our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried. He descended into hell. The third day he rose again from the dead.

APOSTLE’S CREED

He ascended into heaven, and sits at the right hand of God, the Father almighty, from thence he will come to judge the living and the dead.

1. Rock of ages cleft for me,Let me hide myself in You;Let the water and the blood,From Your ruptured side which

flowed,Be of sin the double cure:Cleanse me from its guilt and power.
