It is not very easy to be a Catholic these days. We are truly blessed most importantly with our strong traditions and very loving caring and faithful parents and supportive

siblings. Nothing in this world can replace those blessings. We have to be always grateful to God and appreciative of

those in our lives. It is their good qualities and our opportunity to interact with them while growing up that

make us the persons that we are today.

Simple psychology reminds us that our personality type and traits are determined very early in our life while

growing up in our families. Our interactions with our parents and siblings, our readiness to listen to parents and seek their guidance, our respect for and cooperation with

our siblings, generate the dynamics of our own personality. It is when we look back into our lives that we see how

blessed we are.

Certain qualities that are very predominant in our lives that we learn from our family are, our devotions, our faith in Jesus and His teachings, our active life in and loyalty to

the church and its regulations, our commitment and responsibility to the larger community and to our own

Nation. Responsible citizenship begins with responsible church participation. It begins at home which we learn

from our parents and siblings.

A very important influence of our families and our Catholic tradition is in our moral values. We learn from

home how to discipline our lives by obeying moral teachings of the church. When we are teenagers the real

challenge in our faith life is this moral tradition. Our Catholic Tradition insists that we do not condone to sex

outside marriage, especially we do not condone to teen sex. The world does not care about such moral values. Fre-

quently people yield to the liberal agenda. That is more reason parents are worried about teenagers starting their

dating too early. Many a young person without any catholic moral values will insist on having sex right away. Fear of losing the loved one many a young girl yield without seri-

ously thinking what she is losing in her life, her most precious virginity. Some of them insist the girls to leave the

catholic faith itself. This has become a commonly occurring issue these days. The gravity increases if parents themselves fail the rules. Love, Faith and Morality are very

important in our Catholic Tradition.

Liberal sex, selfishness and irresponsible attitudes will lead to irreligious choices. Parents should hold respectful

dialogue with teenagers and guide them to responsible choices before they yield to liberal social pressures in the

community.. God bless you all

From the Pastor’s Desk / Del Escritorio del Padre

Estamos verdaderamente bendecidos, y mas importante aun, tenemos

nuestras fuertes tradiciones y nuestros padres y hermanos fieles y cariñosos.

—Fray Gilberto Cavazos-Glz, OFM, Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION The cause of church unity is commended to Christians for prayer and action every year around this time. This week is not so much to focus on the many divisions within the Christian family, but on bonds of faith and mission. Even though Christians have always shown an inclination to fracture, spin off, and mutate into new expressions, recent history shows some new points of convergence and agreement. Catholics are more firmly rooted in the word of God, for example, and many Protestants are more likely to celebrate Communion than in years past. Some denominations are merging and pooling resources, and people from various traditions are collaborating on projects.

The call of this week is to be mindful of the diversity of our traditions and customs while treasuring what we hold in common. The old advice to “lighten up” is good medicine, because sometimes our differences are delightful and amusing. If someone says, “Let us pray,” a Catholic might close the eyes, bow the head and fold hands; a Protestant reach out and clasp hands with the person in the next chair; and someone belonging to an Orthodox tradition might stand up with eyes wide open. Each has taken a different path, but the goal is always the same. This is a week not for focusing on the well-worn paths of divergence, but for mutual delight in a common goal. —James Field, Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

A VISIBLE GOD We find it difficult to convey ideas to people unless we can actually show them something, demonstrate what we mean. God, who is invisible and truly beyond human understanding, apparently faces the same difficulty. People want to see, not just listen to an idea. So God gave us Jesus Christ, God made visible in the world.

During these past weeks we have seen how Jesus was revealed as an infant to the shepherds and the magi, and then began his adult “public life” at his baptism by John. Today’s Gospel reading tells us of his “first sign,” providing wine for the wedding guests at Cana. Of course, even Jesus, God made visible, was not always easily understood in his own day, nor is he even now. So we have to ponder what we see: the poverty and simplicity of his birth, his humility and openness before John the Baptist, his kindness and compassion toward people in their ordinary problems, such as running short of wine at a wedding. Yet it is in coming to know Jesus that we come to know God. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.
