When a child’s language has developed enough, they will join a mainstream class for certain lessons, for example, daily Maths or weekly Art lessons. This will lead to a full transfer when the child is ready.

ESL

Integration

In class we will be following the Year 2 curriculum but adjusting it to really push the focus on learning English; speaking, listening, reading and writing.

Focus

We will spend social time with other

Year 2 classes.

Twinning & Integration

We twin for PE, Swimming, Julliard Music, Music at the Academy, Imagineers, Library and specific aspects of PBL

The class teacher and NTA’s support where necessary during these times and will always be there for Library and PBL

If children are able to manage integration for Mandarin they do so on a daily basis

If a child is able to access the mainstream curriculum in any subject area they can be integrated for that specific subject. However the child has to be able to do this without any additional support.

New National Curriculum

A revised National Curriculum has been published in the UK.

Over the course of the year we will be implementing these changes into our planning.

Our planning includes cross-curricular links, where appropriate, in order to ensure that a broad and balanced curriculum is delivered.

Contacting the teachers

Emails are not checked during the school day as it interferes with teaching and learning.

They are checked before school and after school within school hours.

We will endeavour to reply to them as soon as we can but have after school meetings, ECAs and training.

Please use the communication book for anything urgent as this is checked each morning or leave a message at the front office.

If you have something less urgent you can email us.

Our email addresses can be found on the school website.

We also encourage all parents to sign up for e-newsletters. As soon as all the parents have signed up we can look at sending out far fewer paper copies.

Marking

Each piece of work your child completes will be marked using the DCIS marking code

In order to encourage reluctant writers we do not correct every mistake but will correct words that your child is familiar with.

When the children are working the teachers will be moving around the room doing intervention marking this will be indicated by an I

During the brief intervention the children are given their next step

The final product is then marked according to the L.O.

Children who have achieved the LO will get a tick, those that have achieved it with support will have a tick and a WS (with support) Children working towards it will have a WT (working towards) those who have not yet achieved it will have a cross.
