Future
The future is commonly understood to contain all events that have yet to occur. It is the opposite of the past, and is the time subsequent to the present.
Moore’s Law
• That the number of transistors that can be inexpensively placed on an integrated circuit is increasing exponentially, doubling approximately every two years.
• Computers are getting really small, and are working really fast.
The Metaverse as I See it
• A informational overlay over everything that exists that provides background information about products, places, people, and events.
• Metadata is that background information that provides perspective on what you are interacting with at the time.
We Can All Add Our Own
• Google Maps – my points of interest• Product reviews – my experience• Flickr photo site – my photo library• Angie’s List – my favorite vendor• Trip Advisor – my favorite hotel• Amazon – my thoughts on books
(And to think we used to pay for hotel reviews and really cool photos to use in presentations … )
Metaverse Meet Healthcare
• Information is the key to good health• Diagnostic information only counts if it
is accurate and accessible• Information comes from monitoring• Real time diagnostic monitoring is
preferable to periodic tests and analysis
• Monitoring requires costly equipment and is labor intensive to perform
Moore’s Law & Total Health Awareness
• Pedometer• EKG• Blood pressure monitor• Cholesterol• Daily calorie consumption / use• Glaucoma test• Diabetes / Insulin monitor with Pump• Fertility tracker
Behavior Modification
• Present data to patients to showcase behavior changes
• Map and predict impact and changes • Use monitoring device to watch and
maintain patient progress• Use device as a repository for
medical history and leverage data for use in epidemiological studies
Virtual World Paralleling
• Use modeling and prediction technologies to project futures onto avatars
• Leverage interactive nature for education purpose, showing choice models
• Track human behavior and interactions in isolated uncontrolled environments
Current Projects
• Center for Disease Control and Prevention Flu transmission and awareness in Whyville
• Diabetes Education and Awareness Escape From Diab
• Physical Activity ImpactWhyville
• Emergency Room Training in Virtual Spaces
