A Scouting Mission

The Mission• God told Moses

to send 12 scouts.

• Why 12?

• They were tasked to checkout the land of Canaan

Page 5: Welcome Yeshua’s Yeladim

The Journey• Caleb and

Joshua were 2 of the scouts sent.

• They checked out the land for 40 days.

The Return

• They returned and reported to Moses, Aaron, and the Jewish people.

• The land flowed with milk and honey

The Report

• The people were powerful.

• Giants lived in the land

• The people became worried

Caleb and Joshua Speak

• They urged the people to go up and take the land.

• The 10 other scouts spread a bad report.

• The Jewish people became scared.

The Jewish People’s Response• The whole community

broke into crying

• They spoke bad things against Moses and Aaron

• They shouted: “If only we might die in this wilderness!”

Moses and Aaron • Moses and Aaron fell on

their faces and prayed to God

• The community threatened to stone Moses

• Moses asked God to forgive them saying that God was “slow to anger and abounding in kindness, forgiving iniquity and transgression.”

The LORD Speaks

• God pardoned

• None of the men who had seen God’s signs would see the Promised Land

• 20 years old and up would die in the wilderness.

The Result

• Only Caleb and Joshua would be able to see the land

• Israel wandered in the wilderness for 40 years

A Very Sad Day• Occurred on the 9th of Av

• Also known as on Tishah B'Av

• The destruction of the First Temple (Babylonians, 586 B.C.)

• The destruction of the Second Temple (Romans, 70 A.D.)

that occurred when the 12 scouts explored the Promised Land.

• We learned that Joshua and Caleb gave a good report.

• We learned that the day of the bad report was on the 9th of Av or Tishah B’Av.
