Opportunity to weld with both products

Silvio Modena,

Industrial District Manager, Northern California and Nevada

Miller Electric Company and Hobart Filler Metals

Silvio started with Miller Electric Mfg. in 1998. He will be demonstrating

new MIG wire from Hobart, with all welcome to give it a hands on appli-

cation. From Silvio:

Hobart makes several different wires that are designed for critical seis-

mic applications according to AWS D1.8 testing requirements. We will

be focusing on a field application with Hobart XLR-8 Self Shielded wire.

This wire is designed to ease the use of the operator, increase productivity

and take complexity out of the welding process. It is a low hydrogen weld

deposit that can be used in a wide range of heat inputs and still have ex-

cellent mechanical properties. We will be ready for you to use it at Shasta

College so please bring your welding hoods and gloves.

Miranda Frank,

Technical Sales Engineer

Lincoln Electric Company

Miranda has been with Lincoln Electric Company since June of 2013.

She is a graduate of Purdue University with a Bachelors Degree in Chemi-

cal Engineering, and is now a resident of the Sacramento area.

The Lincoln wire to be demonstrated will be Innershield NR-232. It is

made for out-of –position welding in seismic zones with high deposition

rates. Welding hoods and gloves apply here, also.

SIEMENS RAILCAR MANUFACTURING FACILITY

SACRAMENTO, CALIFORNIA TOUR

Mayk Lehmann, Director of Quality Management, Welding Excellence Program is pic-

tured above receiving AWS plaque from Bill Wenzel, District Chairman of the Sacramento

Valley Section. This was a very informative tour of Siemens state-of –the-art manufacturing

facility for railcars and locomotives in the Sacramento area.

Siemens will be adding approximately 160 welders at the facility when contracts for building

over 170 streetcars for the city of San Francisco are awarded. The company is anticipating the

advent of building stainless steel passenger coaches in the near future. They are positioned to

competitively bid for the building of high-speed locomotives for the new California high-speed

rail line when it is built. Current product lines include electric locomotives, streetcars, light rail

vehicles, and passenger coaches. Highly-skilled welders will be needed, and a small number of

spprenticeship positions are under consideration. Currently, most units are built to the D1.1

Code Standard.
