Week 7 Term 2 Welcome to Week 7 We are well and truly into the reporting time of our busy semester. All students are encouraged to continue to take ownership of their learning and how they prepare themselves for learning. All St Peter’s students are now familiar with their “Feeling Zones” which helps them to plan and get ready to be active and engaged learners in class. Next week is “Wellbeing Week”, so this is a perfect time for the students to reflect of how they are feeling. Today our Year 6 students, teachers and school officers are heading away to camp for three days on the beautiful Gold Coast. We wish them all the best on their amazing adventures. Throughout the week all students will try various regulation strategies – moving, breathing, rhythming, and time out strategies and nominate their top tools. The Year 6 students and staff have got many resources together. You are more than welcome to check out our website and grab some of the great tools that you can use with your children at home. State of Origin Class v Class

Competition – next Wednesday

6 June, we will be holding a fete

fundraiser event. To celebrate the

State of Origin, students are able

to wear their maroon (red) or blue

on the day and donate chocolate

bars. Each chocolate donated gets

State of Origin Points for your

child's class. A family size block of

chocolate earns 6 points (a

converted try), long skinny bars

earn 2 points (goal), and small

chocolates like Freddos earn 1

point (field goal).

The winning class receives a prize!

The more chocolates the better!!

PB4L Update - This term at St Peter’s our focus is to continue to create engaged learners who are responsible for

their own learning. These ROCKS rules incorporate our RESPECT and OWN IT learning behaviours. For the remainder of the term students will learn to reflect on their own learning, be organised for class, be curious and motivated to learning and keep a sharp focus on what tasks are

being set. To further enhance our students’ preparation to learning they have been gaining a greater understanding of their own feelings and this can impact on the way they learn in class. The “Feeling Zones” that the students’ are understanding also contributes to having, not only a calm classroom, but a safe and fun playground.

At St Peter’s we will continue to reward positive behaviours in the classroom and on the playground and persevere in the re-teaching of inappropriate behaviours, so that all students have the opportunity to grow academically and socially.

Congratulations – The outstanding performance of our Zone Cross Country runners meant that St Peters were awarded 2nd Overall in Division 2 and 1st for the Aggregate Trophy in Division 2 at the recent Catholic Schools Zone Carnival.

Under 8’s Week – We concluded last weeks Under 8’s Week with a Cultural Day on Friday celebrating all the different cultures in our St Peters Community. Some of us dressed up and we all shared each other’s cultural dishes.

Sorry Day Assembly – At assembly last week 5A shared the power of National Sorry Day, we reflected on how we might create a more powerful and peaceful relationship with all Australians, in particular our first Australians.

Tuckshop News - Thank you to the wonderful mums who came into help in tuckshop last week. Winter is upon us

and that means adults and children alike can be unwell and away from school. Tuckshop has the challenge of providing

a service to our school community with the possibility of being shorthanded due to illness. Please watch the school

and P&F Facebook pages for notifications relating to tuckshop volunteers and help out if you can!

As has been mentioned in previous newsletters the school is introducing a formal St Peter’s Shirt We’d love your input

on the best way to do this.

School Formal Shirt: A sample is available at the school office for you to feel. We’ve had lots of excited students come

for a look and the parents that have been through have been overly positive about the new shirt. We will take the

display down to assembly on Friday so parents can check out the shirt sample.

Some points about the new shirt

- It’s a unisex shirt (in line with current focus on school uniforms)

- Matches current uniform range

- Fabric can be washed, flicked/fanned out and hung straight on a hanger – Quick dry

- Doesn’t need ironing

- Can be worn with shorts (boys and girls) and culottes

- Price will be comparable to school polo shirt

- It looks great in presenting and presents a more formal image into our community

The plan for uniforms

- Our current polo shirt will become our sports shirt (possibly worn twice a week)

- Current coloured sports shirts to be worn on whole school sports days (cross country, swimming, athletics, house

days (these are being investigated), some special occasion days like in wellbeing weeks – possibility 10 days per year).

The current coloured shirts are available to purchase until stocks run out. Families may then source their o wn version of

a coloured shirt.

- Students in Yr. 6 in 2019 have the choice to purchase the formal shirt. It is not expected.

- It would be anticipated that once current excess polo shirts life span (including look has gone) then formal shirts

would be purchased. This is relevant to shirts that are being passed down to siblings.

implementation click on the link. The survey

should take no more than 10 minutes to answer

and closes next Friday 8 June.

If you are a volunteer at St Peter’s in any capacity

(excursions, tuckshop, library, classroom help,

coaching) you must complete the following online

training course. It takes less than 30 minutes. At

the end of the training there is a form to print out

and return to the school office. This remains

current for the year.

Parent and Child Education Evening

11th June 6.30 to 8.00pm

This term students and parents in Grade 5 and 6 have been invited to attend a Personal Development evening, “Life Work in Progress” The session is titled “Stepping Up To Puberty” and will focus on the normal emotional and physical changes that young people go through as part of the process of puberty. Parents and children will be involved in a discussion around this process. This evening is run by experienced educators with an understanding of the catholic perspective in relationships and sexuality education. The content provided is age appropriate. The content of the evening will include:

• Change as a natural part of life and who to speak about puberty with

• Puberty changes – focus on respect for self and others, and taking personal responsibility for hygiene and self -management of moods

• Girls and Boy physical and emotional development.

• Fertilisation and foetal development before birth

• Dealing with changes and self-care

• Displays of models and resources

Message from the Australian Government regarding the New child care package –

important information…

There’s not long to go before the New Child

Care Package is introduced on 2 July. If you

access Outside School Hours Care, or Vacation

Care, you will be affected by these changes.

The new Package will overhaul the current child

care fee assistance to provide more support for

more families.

The key facts you need to know:

• On 2 July, the current Child Care Rebate and Child Care Benefit will be replaced by a single Child Care Subsidy.

• Low and middle-income families will no longer have an annual cap on the amount of subsidised child care they can

claim and families with higher incomes (earning up to $351,248) also benefiting with the cap being increased from

$7,613 to $10,190 per child per year.

• Three things will determine how much Child Care Subsidy families can access including: combined family income,

activity level of parents, and the type of child care service they use.

• A wide range of activities will be recognised for the Child Care Subsidy including: paid work (including leave), study or

training, unpaid work in a family business, looking for work, volunteering, self-employment, setting up a new

business (for up to six months) and other activities on a case-by-case basis. If paid or unpaid maternity leave is a

condition of your employment, then that is also considered a recognised activity under the activity test.

• To transition to the subsidy, you’ll need to provide some new information and confirm your current details now

through myGov. To find out more information, visit education.gov.au/childcare
