Just like you

of it.
Let’s just make some music first…
Your voice can also be a percussion instrument! WHAT!???
What do you mean it makes me feel good?
What culture do think this groove
might come from?

Watch whole thing please!
Activities (for at home this week)1) Listen/watch to the above “All Night Long” arrangement. Find three musical devices that you think Jacob uses
to help create energy or momentum in the piece and keep the listener’s interest. Write these three things down on a word document with a description of how you think they work.
2) This is an arrangement of a famous piece which has it’s own compositional building blocks. What linking ideas/material do you think has Jacob used make the arrangement seem like a whole new composition?
3) Write down and describe three textural instrumental contrasts that happen at the same time somewhere in the arrangement.
4) Go to the research page below and have a listen over this week of at least one of the examples given. I do recommend all of them so please do come back and visit the ones you missed over the summer.
The plan (for the course)• Solo performances recorded in September (3 minutes minimum).
• Composition 1 (free) to be completely finished by Dec 1.
• Sketch/collect out your ideas at home from now to September use me as your muse and composition mentor. Share the ideas so I can help give you encouragement and thoughts on them. These collected ideas can become the germ of your composition in September when you put them together at school (re-create them at school)
• 4 out of every 5 classes from September will be doing composition. One out of every 5 classes to work on ensemble skills, listening to music, practice writing exams questions etc.
• Students will be still need to dedicate at least one night every week after school on their compositions.
• Ensemble pieces (1 minute ensemble time minimum will be decided as soon as solo done. Plan is to record in December before Christmas break.
• Composition 2 (brief)will be started as soon as a student is satisfied with his/her work and/or Dec 1st (whichever is first). If not happy with comp 1 mark the student can continue on their own to work on comp 1 but class time post-Dec 1st must be exclusively toward completion of Comp 2.
We will prepare as if the exam board
is NOT expected to make changes or until
we hear otherwise.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
It doesn’t matter what you have or haven’t done until now (cause you can’t get it back anyway)
It all about what you do in the now.
Practice your instrument, write (compose) and dedicate yourself to your music.
Be kind to yourself.
