Music nights are my favourite functions at school as they allow a large number of our students to highlight a wide range of talents and skills. This year we split the evening into two events, a junior and a senior event. I hope that this will make the evening more convenient for both parents and students. I hope everyone had an entertaining and enjoyable evening. Construction of New Fence A new fence is currently being constructed between G Block and C Block. The purpose of the fence is to obstruct the movement of students, parents and staff between the blocks when they arrive and depart the school. The construction of the fence is due to movement of cars in the parking area around the building and along the internal road. All students and parents are asked to use the main school entrance and not enter and depart the school via the internal road. While I understand this will be an inconvenience for some, I ask that students and parents respect our wishes as the safety of students is our top priority. Date Claimer – Grandparents and Special Friends Day Make sure you keep Tuesday 14 August free as this is Grandparents and Special Friends Day. A concert will be conducted in the hall, commencing at 09:00am followed by Grandparents and Special Friends moving to the classrooms to enjoy time working with the students. Have Your Say on NAPLAN A review of NAPLAN is currently underway focusing on its role in meeting the needs of Queensland students, parents and schools. Led by independent reviewer Dr Gabrielle Matters, the review will involve state, Catholic and independent schools to ensure a broad view of parent opinions are captured. Parents and caregivers are invited to provide their feedback via the online survey . SPORT NEWS Term 2 - Week 9 Sports Dates for Term 2 Senior Sports Day (Yrs 4, 5 & 6) > 21st & 22nd June (Week 10) Senior Gala Day (Yrs 4, 5 & 6) > 26th June (Week 11) Gala Day Planning for the upcoming Gala day is underway. On Tuesday 26 th June , we will be participating with Upper Mt Gravatt State School across both campuses and competing in a number of sports. Our school will be split into the four houses and teams will be multi aged and mixed. Students have submitted their two preferences for a Friday afternoon sport which students will play on the Gala Day. After considerable organisation, each student will be allocated to a preferred (either 1st or 2nd choice) sport. We will be participating in a mixture of both traditional and non-traditional sports and are leaving no stone unturned to make it fun for everyone!!! Rugby 7s Training / Trials for the upcoming Rugby 7s tournament in Term 3 will continue this term. Students need to listen out for announcements regarding the training sessions. As it is a contact sport mouthguards are compulsory for tackling. The first few training sessions will be non-contact so no need for one yet. District Sports Trials Information regarding district sport trials will be published in the school newsletter as it comes to hand. We make up just one school of more than 30 schools in our district so spaces at trials are limited to five students, maximum, per school. As such, not all students who ask to go to district trials can be considered, with preference given to 12 year old’s first (as per district school selection policy) and those with more experience including club representative teams. Please keep an eye on the newsletter to find out what trials are occurring so that you do not miss out.

FROM THE CHAPLAIN

THANK YOU FROM THE CHAPLAIN Chappy Week made my head spin! But it was great to see the level of excitement and anticipation by the kids as they arrived at school, saw the Chappy Week signage and realised they were in for a special week. This year classes again competed for the coveted Pizza Party, there was a lunchtime Disco for the P-3’s and we had inclusive Games organised for anyone who wanted to join us in the undercover area each day. The Jelly Bean Counting Competition drew hundreds of guesses, and we had a bit of fun at Parade on Friday, at Mrs Hawkins’ expense! The MATES Group joined in the fun at every level, showing great responsibility and team support, ensuring that everyone could fully enjoy the activities. It was a great week and I am so grateful to you, the school community, for your generosity and resounding support of our Chaplaincy Program, We raised $4500 that week. As the Grand Finale to Chappy Week, our first ever Trivia night was a fabulous and fun event, with tickets sold out, and many of you coming dressed in 90’s theme! I am indebted to Kathryn & Carl Quarterman who shouldered the responsibility for organising the event, and did so to perfection. Thanks too for the generosity of Remax Elevate Tarragindi, our major sponsor, Cameron Dean our “Host Extraordinaire”, those who supplied prizes for the silent auction, and so many who volunteered to help in some way. It was an excellent community event, with many people expressing a desire for it to be repeated annually. We raised over $6000 that night, making a total of around $10, 500 for the week, thanks to your generosity. I am deeply appreciative of the support shown to me during Chappy Week and since, and as a result, I will be able to continue to work at the current number of days, supporting this school community in my pastoral role as chaplain.
