Emily HendrieJewelry Designer
While working toward earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Temple University, Emily Hendrie learned a variety of skills that prepared her for any artistic career she might choose. But, little did she know that a career would soon choose her. Shortly after graduation, she was recruited in 2008 to work for Wendell August Forge as its fi rst female craftsperson. But it’s when she began designing jewelry for the company that she found her true calling. In June 2009, Emily began a line of UpCycled jewelry utilizing aluminum and bronze pieces that don’t fi nd their way into the fi nal products the other artisans would make. She reconstitutes the piece and creates her one-of-a-kind UpCycled line. Since the success of this line, Emily and her fellow jewelry artisans have introduced other lines as well, many of which are presented in the following pages. Her inspiration comes from many sources…she constantly sources decorating and design trends…but at the end of the day, each collection refl ects her creativity and her expression of what she senses women are looking for in truly unique jewelry. She describes her collections as “pieces that will appeal to any age group and can be worn for any occasion”. This past summer, due to the overwhelming response to her jewelry, Wendell August converted our workshop in our Exton, PA facility into a full-fl edged jewelry studio, where customers can see not only the ideation but the creation of all of the Wendell August jewelry they have grown to love. In her spare time, the budding designer enjoys watching movies, going out with her friends, traveling, drawing, and painting.

For almost 90 years the artisans of Wendell August have taken great pride in our unique brand of metal giftware and our pioneering Hand Hammering technique. Today, that pride remains strong and our hand hammered offering robust.
At the same time, 2011 provided us with an amazing opportunity to expand our craftsmanship and enlarge the scope of the work being done in our workshop. Thankfully, we were blessed to purchase a fantastic 30 year old pewter spin casting company that was headquartered in New York, and this spring we moved all of the equipment to Grove City, PA. Today, our craftspeople have expanded our offering and their expertise and we are now creating beautiful works of lead-free cast pewter under the line name of Old Forge Pewter.
