Wesfarmers are a significant Australian open-cut miner and a leading metallurgical coal producer and supplier of thermal coal for domestic power generation. The Curragh Mine covers an area of approximately 12,600 hectares in the coal-rich Bowen Basin of Central Queensland – 14 kilometres north-west of Blackwater and approximately 200 kilometres west of Rockhampton.
Internal External Developments Pty Ltd (IE Developments) were engaged by Wesfarmers to apply a weather, water and rust proof membrane totaling 680sqm in surface area over three sections of roof. Both the Colorbond® and Klip-Lok® roofs leaked in many places. They consist of many construction joints that required waterproofing to ensure that the facility below remains dry.
Internal External Developments Pty Ltd engaged LRM Products to supply and install a UV stable, waterproof membrane coating to the coal washing facility roof. This involved using LRM Products’ FerriSeal Quickset and Rapid Build specification products to weatherproof the roof. FerriSeal Rapid Build was used in conjunction with geotextile fabric to repair and seal the roofing joints. FerriSeal Quickset was then progressively applied (using airless spray pump) to coat all of the roof to provide a final seal.
The final product provided the client with a completely waterproof, durable and highly flexible membrane strong enough to eradicate the potential of any future leakage and was far superior in comparison to competing products due to its excellent adhesion and elastomeric properties for the concrete floors and walls.
