“Follow me,” are the words a rabbi says to a disciple. Jesus said these words to many people during his time of ministry while he walked on this earth. They followed him from Jericho to Jerusalem. They followed him into the Garden of Gethsemane. Today the resurrected Jesus still invites people with the same words, “Follow me.” Although we are thousands of miles from the Holy Land of Galilee and Jerusalem, we can learn how Jesus walked and talked from the Bible. Footsteps continued. . .

As we read the words of Scripture 2000 years later, we often lose perspective and cannot understand the context in which the words were spoken and the deeds were done. In February, I will be traveling to the Holy Land to gain the geographical perspective that Jesus and the disciples had. I hope to walk in the very places Jesus walked. I hope to ride in a boat across the Sea of Galilee. I plan to step in the water of the Jordan River. I will gaze upon the same mountains and look down into the same valleys that the disciples did when they followed Jesus. I will see with my own eyes, hear with my own ears and touch with my own hands. When I return to Indiana, I will share with the people of Wesley Chapel the insights I will have gained from walking the footsteps of Jesus.

New Sermon Series Footsteps: As we walk the journey of faith, we are to follow the footsteps of Jesus. Pastor Tony will share his

experiences from his trip to the Holy Land where he walked where Jesus actually did walk during his time on earth. This series begins Sunday, February 7.

The Way of the Cross: Jesus told us if we want to be his disciples, we must pick up the cross and follow Him. Discover the power of the cross and what it means to living as a disciple. This series begins Sunday, March 6.

Ash Wednesday There will be no Ash Wednesday service at Wesley Chapel because Pastor Tony will be in Israel. You are invited to attend the Ash Wednesday service at Edwardsville UMC on February 10 at 7:00 pm.

Prayer for General Conference The leaders of The United Methodist Church will be gathering from all over the world in May, 2016 to address the most important issues that face the church and the world. Pastor Tony Alstott and Bill Amerson from Wesley Chapel are two of the delegates who will be representing the state of Indiana. As we draw closer to the time we gather together, we ask for your prayers:

Almighty God, we the people of The United Methodist Church are Yours. We worship You as the one true God who is, who was, and who is to come. Holy is Your name.

However, we confess that sometimes our hearts are divided by the forces of this world. We also confess that we are not faithful to our membership vows to the church, especially the one that says we will uphold it with our prayers. In Your mercy, forgive us for the ways we gloss over praying for the church. Thank you that we have forgiveness of sin, even this one, because of the finished work of Jesus on the cross. His death and resurrection give us victory over sin in our lives.

We focus our prayers today on the upcoming General Conference as a way of turning away from prayerlessness to praying for our future with hope. We stand in unity with other United Methodist believers and congregations as we pray for: The leadership of the General Conference as they finish organizing the work that is to take place May 10-20. The delegates coming from the far corners of the earth to worship, pray, consider legislation, fellowship, and praise You, God, for all that is accomplished while they gather. The bishops who faithfully preside and attend the gatherings. The boards, agencies, translators, volunteers, and guests who work tirelessly attending to details. The city of Portland, Oregon, which hosts General Conference 2016, and provides a welcoming and safe environment

for thousands who attend. Hear our prayers, Holy God, today, and teach us to be faithful in praying for our church, that Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Amen.

Egg Hunt The annual egg hunt will be Saturday, March 19 at 3:00 pm. All children ages 2-5th grade are invited to attend. There will be 10,000 eggs filled with candy. There will be activities including a puppet show and a visit from the Easter Bunny. This is a rain or shine event.

We’re looking forward to seeing many of our friends and co-workers. We’re excited to see all that God is doing through our missionaries. Pray that we will be an encouragement and help to each one. Blessings in this New Year, Terry and Colleen Hawk
