Cast Biographies

Jimmy Boorum (Tony) Regional favorites: Rent (Mark), Les Miserables (Marius), Little Shop of Horrors (Seymour), Aida (Radames), Urinetown (Bobby), and I Love You Because (Austin) for which he received a New Hampshire Theatre Award nomination for Best Leading Actor in a musical. “Much love and thanks to my family and Evan!”

Charles South* (Bernardo) is honored to re-explore one of his favorite roles. He recently had the pleasure to lead as Bernardo on the International Touring Company and West End productions. Charles just spent a season at Goodspeed Musical’s in Fiddler on the Roof. Omaha Christmas Spectacular. Principal dancer. Other credits include Les Miserables, LTOTS---Seussical, Con Rep Theatre---Grease, Swing!, Carousel, Much Ado About Nothing, etc. Proud AEA member and graduate of the Hartt School. Con tres patadas!

Corinne Danielle Gonzalez (Anita) has been performing for 12 years. Favorite roles include Winifred in Once Upon a Mattress, Nina in In The Heights, and Velma in Chicago. Corinne is a recent graduate of Santa Fe College and is grateful for the opportunity to be Anita! She’d like to thank the cast, crew, directors, and her family for their patience, hard work, and passion.

Valerie Torres-Rosario (Maria) is a sophomore at the University of Florida and is elated about debuting on the Santa Fe stage in one of her dream roles. She would like to thank God, her family, friends, teachers, and everyone who helped in making this production a reality. Also, her hands are often, truly cold.

Chris Miller (Riff) Christopher began dancing at age ten in Eustis, Florida and quickly fell in love with the craft. Since arriving at Santa Fe, Chris has discovered an ability to sing and act. He has been accepted to the FSU School of Dance and it looking forward to continuing his dance career.

Jeanette Balayla (Consuela) was born and raised in Caracas, Venezuela, where she attended the Ochoa Arte en Movimiento Art School with a focus on Musical Theater. Jeanette is currently an undergraduate student at Santa Fe College majoring in Health Sciences, but with a keen interest in dance and the theater arts.

Krystal Batista (Understudy) was born in Queens, NY, moved to Gainesville from Orlando. She is a dance major at Santa Fe College and has been dancing for about 10 years. She has trained with the NYC Dance Company competition team.

Valeria Contreras (Understudy) was born in Maracay, Venezuela. Valeria is a sophomore at Santa Fe College, and is about to get her AA degree in Theatre. She dedicates all her opportunities to her parents who have been a constant support in her life. She is very grateful for this opportunity.

Alex Christophy (Baby John) is a dual enrolled senior at SF College and is thrilled to be in his first SF production. He was last seen as Mark in A Chorus Line, Tom in Tom Sawyer, and many more. He would like to thank his friends and family for all their support.

Dalton Cotter (Pepe) This is Dalton’s second production at Santa Fe. He is excited to work with the cast and crew and is incredibly grateful for the opportunity to put this production on so early in his career. He would like to thank his friends and family for all their love and support.

Jeremy Cutter (Action) is a duel enrolled senior at G.H.S. He was recently in a production of Boy’s Next Door portraying the character Barry Klemper. He has performed in the Hogtown Medieval Fair, on the Gainesville Community Playhouse stage, and performed in numerous productions at G.H.S. Jeremy has also done many miscellaneous productions around Gainesville.

Doug Diekow (Krupke and Gladhand) is an Associate Professor of Sociology at Santa Fe College and is thankful for the opportunity to be a part this production showcasing the talent of our students. He has been involved in community theatre in Gainesville for the past 22 years. Some memorable recent experiences include Moonlight and Magnolias, Blithe Spirit, Noises Off, and Born Yesterday.

Ethan Ellis (Big Deal) This is Ethan’s first performance at Santa Fe College. He would like to thank his friends and family for all of their support.

Joel Gil (Shark) Making his musical theater debut, Joel is of Dominican descent, with a background in church choir. Back in high school he was captain of the ROTC drill team and is a 2 time overall state champion and Army National champion.

Alyssa Hopkins (Velma) began dancing with Doxa Dance Studio at the age of 3 and continued with the studio until she graduated high school in 2014. She has been with the Dance Theater of Santa Fe since 2012. She is currently a scholarship student in the dance department of Santa Fe College and is a teacher at Doxa Dance Studio.

Caroline Jaeger (Jet Girl) is a Musical Theater scholarship student at Santa Fe College. She is ecstatic and extremely grateful for the opportunity to perform in West Side Story. She would like to thank God, her supportive friends and family, and her cast members for being absolutely amazing!

Christina Karafa (Jet Girl) started dancing at 14, she began here at Santa Fe her junior year of high school and has had many wonderful opportunities working with guests such as Rennie Harris, Stefanie Batten-Bland and many more. She would like to thank her family and cast members for their support.

Olivia M. Medina (Rosalia) is very enthusiastic and honored to be playing Rosalia in West Side Story! She is thankful for the amazing cast and crew who have made this astounding show possible and also thanks her friends and family for their love and support! Break-a-leg everyone!

Kiara Mitchell (Shark Girl) is enjoying her first musical theater production with Santa Fe College. She has moved from Miami, Florida to Gainesville in order to pursue a career in Dancing. Her dream is to go to the University of Florida and become a teacher one day.

Matthew Oliveira (Chino) This is Matthew’s first production at Santa Fe. His involvement in West Side Story has inspired him to become not only a singer and actor, but a dancer as well. He is so appreciative of this opportunity and has been excited to work with such an amazing production team.

Kate Osbron (Understudy) is incredibly honored to be a part of this massive production. Kate is a Theatre scholarship student here at Santa Fe studying Acting. She just recently finished the schools production of Am I Blue by Beth Henley. She would like thank all of her wonderful friends and family.

Daniel Perez (Shark) began dancing his junior year of high school but has danced socially his whole life. He was born and raised in Miami, FL and currently attends Santa Fe College under a full dance scholarship. He was also just recently accepted into FSU’s dance program to pursue his BFA.

Stephen Peters (A-rab) is excited to be a part of this production. He has performed at Gainesville High School, the Gainesville Community Playhouse, and other local venues. Many thanks to the cast, crew, Evan, Evans, the Sarah’s, his parents for putting up with him, and his friends who continually push him to higher heights.

Albin Pettersson (Diesel) from Finspång, Sweden is making the best out of his third and last show here at Santa Fe College. He would like to thank the Santa Fe Fine Arts faculty and his family for all the incredible support.

Demarquis Rembert (Shark) is a scholarship student at Santa Fe. He has been acting for 7 years and has gotten critics’ choice at District 2 Festival. He has been in many plays such as Hello Out There, Painted Rain, and Santa Fe’s very own Am I Blue. He also likes pie.

Gordon Shumway (Doc) is a proud member of the Shumway Brothers Moving Company. Notably, Gordon and his brothers often worked with Mike Allard’s Massachusetts Bay Theatre Company where Gordon performed in various productions including John Guare’s House of Blue Leaves, David Mamet’s American Buffalo, and Vaclav Havel’s Largo Desolato, among others.

Victoria Suskin (Francisca) is a dance major who loves dancing and flying in DTSF shows as well as performing in musicals at GCP such as 9 to 5 and A Chorus Line. She’s excited to be part of such a talented cast and would like to thank her family for all their love and support.

Rebecca Walker (Anybodys) This is Rebecca’s first semester involved in Santa Fe’s dance program. She is proud to take part in her fourth production here at the college. She is excited to pursue her love of dance alongside the talented cast and crew and share her passion with the audience.

Keith Watson (Shrank) is returning to the stage after a lengthy hiatus and is thrilled to be working with the great Santa Fe College Theatre department. Some of Keith’s favorite roles include the New York productions of St. John Rivers in Jane Eyre and Lon in Meet Me in St. Louis as well as numerous regional theatre, film and TV appearances. Emma Wedemeyer (Jet Girl) This is Emma’s first year and fifth performance at Santa Fe College. Growing up in a military family, Emma has moved countless times across the country and has danced along the way. She is extremely excited to work with such a phenomenal cast.

Sarah Weintraub (Jet Girl) has danced for fifteen years at DOXA Dance Studio and has been a part of the Dance Theatre of Santa Fe for two years, studying classical and contemporary ballet, modern, aerial and jazz. Sarah plans to study Microbiology at UF in order to support her love of dance.

Josh White (Shark) has always loved musical theater. He has been blessed with the opportunity to perform with such legends and with an outstanding orchestra. Not to mention the greatest stage crew around I am very proud to be a part of this production. Love my Dance Mama Sarah! Yas.

Stephanie Wiggins (Shark Girl) is a foreign student of Santa Fe College that has been part of the Dance Theatre of Santa Fe for about a year and a half. Most of her life she has danced Flamenco in Guatemala but has recently learned skills in various fields of dance at Santa Fe.

Madison Wyatt (Graziella) is thrilled to be a part of this production! Favorite roles include Belle in Beauty and the Beast and Hodel in Fiddler in the Roof. She plans on continuing her study of Musical Theatre in the fall at the New York Film Academy.

Evans Haile (Artistic/Musical Director) Currently the new General Director of Opera North in Hanover NH and Director of the Gainesville Orchestra, is proud to be Artist in Residence at Santa Fe College.

He was the Producing Director of the Cape Playhouse (America’s Oldest Professional Theatre) from 1999-2014. As Producing Director he re-opened the North Shore Music Theatre in Beverly Mass., creating its new infrastructure and programming in 2010.

At Lincoln Center, Haile produced and conducted Villa-Lobos’ Magdalena (recorded for CBS Masterworks) subsequently produced in Paris, Rio, Melbourne, and London, Rodgers & Hart’s Babes in Arms (recorded for New World Records), and Cole Porter’s Fifty Million Frenchmen (named Best Recording of the Year by USA Today). Haile’s performing edition of Fifty Million Frenchmen has been produced in London, Paris, San Francisco, and Los Angeles. Haile has been profiled twice on “CBS Sunday Morning” as well as being a regular guest on National Public Radio. He produced the Lincoln Center Tribute to American Express, and co-founded the award winning New Amsterdam Theater Company at New York’s historic Town Hall. He produced and hosted “Toast of the Town” on National Public Radio for 5 years. Throughout his career Haile has received international acclaim as a host, producer, conductor and performer. International achievements include supervising and conducting the Australian premiere of Villa-Lobos’ Magdalena and three concert tours of Russia with the Moscow Philharmonic. Haile has been a regular Guest Conductor of the Orchestra of the Deutsche Opera, and the Boston POPS, American orchestras and opera companies include Seattle, Milwaukee, Detroit, Miami, Boston, Pacific Symphony, Tulsa, Baltimore, New Jersey, and Grant Park to name a few.

He joined the SF teaching staff as a Music Theatre Professor in the Fall of 2014.

Sarah Harkness-Sebastian (Choreographer) serves on the Dance Faculty of Santa Fe College (MFA, The Florida State University; BA, Loyola Marymount University). From 2002-2008, Sarah founded and directed Meh-Tropolis Dance Theatre, in Los Angeles, and worked for Sherry Lansing, former CEO of Paramount Pictures. Directed/Choreographed productions include A Chorus Line, South Pacific, A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Performances include “Maria”, Sound of Music; “Minnie Fay”, Hello Dolly; “Zaneeta”, Music Man; and “Alice”, Closer. Sarah has worked with Martin Sheen, Stockard Channing, and Oberlin Dance Company, and with choreographers Lynda Davis, Alan Danielson, Michael Foley, Gerri Houlihan, Andrew Noble, Dan Wagoner, and Jawole Zollar. She was Assistant Director and Faculty for the Suzanne Farrell Workshop and FSU Summer Intensive. Internationally, she attended the Oxford School of Drama, performed in the Montpellier Dance Festival, and taught for Caxton College, in Spain. Sarah was Artist in Residence at the Lillian E. Smith Center, in Clayton, Georgia and coordinated the 2012-2014 Florida Dance Association’s Young Dancers Workshops.

Sara Lopez (Co-Choreographer) is from Colombia, and is a Dance major at Santa Fe College. For fourteen years she belonged to “Ballet Olga Lucia” located in Manizales, Colombia, where she inclined towards Latin Dance. She started teaching Salsa, Mambo, Bachata, Pachanga, Jazz and Ballet to beginners and intermediate levels. In 2012 she moved to the United States to pursue her dance career where she attended Broadway Dance Center in New York for a summer intensive program. In 2014 she became a member of Dance Theater of Santa Fe where she choreographed “Mambo Lupita”, for Room to Dance. She is a Co-Choreographer of”Mambo” in West Side Story.

Raven Moore (Dance Rehearsal Assistant) Born in Chicago, IL raised in Houston, TX. Raven began her dance career at La Porte High School on the schools drill team. After graduating, she decided to continue her dance journey at Santa Fe College, where she received a full scholarship. While at Santa Fe, she became one of the co-founders of the Levitations dance crew. She currently at the University of South Florida where she plans to graduate with her BFA in Spring 2016.

Elizabeth Ann Reynolds (Lighting Designer) earned an MFA in Lighting Design from University of Florida in 2003, and a BA in Theater from University Wisconsin Stevens Point in 2000. Elizabeth enjoyed many years of freelance across Florida before settling down in Gainesville as Santa Fe College’s staff Lighting Designer. Here, she designs for theater, dance and events, and also teaches lighting design, lighting technology, theater history and stagecraft. Elizabeth enjoys the atmosphere of hands-on learning and student involvement at Santa Fe. Elizabeth also designs for Keith Watson Events, and is an associate at SKDesign and Consulting. Owen Reynolds (Technical Director) joined the Fine Arts faculty in 2003. He holds a Bachelors of Fine Arts degree from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. Mr. Reynolds also completed the Master of Fine Arts program at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. While attending graduate school he was a member of the professional Hilbery Repertory Theatre Company. Before joining Santa Fe, Mr. Reynolds spent two years with University of Massachusetts-Amherst as faculty Technical Director. Current and recent memberships include United States Institute for Theatre Technology (USITT), South Eastern Theatre Conference (SETC), North Eastern Theatre Conference (NETC), Wisconsin Theatre Festival, Kennedy Center-American College Theatre Festival (KC-ACTF) and the American Welding Society.

Zackery Ryan (Costume Designer) is thrilled to be back at Santa Fe College. His background is very diverse having returned to Gainesville after fifteen years of providing make-up and costumes to burlesque dancers and drag performers in Los Angeles. He is a graduate of both Santa Fe College and University of Florida. Costume and make-up credits include P.K.Yonge: The Crucible, Hairspray, To Kill A Mockingbird, Peter Pan and Wendy, and The Craving; Santa Fe College: Travelin’, The Dog Lady & The Cuban Swimmer, Ten Minute Play Festival, Voyage Imaginairre, numerous Dance Theatre Santa Fe shows, The President’s Dinner, and has provided make-up designs for The Greed Project; The Acrosstown Repertory Theatre: Bug, Hunter Gather’s, The Foreigner; University of Florida (Wardrobe Head/First Hand) Ajax in Iraq, Blood Wedding; and last, but certainly not least, Hippodrome: Avenue Q (Puppet Wrangler), Zombietown (Make-Up Designer and Co-Costume Designer), Slasher, The Winter Wonderettes, and Vanya, Sonia, Masha, and Spike (Costume Designer). Lynn Sandefur-Gardner (Vocal Director) is currently the director of vocal and choral activities at Santa Fe College. She received her Master of Music Education from the University of Florida and her Bachelor of Music Education from Stetson University. She taught for many years in the Alachua County school system as Choral Director, instructor and coordinator. She was twice named Alachua County High School Teacher of the Year and served as District Chairman for the Florida Vocal Association. Mrs. Sandefur has adjudicated many festivals and conducted master classes throughout the state of Florida. Mrs. Sandefur’s choirs, ensembles and students have consistently received top honors and awards at state and national festivals and competitions. Mrs. Sandefur has been a featured soloist with the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra. Leading roles include Puccini’s Madama Butterfly, Lil’ Abner and Finian’s Rainbow. She has directed and performed in numerous productions including Bach’s Magnificat, Vivaldi’s Gloria, Handel’s Messiah, Oklahoma, Wizard of Oz, Finian’s Rainbow, The Fantasicks, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, Camelot and Cinderella. She served as Music Director for several years for the University of Florida’s Summer Musical Productions. Mrs. Sandefur is a member of the Florida Music Educators Association (FMEA), Florida Vocal Association (FVA), American Choral Director’s Association (ACDA), and the National Association for Music Education (NAfME).

Kevin Terry (Sound Designer) graduated from Full Sail University in February 2002 with an Associates of Science in Recording Arts. Since then he has worked at Skylab Recording Studios in Gainesville, FL as a Senior Engineer. There he has recorded and produced countless albums for bands, solo artists, and voiceover talents. On March 17th, 2014 Kevin began work with the Santa Fe College Fine Arts Hall and started a career in live theater sound, something he started doing in high school from 6th – 12th grade.

Sarah White (Production/Stage Manager) is the Stage Manager at the Fine Arts Hall at Santa Fe College. Before coming to Santa Fe Sarah was the Production Manager and Director of Operations for the School of Theatre and Dance at the University of Florida for 8 years. Sarah received her BFA in Theatre from the University of Florida and her MFA in Theatre from Florida State University. Sarah was the Faculty Advisor for the Florida Players, UF’s student-run theatre company for 7 years. Sarah has been involved in the arts for many years and has had the opportunity to work for The Hippodrome Theatre, the College of

Central Florida, Tallahassee Community College, the St. Augustine Amphitheatre, and the UF Performing Arts. International credits include her work at Papagou Theatre in Athens, Greece and Anargyrious Theatre on the Greek Island of Spetses. Her most wonderful work however has been being the mother of two fantastic girls.
