Wabash Christian Village in Carmi is one of the

organizations that we support. Quoting from one

of their newsletters-" They (our residents) come to

us during some of the most vulnerable stages of

their lives-due to illness, after a fall, while living with

memory loss, or simply not able to live alone. They

are uncertain about what their future will

bring. WBCV restores their hope through the

loving hand of God and they are comforted by your

generosity and acts of kindness."

10 Minutes Almost every day since Whitney, Cadyn, Titus, Callen, Cora and I arrived I have turned to my wife and told her how happy I

am that God brought us to West Village. From the leadership of the church, which is chasing after God and already

challenging me, too the numerous people that have already adopted my children in with open arms, we have felt at home.

And as I set in my office this morning all I can think about is how to make that same feeling possible for those in our

community that don’t already know the love of Christ and His church.

Hospitality, in the original Greek language is the combination of two words. The first is philo which means brotherly love,

and the second is xenos which means stranger. When God calls on us to be people that practice hospitality (Romans 13, 1

Timothy 5) it is not a call to love one another. That is important but being hospitable is about loving the strangers that come

through our doors as though they are our own family.

This brings me to my strange title for this article. According to many church leaders we have 10 minutes. 10 minutes before a

new visitor has already decided if they will be coming back. 10 minutes from the time that they pull into the parking lot

before they have made up their minds about who we are. In that amount of time they will park their cars, walk in our doors,

be greeted in the foyer, and maybe make it into sanctuary. They will likely have made up their minds before worship ever

begins, before the first word of the sermon is uttered.

This is a little terrifying, but here is the beautiful truth that comes with it. No matter where people come from, their greatest

desire is for connection. They need Jesus, but they will start with us, and if West Village can welcome in every new visitor

the way they have my family, then those 10 minutes will turn into a lifetime of love of fellowship here at WVCC.
