About Westwind School of Aeronautics Westwind has been training pilots since 1985. With our fleet of 25 new
aircraft and flight simulators (including a Boeing 737-800), our
experienced Flight Instructors, and our modern facilities, you can be
assured of receiving the highest quality of Professional Flight
Instruction while you are attending school here.
The training Westwind
School of Aeronautics
provides is recognized
by airlines from around
the world. Many of
our graduates are
enjoying successful
careers flying airliners
and corporate jets as a
result of the excellent training received at Westwind School of
Aeronautics.
While some schools will train you to achieve the minimum training
necessary to obtain your license, Westwind School of Aeronautics
trains you to be the safest, most proficient pilot you can be, which gives
you a better opportunity for a successful career.
Our Training Airport and Area
Westwind School of Aeronautics is ideally
located at Deer Valley Airport (KDVT) in
Phoenix, Arizona. The volume of local air
traffic and superb year-round weather make
the Phoenix valley an excellent location for
flight training. Phoenix is one of the few
locations in the United States where you can
fly almost every day of the year.
While Westwind School of Aeronautics is based in the Phoenix
Metropolitan Area, students conduct
operations throughout the entire
southwestern United States. Numerous
training activities are flown in Southern
California, where students gain vital
experience operating in instrument
meteorological conditions.
The diverse nature of the terrain found in the Southwestern United
States enables students to experience a wide variety of flight
conditions; coastal flying, mountain flying, instrument meteorological
conditions, high density altitude - it's all part of the Westwind
experience.
Deer Valley Airport is controlled and radar equipped. The airport has
several published instrument approaches and is operational 24 hours a
day. Deer Valley Airport has two parallel runways, minimizing
departure and arrival delays often found at many other airports.
More than a dozen other airports are available for student training
within 35 miles of Deer Valley Airport, including Phoenix Sky Harbor
International Airport.
Our Training Airport and Area continued
Deer Valley Airport is capable of accommodating all segments of civil
aviation except commercial passenger service. The Airport offers a complete
range of services including fueling, avionics repair, maintenance, parts,
flight training, new and used aircraft sales, aircraft rentals, a pilot shop and a
restaurant. It has two fixed-based operators and is home to more than 1,277
aircraft.
With more than 376,634 takeoffs and landings in 2008, it is the 20th busiest
of all U.S. airports and the 2nd busiest general aviation airport in the nation.
Phoenix Deer Valley Airport is a vital component of the city of Phoenix
Airport System.
The Airport encompasses approximately 914 acres of property and is located
15 miles north of downtown Phoenix near the intersection of Interstate 17
and Loop 101. South side access is from Deer Valley Road. North side
access is via Airport Road and Seventh Street.
The Airport is owned and operated by the city of Phoenix.
Aircraft and Simulators
Westwind School of Aeronautics currently operates a fleet of 25
aircraft and 3 flight simulators.
Of these aircraft, 22 are year 2000 models or newer aircraft. By using
newer aircraft, our aircraft require far less maintenance than what one
would see with an older fleet. Three new aircraft have been ordered
and will arrive approximately September 2009. An additional 3-
Cessna’s with Garmin G1000 Digital Panels and a Piper Seminole are
also available for lease.
When maintenance is required it is performed on premises, by a highly
skilled staff of 15 A&P mechanics and avionics technicians.

Aircraft Maintenance
Westwind School of Aeronautics
maintains its aircraft to the highest of
