The Exmouth Game Fishing Club (EGFC) invites you to Western Australia’s greatest fishing event - GAMEX. Now in it’s 52nd year, GAMEX is recognised by Tourism Western Australia as the state’s major fishing tournament, attracting local, national and international competitors and spectators. Exmouth is one of the hottest game and sport fishing destinations on the planet, with over 50 different game fish species on offer, including all six Australian billfish species, and GAMEX has been responsible for more state, national and world records than any other Australian fishing tournament.Large and small vessels can participate in GAMEX, with experienced and novice anglers fishing side by side. All fishing areas are close to launching facilities, moorings or marina pens, and the wide range of species and tournament sections ensure everyone has a great chance of winning some fantastic prizes. GAMEX’s early autumn timeslot typically sees light winds and small seas, however, Exmouth lies within a cyclone prone region, so the EGFC recommends all teams have complete insurance, including travel insurance, in case of cancellation. In the event of a cyclone warning or a severe weather forecast, the Exmouth Game Fishing Club reserves the right to suspend or cancel the tournament at short notice. GAMEX PRO CLINICGAMEX 2020 kicks off Friday, March 13th with a night of free fishing clinics presented by local and visiting pro anglers. These hands-on clinics offer an invaluable opportunity to learn the latest techniques from some of the most knowledgable and experienced anglers in the country. Subjects will cover a range of fishing styles including billfishing, light tackle sportfishing and new fishing technology (visit our website: www.egfc.com.au to view subjects and guest speakers). This is a free event for competitors and the general public alike, but dinner bookings are essential. Please call the EGFC Clubhouse for bookings on Ph: (08) 9949 4567.
COMPULSORY BRIEFING SESSIONAt least one crew member from each team must attend the Briefing Session at the EGFC Clubhouse, Saturday, March 14th from 5pm for rules briefing, last minute updates, tournament bags and boat auction. That person must register with the EGFC officials upon arrival. All teams must register before 6pm or penalties will apply.
RULES & ENTRIESRules and online entry can be found at www.egfc.com.au. Please be aware GAMEX rules have changed from 2019. Your entry fee includes a tournament shirt, team bag full of goodies, team meal vouchers for the Briefing Session, mid-week Exmouth Escape Resort Social Night and GWN7 Presentation Night, and event information. This totals more than your entry fee. Please note, late entries may not be able to receive a tournament shirt.
BOAT AUCTIONThe GAMEX Boat Auction will be held for all participating boats on the briefing night where spectators or competitors can bid on the team they think will win the Champion Boat Overall and Champion Boat Tag & Release Billfish sections. All teams must nominate on their entry form which boat auction pool they wish to enter. This is for the boat auction only. The main boat auction will be preceded by a silent auction. RADIO COMMUNICATIONS, SKEDS & SAFETYAll boats must be fitted with an operational VHF radio. Channel VHF 21 is for main communications. Alternative channels are to be used for boat to boat chit-chat.Teams must log on and off each day by hailing SANTOS Radio Base. Upon log off, those boats which have raised billfish will be asked to provide a sked for the day which must consist of billfish raised, hooked and tagged.If you decide to have a day off or late start, you MUST notify SANTOS Radio Base or call Kathy Ryan on Ph: 9949 1086 so that we know where you are. If you plan an early start, please notify someone of your intentions and location. SAFETY IS THE MOST IMPORTANT ASPECT OF OUR TOURNAMENT.
WELCOME TOTAGSGAMEX is a WAGFA sanctioned tournament with all fishing to be conducted in accordance with GFAA rules. Billfish must be tagged with NSW Fisheries billfish tags only. Sharks must be tagged with NSW Fisheries shark tags only. Plastic dart tags are not to be used. Please ensure the correct tag is used or your catch will be disqualified.NSW Fisheries billfish tags are available for purchase from the EGFC Weigh Master for $30 for five tags. Replacements for tags expended during GAMEX will be issued on a one for one basis at no extra cost.
DIGITAL CATCH REPORTINGGAMEX 2020 will use the ARFF Tackle Box phone app for logging of all catches. The ARFF Tackle Box app can be downloaded from Google Play or the Apple App Store, and competitors are advised to download the app prior to the Tournament Briefing night, Saturday March 14th.All teams MUST log their tag & release catches on the ARFF Tackle Box app as soon as possible after the fish is tagged for tournament points to apply. Points for fish weighed-in will be issued at the Weigh Station. Training on how to use the app will be provided at the Tournament Briefing.Fully completed tag cards for all tag & release catches logged on the ARFF Tackle Box app must also be presented to the Northbank Boats Weigh Station at the EGFC Clubhouse during tournament weigh in times. Failure to provide a fully completed tag card will see that catch disqualified.
LINES OUTNo fish are to be hooked after lines out each day (see schedule of events for lines in/out times). Radio silence is to be observed for the final 15 minutes of each fishing day for any hook-ups to be reported to SANTOS Radio Base before lines out, but all tags must be logged and all captures must reach the Northbank Boats Weigh Station prior to close each day.
WEIGH STATIONThe Northbank Boats Weigh Station is located at the EGFC Clubhouse. All fish to be weighed must be brought in on the day of capture, and must be in edible condition to be accepted for tournament points. All captures must reach the Northbank Boats Weigh Station prior to close each day, unless otherwise arranged with the Weigh Master under exceptional circumstances only. Tag cards for the first three days of the tournament must be lodged no later than 6pm Tuesday March 17th. Tag cards for the last three days of the tournament must be lodged by the close of tournament.Close of tournament is 8pm on Friday March 20th. No captures or tag cards will be accepted for tournament points after this time.
SALTY BONES GYOTAKU FISH PRINTSGAMEX 2020 will feature special guest, Salty Bones Gyotaku Fish Prints carrying out live artworks each night on fish brought to the Northbank Boats Weigh Station. Competitors can elect to have their catch immortalised with one of these incredible artworks, and some works will be up for auction at the GWN7 Presentation Night.See our website: www.egfc.com.au for more information and pricing details.
PRIZESPrizes will be awarded for the winner and runner-up in each section on the GWN7 Presentation Night. Mystery prizes will also be awarded. These are to be collected each night from the EGFC Clubhouse merchandise desk. Nightly raffles will be held at the clubhouse. GUEST MEALSCompetitor’s guests will be asked to pay the cost of their own meals. Extra meal tickets for the Briefing Session, mid-week Exmouth Escape Resort Social Night, and GWN7 Presentation Night can be purchased at the clubhouse (subject to availability). Meal tickets for the Exmouth Escape Resort Social Night and GWN7 Presentation Night are $40/adult and $20/child under 16.
