Many new copper (+ gold)
discoveries in 2011 & 2012
• Discovery of DeGrussa (Sandfire Resources)
Cu–Au deposit in Proterozoic rift sequence near
Archean Yilgarn basement was a game changer
• 29 copper discoveries in 2011; 18 so far in 2012

Total Foreign
Investment:
A$54.9 billion
Japan-Australia Minerals Investment Seminar, 2012
WA Government supports
new resource investment
Two strategies:
• Streamlining approvals processes for
exploration and development
• $20 million per year Exploration Incentive
Scheme (including a $5 million per year
drilling subsidy)
16
Japan-Australia Minerals Investment Seminar, 2012
100% coverage of airborne
magnetics and radiometrics
• Prior to EIS, 30% of WA did
not have modern ≤ 400 metre
airborne magnetics and
radiometrics
• In last 3 years, many 200 m
surveys flown
• Will finish entire State in 2012
