Registrations are still being taken for the Summit to be held in Topeka, KS, January 23 and 24, 2019, at the Topeka Capitol Plaza! e 2019 Mid-America Workforce Summit is packed with informative presentations regarding the state of the workforce and the changes we can make for the better. Brian Dabson, the Keynote Speaker, will explore the issues and challenges that hinder the progress made to achieve economic opportunity in rural regions and the ways in which technology and globalization have affected industries and labor markets. Steve Geiber, Council on Developmental Disabilities, will facilitate a panel that is focused on improving the transition from school to work, with a focus on competitive, integrated employment, for students with disabilities. Tyler Tenbrink, Labor Economist, Department of Labor, will present the latest statistics measuring the health of the regional labor market including job growth and industry performance. e Kansas Enrichment Network is sponsoring a presentation, hosted by the Kansas City STEM Alliance, that will discuss how specific initiatives can help fully realize rural region’s potential by building capacity and bringing existing businesses to scale. e session will showcase ways in which the Alliance engages area industries through financial support, associate engagement, event hosting, and strategic thought leadership. A celebration banquet will conclude the first day of the Summit and feature a presentation by the president of the Midwestern Higher Education Compact, Susan Heegaard. e banquet will close with an award presentation by the Kansas Department of Commerce and the Kansas Department of Education. e second day will feature a 2019 Legislative Update, the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) presentation, a look at the Veterans’ Employment and Training Services, and the USDA workforce panel. e agenda and presenter information are available online at www.MidAmericaWorkforceSummit.com. WKMA staff continues working hard to finalize events, presentations, demos and giveaways, and are excited to announce the first ever Agri-Business Hiring Event. is event will be held on Friday, March 22, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and is being coordinated by KANSASWORKS and Kansas WorkforceONE. e Mobile Workforce Center will be on site to assist in matching those seeking employment with those exhibitor businesses seeking employees. Any exhibitors wishing to participate in this event are encouraged to contact Tucky Allen, Business Services Director/Rapid Response Coordinator at 316-303-2906 or tucky@kansasworkforceone. org with their specific hiring needs. is is a tremendous opportunity for exhibitors, and they are strongly encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity to find employees with specialized agriculture-related skills and experience. Mid-America Workforce Summit

2019 Mid-America Workforce SummitIt’s not too late to register for the Mid-America Workforce Summit! Registrations are still being taken for the Summit to be held in Topeka, KS, January 23 and 24, 2019, at the Topeka Capitol Plaza!
