Good Evening,

Will try to bring you up to date as to our response to recent Flash Flooding in Western PA.

Today we had cleaning buckets and Hygiene kits sent to Meyersdale in Somerset County.  These will be distributed through the local UM Church and community agencies.  They will be capturing information to see if any further response will be necessitated.

Tomorrow, through coordination with Katie Peterson (East Brook Mission Barn) and the help of VOAD partners we will be moving cleaning buckets and hygiene kits to the following areas - Washington Twp., Fayette County, Brownsville, Fayette County,  for distribution through the county EMS and local VFD.

We will be staging buckets for distribution when needed by the community in Turtle Creek/Pitcarin - Alleghaney County, Mahaffey-Clearfield County, and replenishing supplies in some other locations. We also are working with Salvation Army Disaster Services in Pittsburgh to keep supplied with cleaning buckets.

There remain concerns for Derry and Derry Township in Westmoreland County because of concerns of a possible dam breach.

Also know of other areas affected by flooding that we have not had contact with.  We will make every effort to be available as these needs arise with Relief supplies or help when needed.

All ERT's should stand ready and prepared when needed.  Please be reminded of the ERT class this Saturday at Crossroads Bridgeville Campus.  The registration is on WPAUMC.ORG

Had conversation with Red Cross and Salvation Army to make sure we are working together to cover the situations.

We are monitoring the situation in several other areas and waiting further direction and request both as the UM's and the VOAD.

I have spent most of the day in conversation with areas that are prone to flooding.

Guess what will happen in the upcoming days remains to be seen.

A WAY FORWARD TASK FORCEJohnstown District Listening Post #2

6:30-8:30 PM and Sunday, October 21 – Grove Avenue UMC, 2:30-4:30 PM. A Way Forward: The final report of the Commission on a Way Forward was officially released yesterday in all four official languages of the General Conference: English, French, Portuguese and Swahili. The report will be presented to the 2019 special General Conference.

As our denomination moves toward a special session of the General Conference called by the Council of Bishops for February 23-26, 2019, Bishop Cynthia Moore-Koikoi has established a Way Forward Task Force to provide ways for individuals in the Western PA Annual Conference to hear accurate information about the Commission on a Way Forward's work and express their thoughts, hopes, dreams and concerns about the Council of Bishops' recommendation of the One-Church Model. The Special Session of the General Conference was called to receive and act on a report from the 32-member Commission on a Way Forward, which was authorized by General Conference 2016 and appointed by the Council of Bishops to examine paragraphs in The Book of Discipline concerning human sexuality, propose possible revisions, and explore options to strengthen the unity of the church. See the Commission on a Way Forward's report to the General Conference in English here. The WPAUMC Way Forward Task Force has planned 20 “Listening Post” events (two   in each of our 10 Districts) to allow clergy and laity to meet in-person and engage in facilitated, small group discussions around a series of specific questions (e.g., What hopes do you have concerning the One Church Plan?).

Please Register for a Listening Post Event

Delegates Discuss Way Forward: Dozens of General Conference delegates recently gathered in Nashville to build relationships and discuss plans for The United Methodist Church’s future.

UNITED METHODIST HUMAN SERVICES5 X 1000 – A small way to make a big difference!

You can spend your hard-earned money a lot of different ways. We all want to do good with our money, but sometimes there isn’t much left at the end of the month.

What if you could make a difference without breaking the bank?

$5 doesn’t seem like much, right? But just imagine if you could multiply it by 1000. The impact would be undeniable! We’re looking for 1000 people to commit to changing lives.

Your $5 monthly gift will help put shoes on children’s feet and food on the tables of families and senior citizens. You’ll help provide hats, gloves, diapers, hygiene kits, and necessary care items to those who need them. You’ll help empower people struggling in economic instability to build brighter, more secure futures for themselves and their families. This just might be the best $5 you spend each month! Visit umhumanservices.org/5x1000 to start changing lives today!

CLEANING BUCKETS NEEDED!Because of the widespread flooding that we are receiving throughout Southwestern Pennsylvania, specifically around Pittsburgh suburbs, we have exhausted our cleaning buckets at the Eastbrook mission barn.

On behalf of the disaster response ministries and the Eastbrook Mission Barn, I am issuing an urgent request for cleaning buckets and hygiene kits; with priority being placed on cleaning buckets.

If each district would be able to collect 100 cleaning buckets this would alleviate concerns about having enough supplies in this initial response.

Funds for cleaning buckets could also be forwarded to the Eastbrook mission barn. Funds for general disaster response should be forwarded to the conference treasure. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to call 814-442-5899.

Thank you for everything you are doing and for all of your support, we continue to seek God’s will as we help those who have been affected by natural disaster.Peace and blessings, Calvin CookWPA Disaster Response Ministries

Saturday, September 29, 7:30 pm at Brethren Church, Conemaugh, PA

Living Free is a Faith Based Course to help people with Addiction Problems

To Learn More Click on: https://www.livingfreeministries.net/

We have a motto: To Inform, Teach, & Train willing people to effectively fight the Drug War in our Communities. And the way we seek to do that is 4-fold:1] Get our teaching material out to the public to help people deal with substance abuse.2] Counsel or train families who are struggling with the drug problem.3] Bring awareness to communities of the resources available to overcome the lasting pain & curse of opioids & heroine.4] Work with Churches & Community organizations to offer Bible oriented answers to being set free. We specialize in having seminars thru the LIVINGFREE Community ministry and their workbooks. We then encourage churches to due various Bible studies/small groups on other life-controlling issues like: anger, depression, gambling, pornography & others.  We are also conducting "Drug Healing Rallies" in various parts of our area where Recovering Addicts speak of the terrible trials they went thru and How the Lord brought them out of their addictions.

So we can meet with church leaders, Christian Counselors, or just concerned community persons who wish to band together to fight this terrible people/family ruining problem.

The battle is a "stronghold" in the mind [2Cor 10:5] and the People of God led by the Spirit of God can bring victory for those who long for it!

A message from Gary Hale, Evangelist

Greetings to all,

I have great news to tell you. All the bands and speakers are lined up and committed to the Miracle Crusade at the Point Stadium September 14, 15, and 16. It was all God that brought all this together. We give him all the credit.

The schedule of events is as follows:

Friday Opening at 5:30 pm, Chrissy Krumenacker will be leading us in worship as people are coming into the stadium.

At 6 pm, Tom McGough of Cornerstone Network will be our MC for the night. The Mayor of Johnstown told me he would speak briefly welcoming us to this place.

The praise band from Crossroads Church in Ebensburg will lead us in worship to start the night off. Along with the praise band, we will have Titus ll from North Carolina, as special guests. They are a prophetic worship, dance and ministry team. There will be 12 members who are making the journey to Johnstown to minister to us. They feel strongly that the Lord is sending them here to be part of the crusade. We are looking forward to their ministry.

As this ministry winds down, Pastor Kendale Bellamy will be the next minister bringing us a powerful word from the Lord.

Page 9: WESTERN PA UNITED METHODIST CHURCH ... - wpa …wpa-email.brtapp.com/.../newweeklynewsletter091218.docx  · Web viewCan you put the word out, I am coming back to Pa, for a visit

The praise band will come back for several songs while we have a time for people to sow a seed or offering into this ministry. Remember there is free admission to all.

Then Pastor Kevin Stock will give a testimony of how the Lord raised his son from the dead back to life. When Pastor Kevin is done, Evangelist, Gary Hale will have an altar call for those who want to give their hearts to Jesus and be prayed with.

SaturdayToday from 3:30 until 4 pm, Clouds of Grace will usher in the presence of the Lord as people come into the stadium.

At 4 pm, Tom McGough will be our Master of Ceremonies if he is able to make it here in time from Pittsburgh.

We will ask for testimonies of those healed on Friday night. Then the praise band, led by Will Pinos from Grace United Methodist Church in Indiana, PA, will lead us in praise and worship of Jesus. We will also have the pleasure of having Titus ll minister to us again during the worship time.

Pastor Kendale Bellamy will again bring a powerful word to us.

Following Pastor Bellamy’s word, the praise band will again come back as we take up an offering for the ministry.

Evangelist, Gary Hale will conclude with a message and have an altar call for those wanting to receive Jesus and be prayed for.

SundayBeginning at 1 pm and continuing until 2 pm, the Classic Clowns of Johnstown will be greeting people with their special kind of joy as everyone enters into the crusade grounds. There will be gifts for the children as they come in.

Kathy and Wally Fieser, along with others, will also usher in the Spirit as people come into the stadium for the final day of the crusade.

Our MC for Sunday will be Jim Bickford.

We will again ask those who have a testimony of what God did for them in the past 2 days to share with us.

Next, the Power of Praise Choir from Mount Sinai Institutional Baptist Church, lead by Darlene Weatherly, will lead us in praise and worship of Jesus.

Pastor Kendale Bellamy will again bring us the word of God to feast on.

Following Pastor Bellamy’s word, the choir will come on as we take an offering for the ministry.

Evangelist, Gary Hale will finish the day with an altar call for salvation and healing.

To all who want to be a part of the team you are welcome to let me know by email, [email protected] or my cell 814-619-8257.

Any church is welcome to set up a table to invite new believers to come and worship at their church. It is very important to get these new believers and those who recommitted their lives to Jesus to become welcomed into the fellowship of believers.

Pastors, we may be in need of more Bibles. If you would like to donate New Testament or complete Bibles in one of the modern translations for example, New Living Translation, we could use them. If they are not used, we would make sure they would be returned to you.

Thanks,Evangelist Gary Hale

An invitation to Johnstown District Pastors and Church Leaders:Learn Basic New Testament Greek

Earn 7 CEU’s for your Continuing Education Requirement learning an essential language skill for understanding the Scriptures. The entire New Testament was written in the Greek language, and a vast body of early Christian literature was produced in following generations. This is why nearly every seminary and many Christian colleges offer courses in Greek, to better equip Christian leaders to study the Scriptures in depth and offer the fruit of these studies to God’s people. Some pastors did not have the opportunity to take Greek, and others would benefit by a refresher. You now have opportunity to pick up the language, fulfill Continuing Education requirements, and have a time of learning and fellowship with other interested Christians. If you have eligibility for Continuing Education Scholarship, most of your expenses should be covered.Specifics: Instructor: Dr. David Stains, retired pastor and instructor in various languages, also in international settings.Classes: We plan to meet in 30 sessions between Mid-September and late May. PEACEBUILDING

Faith & Facts: Preach with JusticeWhat do the facts say?

- Conflict theorists often use three terms: Peacekeeping, Peacemaking, and Peacebuilding- PEACEKEEPING means keeping people from attacking each other by placing neutral soldiers

– peacekeepers – from the UN or a group of neutral nations. The soldiers do nothing to settle the conflict.

- PEACEMAKING is the process of forging a settlement between the disputing parties.- PEACHBUILDING is a process that facilitates the establishment of durable peace to prevent

the recurrence of violence by addressing root causes and effects of conflict reconciliation, institution building, and political as well as economic transformation.

What do you say?Take Action for justice…Support and promote Peace with Justice Sunday, one of the six special Sundays that provides funding for peace with justice programs in your Annual Conference and the Church and Society Peace with Justice Program.
