Polynuclear Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAH) by SW-846 Method 8270
A level II data package was requested from ALS. The data validation was conducted in general accordance with the EPA “Contract Laboratory Program National Functional Guidance for Superfund Organic Methods Data Review” dated June 2008 and “Contract Laboratory Program National Functional Guidelines for Inorganic Superfund Data Review” dated January 2010. The Attachment contains the results summary sheets with any hand-written qualifiers applied during data validation.

2. Holding Times
The samples were analyzed within the required holding time limit of 14 days from sample collection to extraction and 40 days from extraction to analysis.
3. Blanks
Method blanks were analyzed with the PAH analyses. The method blanks contained no detections of target compound above the reporting limits.

The surrogate recovery results were within the laboratory-established quality control (QC) limits except for as follows. In a few instances, one of the three surrogates was outside QC limits. No qualifications are required for one surrogate being outside QC limits.
5. Laboratory Control Sample (LCS) Results
The LCS recoveries were within laboratory QC limits.
6. Matrix Spike (MS) and Matrix Spike Duplicate (MSD) Results
A site-specific MS and MSD were not analyzed with this work order for SVOCs; therefore, matrix interferences could not be evaluated using MS/MSDs. For the MS and MSDs that were analyzed, the percent recoveries and relative percent differences (RPD) were with QC limits.
7. Field Duplicate Results
Sample WCR-008-26-062-FD6 is a field duplicate of sample WCR-008-26-062-6. RPDs were calculated for detected PAHs. RPDs ranged from 9 to 67 percent. Three of the RPDs exceeded a standard QC limit of 50 RPD indicating some minor heterogeneity.
8. Overall Assessment
The PAH data are acceptable for use based on the information received.
