This month WPW presents Southern HemisphereWrestling Alliances two time WPW Manager ofthe Year, Ebenizah J. Klaus.

When I was asked to write an editorial for WPW, Iwas at first disgusted. Why should I grace these

pages with my words of wisdom when you, thereader, will dismiss them offhand like the ignorant,mouth-breathing, slovenly resource drainers thatyou are. But then I realised that this petty littlenewsletter is not only read by you, the hordes ofmoronic miscreants that still live with theirmothers, afraid of the real world, but also by thosewhom are part of the Western Australian wrestlingindustry. So I shall use this opportunity toenlighten you all of my plans for 2011.

Last year was a dark time for Ebenizah J. Klaus. The Muscle Militia rebelled against my renownedleadership abilities, turned on myself and began

pandering to the useless rabble of fans, instead ofworking toward my goals. The $oldiers of Fortune,

just as we were becoming the greatest stable ofwrestlers Australia has ever known, disbanded due

to the pathetic whims of the SHWA Commissioner,K.J. Rollins. That incompetent, idiotic, inbred, insane imbecile is wholly responsible for thisoutcome. How DARE you, on a whim purely to irkmyself, create a match where, if my clients lost, the$oldiers of Fortune would disband. The refereecheated, our opponents cheated, the onlyhonourable men in that very arena on that fatefulnight was myself, Avalanche and Elliot Forbes. But, for K.J. Rollins, his puerile attempts at makingthe blessed life of Ebenizah J. Klaus miserablehave backfired. How, you may ask? When onedecides to wage war against a man of my power

and financial standing, they must realise that war iswon by those with the most resources. That man isme.

You see, dear gullible, gutless, geeky readers, when I bear a grudge against an individual, the

proverbial gloves are off. 2011 shall be known asthe year of Ebenizah J. Klaus and the only man Iconsider my equal, Elliot Forbes. Now that the$oldiers of Fortune are no more, I no longer have tomanage three wrestlers. Now, I manage ElliotForbes, the smartest, richest, most cunning wrestlerI have ever had the privilege to be in their corner.

Now that we are a focused, superior team, it is time

to enact our plans for SHWA. Mark my words, forI announce, nay PROMISE that by years end

Elliot Forbes will reign as SHWA champion. He isthe only wrestler capable of reflecting andrepresenting all that a champion should be.Together, we shall make the rest of Australiatremble at the mere mention of Elliot Forbes,CHAMPION.

That is my plan for Mr. Forbes for 2011, a planthat will be easily attained. Now for K.J. Rollins.Last year, you smirked and gloated as you forcedme into an Aussie tow-rope match with themorbidly obese Mad Mike Massive, a wrestler Iused to manage. Through the blinding red mist of

pain, I saw you sitting there and rubbing yourhands together, laughing at my misfortune. It

became your personal vendetta to thwart me atevery turn, using your authority as Commissionerto repress not only myself, but those I manage.2011 will change all this. You see, with great

power come great riches, and with great richescome even greater lawyers. I have consulted my

legion of legal lackeys, and following consultationwith Elliot Forbes, our goal is Ebenizah J. Klaus,Commissioner, before the financial year is out. If Iwere you, Mr. Rollins (and I am eternally thankfulI am not), I would clear your desk, hand in yourresignation and get the best medical insurance yourlimited resources can afford. Remember Mr.Rollins, that old saying: Dont get mad, get even.

I am Ebenizah J. Klaus, and I am better than you.

    Photo: SHWA/Amanda

Jarrad Slate successfully defended the SHWAChampionship atAscension II, fending off thechallenge of his Muscle Militia teammates, Pain

and The Wraith in a Hardcore match. The Wraithsuffered a nasty cut to his head via a Slate throwncookie tray early in the contest which took him outof the contest for a short period. The trio usedwhatever weapons they could get their hands onduring the contest including a barbed wire bat, stapler and pool cue. Slate got the win after 20+minutes of brutality, after he put Wraith through atable with a Death Valley Bomb. Following thematch the trio embraced, showing solidarity evenafter the hell they just put each other through.

    INTERSTATE INVASION

Photo: Amanda/SHWAAscension IIsaw the debuts of two Interstate

elbow drop for the pinfall.DeAth did not endear himself to the SHWA fans

making comments about Santa Claus and the fansin attendance before his match with former SHWAChampion, Mad Mike Massive. Massiveappeared from the backstage area dressed as Santaand started brawling with the former CWA(Championship Wrestling Australia) Champion

before the referee even had time to call for the bell. The battle of the big men saw both competitors getthe advantage several times during the contest

before Massive got the win after hitting a BlackHole Slam.

    FORTUNELESS SOLDIERS

Ebenizah J. Klaus faction, the $oldiers of Fortune(Elliot Forbes and Avalanche) are no more afterlosing to the duo of Jake Paragon and Crazy TrainatAscension II. Prior to the match the $oF did notknow who they would be facing in the bigstipulation match were none too pleased whenCommissioner, KJ Rollins introduced theiropponents. Even Klaus interference during thematch couldnt save the duo when Crazy Train hitthe Train wreck on Elliot Forbes. Klaus had wordswith former $oF member, Sean Ravage on his way

back to the locker room. What will Klaus haveplanned for SHWA and in particular theCommissioner?

    WHEN LIGHTNING STRIKES

Crimson Lightning came away with an impressivevictory over 2010 WPW Rookie of the Year, DanSteel and his former manager, Jimmy JamalJenkins atAscension II. Lightning got the earlyadvantage over the pair, before the numbersadvantage came into play. The resident superherogot the victory after Steel and Jenkins collided mid-ring and hit a double clothesline to get the pin onSteel.

    PAROLED CHAMPION

A new Masked Battle Royal Champion wascrowned atAscension II, when the paroled convictfrom Casuarina Prison, Shiv Simpson, lasteliminated, El Jim Bob. The match saw the debutsof the Invisible Man, who had quite a battle withJim Bob and the flamboyant, Wayne Kerr. Ichi! Ni! San! WPWs resident puro referee,Toshio, counts down his top san moments, matchesand events on a bi-monthly basis.

Toshio here, for the first San Count of 2011! Justlike last year, I made a trip over to the orient whereI checked out everything Japan had to offer, including pro wrestling! Last year I counted downthe top 3 shows, so this time I think i'll be a bitmore detailed and count down the top threematches (all of which will be available on theinternet in the near future). Seeing as WrestleKingdom V will be covered later in The MeanScene, I'll countdown my top 3 from anything andeverything other than the Tokyo Dome show(WKV).

SAN!!!Takashi Sugiura, Atushi Aoki and Naomichi

Marufuji vs. Kensuke Sasaki, Kento Miyahara andKatsuhiko Nakajima

    Photo: Wrestlingmania

This was a great main event NOAH vs. KensukeOffice match-up from Pro Wrestling NOAH onJanuary 10th in Yokohama. Sasaki is one of the

biggest and best legends in Japan, who also had astint in WCW from 1992 to 1996, during which

time he won the WCW United StatesChampionship (defeating Sting during an event in

Japan).Sasaki has been a heavyweight champion in all

three top promotions in Japan, and currently runsKensuke Office. On January 10th he teamed withtwo of his students to battle an all-star NOAHteam, of the GHC Heavyweight Champion

(Sugiura) and the GHC Junior Tag TeamChampions (Aoki and Marufuji). The match wasfast paced and brutal at some points, with the mainfocus of rookie Miyahara trying to take down theheavyweight champion.

After some great action, and unfortunately forMiyahara, Sugiura near-destroyed Miyahara withstrikes, before pinning him with an Olympic Slam. This turned out to be a fantastic main event to end avery good show, with the champions walking outvictorious.

    NI!!AJPW Junior Heavyweight Championship

Kaz Hayashi (c) vs. Minoru Tanaka

    Photo: Pro Wrestling Ponderings

In a match pitting two veterans against each otherwith Kaz Hayashi defending his All Japan ProWrestling Junior Heavyweight Championshipagainst challenger, Minoru. If you're uncertain withthese two individuals (which is very likely), they

both have competed on national television in amajor North American wrestling company. KazHayashi had a brief stint in WCW in the late1990's, whereas Minoru was involved in the TNAWorld X-Cup Tournament in 2006. They have had

classic battles in AJPW before, but they wouldcollide one more time on January 2nd in KorakuenHall.

Kaz at this point had held the title for almost twoyears, and although Minoru had held Junior titles in

New Japan and other companies, he had never heldthe AJPW Jr. strap. The match was fast andintense, with both men doing everything they couldto get the victory, and more importantly the title. After a long battle, Minoru was able to apply hissignature Cross Armbreaker to defeat Hayashi viasubmission. With this, Minoru was crowned thenew champion, ending the 23 month reign of

Hayashi. This match is definitely worth checkingout (if you can find it), as it truly was what the

    Junior division is all about.

    ICHI!ZERO1 World Heavyweight Championship

Daisuke Sekimoto (c) vs. Ikuto Hidaka

    Photo: Talk Wrestling Online

Going into this event I knew that the main event ofSekimoto vs. Hidaka was going to be great, but Ididn't know that this match would the very best I'veseen in a live environment. Daisuke Sekimotocomes from Big Japan Pro Wrestling (the deathmatch promotion, although Sekimoto is a purewrestler), and over the past couple of years he has

spread his name all over Japan and the world. In2008 he travelled to America to compete inCHIKARA, and would return multiple times aftersetting an awesome first impression on the fans. Healso had the opportunity to wrestle in AJPW for thefirst time in 2011, after being told he was too small

to compete in the company 10 years ago.Hidaka is currently the Zero1 Junior

Heavyweight Champion, and has been one of thevery best junior heavyweight wrestlers in Japanover the past couple of years. On January 1st hewould test his luck in the heavyweight league, challenging Daisuke Sekimoto for the belt.

I cannot explain this match in words, as this is acontest you need to see for yourself. Not only didSekimoto prove himself as champion, but Hidakashowed everyone that he can hang with the best, nomatter what size or strength. Overall an amazingmatch with Daisuke retaining the gold, and when

you get the chance to see this match check it out asyou'll have no regrets!

That's The San Count (Japanese Edition Vol.2)for this time folks; I'll be back in two months timeto talk once again on the Western Australian scene. After the holiday season, the shows will start againon January 29th, as SHWA presents HardcoreHavoc

NC Viper is heading into his fifth year in thewrestling business and is the most successfulAboriginal wrestler to come out of the WA scene in

recent history, if not ever. Tez got the opportunityto speak to Westside Pro Wrestlings 2010 NHPWWrestler of the Year about his career.

    Photo: Tez Himself

WPW: How did you get your start in the

business?VIPER: I started out saying wrestling quotes atwork at the Nike factory in Subiaco. My friendBjorn Berlinger said he knew of a company inPerth to tryout in and I ended up doing threemonths training with EPW. I made another friendthere in Dustin Dice, who brought me in to another

promotion in 2006. That was my start in the

business.WPW: How did the name NC Viper come

about, as well as the nicknames The Hostile

    Reptile and The Aboriginal Original?

VIPER: Towards the end of my Aussie Rulescareer, I always wanted to be called Viper. I toldno-one in the wrestling circle, so when that chancecame to be asked what name I wanted to be called,it wasnt taken. The company didn't want me to be

just called Viper; they wanted me to add more to it.So I came up with names, it wasn't working so. Iwas thinking CM Punk doesn't have a first name soI thought NC? NC Viper.

The hostile reptile (laughs), came to me whilewatching a documentary, the presenter said thereptile is getting hostile. So I thought switch thereptile hostile around and boom. It was thatsimple!! Aboriginal original, (laughs) cause I am.I'm the only in WA.

WPW: In 2007 you won your first championship

    defeating James Draker (now EPWs

Gorgeous Garry Schmidt). What was it like

    winning the title?

VIPER: Winning a title in any company is gold, but to win so early in my career makes it that much

more satisfying. The match was at UnleashedonOctober 20, 2007. I'll never forget it!

WPW: Can you tell us how the spitting of the

mist came about and what do the different

    colours mean?

VIPER: The venom as I like it to be called. Well,it's Viper marking his territory like any Aboriginaldoes when he marks his territory. So if you've beenmarked with the venom I own you, youre mine.Red: Blinds and burnsBlue: Blinds and confusesGreen: Blinds and causes sickness.

WPW: You are the only wrestler in WA to have

his own custom entrance themes, its a rarity on

the Australian scene. How did it come about and

will the themes be available to purchase down

    the track?

VIPER: Am I? That's great! I asked the same

person who got me into wrestling Bjorn, who isalso a rapper to do a theme for me Who's DaMan? Bjorn also did the AO (Alpha Omega)theme. There are others like Knowledge Bonedwho's done NC Viper. Paul Flowers is doing one, which is in progress and Chris O'Mac also has onein the works. You will be able to hear all thosesongs and other themes I've used for my entranceon CD. The CD will be available at NHPWsBattleof Honourshow on February 11 or throughFacebook at Wrestler Ncviper.

WPW: You made an awesome entrance before

your Hardcore Match with Balls Mahoney atNHPWs Global Conflict. Who came up with the

idea for the big entrance?VIPER: Thanks for thinking it was awesome. Itwas awesome. I got a lot of good feedback for thatentrance. I actually came up with it and it took a lotof organizing. I hope to do it again.

WPW: What have been some of your favourite

matches throughout your career?VIPER: I'm going to pick one from each year that Ican remember.2006: My first (vs. Chris OMac and Mark Valour

atIntensity) only because I can see how far I havecome.2007: I've got two for this year, Xander at

with?KrackerJak in a Cage match, Ace Wilson in a Tag

Team match and TNT in a Tag Team match. Thoseare the ones I can think of off the top of my head. Iwould be more than happy to have a match withany Aussie fellow wrestler!

WPW: You recently released a DVD of matches

from throughout your career called Once

Bitten. As well as with the entrance theme, this

is something you dont see much on the local

scene. Are you happy with how the DVD turned

    out?

VIPER: I'm happy the way it turned out with SeanK productions. That's five years work on the twodiscs. So will another come out? Not for a while.Do yourself a favour and buy "Once Bitten" at

NHPW or through Facebook at Wrestler Ncviper

Photo: Tez HimselfOne half of the voices of Explosive Pro Wrestling, and the 2009 WPW Commentator of the Year,Mean Dean Olsen brings WPW all the latest on the

    EPW scene.

Happy New Year to you all, I hope you all havehad a great holiday season and 2011 Im sure isgoing to be another huge year for local wrestling. This month instead of focusing on Explosive ProWrestling, and due to the fact there hasnt been ashow sinceRe-Awakening 9, I will be giving you areview of a massive wrestling event I managed to

witness first hand. Now Boxing Day 2010, myself and fellow WPW

writer Toshio, flew all the way to Japan to checksome of the best wrestling this world has to offer,we saw some amazing shows involving many fedsAJPW, Osaka Pro, DDT, BJW, Neo, Zero-1, a

New Years Eve super show as well. All of theseshows had fantastic wrestling, BJW had deathmatches, AJPW had the Great Muta, Zero-1 hadthe best match we saw on the trip between DaisukeSekimoto vs. Ikuto Hidaka, an absolute classic.Butthe show I shall review is the biggest show ofthe year in Japan, and the main reason for our visit,

New Japan Pro Wrestlings Wrestle Kingdom 5!

    Photo: Liam Ferguson

It took place in the Big Egg Tokyo Dome, avenue with lots of history and just a massive place. It was exciting just walking into the Dome for theevent, after we got our seats, it was time for twodark matches (matches that only the live crowdwould see and would not be broadcast on the live

PPV).The first match was Wataru Inoue, Tiger Mask

IV, Tama Tonga & Tomoaki Honma vs. YujiroTakahashi, Tomohiro Ishii, Jado & Gedo. Itseemed a bit thrown together, but the feud betweenTiger Mask and Ishii was what kept this one goingand even after the end of the match (Inoue pinnedGedo) Mask and Ishii kept fighting, so it seems thisfeud will continue. The second dark match wasKohji Kanemoto & Ryusuke Taguchi vs. KennyOmega & Taichi Ishikari. Omega seemed to star inthis match in which his team was victorious.

Then on the big screen of the massive entrance

way a countdown appeared, letting us know howlong until the big show started, and then finallywith pyro going off and lots of loud music we wereunder way, the opening contest was a three wayhardcore match for the IWGP tag titles betweenBad Intentions (Giant Bernard & Karl Anderson)vs. Muscle Orchestra (Manabu Nakanishi &Strongman Jon Anderson) vs. Beer Money, Inc.(James Storm & Robert Roode) from TNA. Thiswas a fine opener with Bad Intentions retaining thetitles. Karl Anderson was in fine form, Beer Moneywere entertaining and the Strongman showedamazing strength in military pressing Bernard for

quite some time. It was a fast paced, action packedopener and the crowd was into it too.

Next was Jushin Thunder Liger & HectorGarza vs. Mascara Dorada & La Sombra displaying

NJPWs relationship with Mexicos CMLL. Ipersonally have been a big fan of Jushin Liger foryears so this was quite exciting. A good match too, with lots of crazy Lucha moves, unique offence and

planchas a plenty. In the end La Sombra scored thepin fall after a corkscrew body attack on Liger.

Hiroyoshi Tenzan vs. Takashi Iizuka was the nextmatch, Deep Sleep to Lose was the title for thismatch, and you could only win by putting your

opponent to sleep. This feud has been going for along time and with Tenzan making his return frominjury the crowd was firmly behind him. Personallyit was also fun to see Iizuka doing all his crazyantics that he is known for. Tenzan won this bout

by putting Iizuka to sleep with the anaconda vice.NJPW and TNA went against each other in a

hardcore match next as Toru Yano was up againstthe Whole FN Show Rob Van Dam. Everyonein the Dome was amped to see RVD and the matchwas good too. RVD hit all his trademark moves asYano used all kinds of weapons. The match cameto an end when RVD hit his five star frog splash.

Yuji Nagata vs. Minoru Suzuki was next, dubbedNo Justice, No Life this was a match I was really

    Westside Pro Wrestling Page 13

looking forward to. These two have a long historybattling each other. Also, the styles of both guysmeant this one was gonna be stiff hard hittingwrestling at its finest and believe me it was.Forearms and hard slaps were traded in this matchto a point that neither man would back down, so the

beatings continued. A perfectly executed match up,had the big fight feel and was the best match onthe card thus far. Nagata got the win but Suzukihad nothing to be ashamed of.

The IWGP Jr. Heavyweight championship wason the line next as Prince Devitt defended his titleagainst DDT wrestler (and IWGP Jr Heavyweight

Tag Team champion) Kota Ibushi. This was one Icouldnt wait for and it didnt disappoint. This wasdefiantly one of the best matches I saw on my trip, great back and forth exchanges, hard striking andsome breath taking aerial moves. Kota Ibushi issurely one to watch with a arsenal of spectacularhigh flying moves. Devitt on the other hand wastoo good for Ibushi and retained his title with theAvalanche Bloody Sunday. This match wasawesome.

Next showcased the NJPW relationship with ProWrestling NOAH in a tag match Hirooki Goto &Kazuchika Okada vs. Takashi Sugiura & Yoshihiro

Takayama. Having not seen a NOAH show at thatpoint of the trip I was really excited to see Sugiurawrestle and it was a good solid match too neitherteams let us down.Takayama scored the win forteam NOAH in a good solid tag team match.

Next was the TNA world title match with JeffHardy defending against one half of team NoLimit, Tetsua Naito. To put it kindly, this matchsucked. It is to no fault of Naito either he is aquality wrestler who can have a great match withalmost anyone, had TNA sent anyone else thismatch would have been great. The blame lies withHardy who came all the way from U.S.A. to

Japans biggest even of the year and put on a half

assed performance, not once getting out of firstgear and being out of breath in the first twominutes, it was a disgrace to everyone wrestling onthis show, I really cant stress what terrible shapeJeff was in. Now I was a fan of his at one time, andI know he has his problems but if he really couldnt

lift his game for such a huge event TNA shouldhave sent someone else. This was the worst match Isaw on the trip and I feel sorry for Naito.

To pick things up next was another NJPW vs.NOAH match, Shinsuke Nakamura vs. GoShiozaki, now I was going for Shinsuke and Toshiowas going for Shiozaki this made it interesting, the

bout saw Go having the upper hand early on andwas quite dominant. Just when things were goingShiozakis way Shinsuke got the win with hisBoma Ye, this was a contender for match of thenight, fantastic!

Togi Makabe vs. Zero 1s, Masato Tanaka was a

hardcore battle with all kinds of craziness; weaponsand even had a suplex through a table. The feud

between these two has been really good and thismatch was a good way to end it on a grand stagewith the momentum changing throughout and bothmen fighting hard. Togi got his revenge in the end

by defeating Tanaka who injured him previously. The main event was next the IWGP Heavyweight

title was on the line and it was huge, the G1 climax2010 winner and IWGP champ, Satoshi Kojimawas putting the gold on the line against NJPWsmain man, Hiroshi Tanahashi. After a nice introshowing champions of the past it was time. The

biggest match on the biggest show and it was anabsolute wrestling clinic. These two showed whythey deserved to be at the top, it was a first classwrestling match that just built and built as it wenton. Full of great technical wrestling as well as hardstriking, it was everything it should have been. Bythe time this match was wrapping up these weremany false finishes and counters that made theatmosphere in the Dome electric. Tanahashi wonthe match and ended Kojimas title reign with theHigh Fly Flow. An amazing match to end a greatshow, although I was going for Kojima I washappy to see a new IWGP champ crowned live.

All in all this was a grand show with a mindboggling card, and it lived up to its expectationsNew Japan showed why it is the king of sports,Toshio and I were glad to be there to see it live, think of it as WrestleMania, but with betterwrestling. We also met a lot of wrestlers on our tripand had a great time, if anyone is ever thinking ofgoing to Japan, for wrestling or otherwise, Istrongly recommend it.

So thats my Wrestle Kingdom 5 review, Ill beback next month to give you all the news on EPWas 2011 is going to be massive for Explosive ProWrestling. Until next time keep supporting local

wrestling and stay tuned to epwperth.com

Shane Haste made his debut in early 2003 and overthe following eight years has travelled around thecountry and throughout the United States and beingthe first West Australian based wrestler to get hisname on the PWI 500. Tez got the opportunity tospeak with the former EPW champion to get histhoughts on his career to date.

Foreword: So because Im a big shot (douchebagwith an ego) I thought Id do a quick foreword forthis interview. This interview is full of a lot ofhorrible ramblings and things that probably dontmake sense. I wanted to put a lot of stuff in hereyou probably wouldnt hear from me usually causeyou never know when I might get asked stuff againand Ill probably forget some of these stories(laughs). So be warned Im not a professional

writer, Im not very smart and I forget properdetails of stories and even the question sometimeshalfway through answering them. But I enjoyeddoing this and I hope you enjoy reading it, ifyouve got any feedback or questions please feelfree to message me on my Facebook page, itsShane Haste or something.- Shane Haste.

    Photo: Explosive Professional Wrestling

WPW: Can you tell us a bit of the background

about how you got into EPW and when you first

    started training?

HASTE: Well I always loved wrestling as a kid, I

didnt get to see much of it apart from what was onTV (like when Channel 9 used to have WCW on atlike 4 in the arvo). So growing up I would alwayswrestle around with my mates, jumping offcouches and generally annoying my parents.

Eventually in high school I started doing thebackyard thing (with a few faces that are stillaround today). And yeah then ECW started up andwe went to every show and I thought as soon as Ican Im gonna train there. So I was at the firsttraining camp along with such people as Kiel,Tommy Cartel and Im pretty sure even Mr. BrettCorvus was there. It was hell, but was awesomefun, there were like 20 odd people there (and Imean odd in both ways) and I got told I was

welcome to train. So I busted my ass off working to save the money

and not long after I was there one bright Sundaymorning for my first wrestling training session. Itsfun to think back to those days and remember the

people who have come and gone and the greatnicknames (laughs).

WPW: You made your debut at The Uprising

event in February 2003 in a Four Way Match

    including Bobby BadBlood (Marshall), Kiel

Steria and Chris J. Lazareth. What memories

do you have from your debut match and your

    rookie year?

HASTE: Man I remember the weeks leading up tothat match, I think it was meant to be a three waythen got turned into a four way and back and forth

which is great when its your first match and youretrying to think of things to do for it (laughs). Itsfunny cause during the planning I needed a toprope move to throw in there and I was just likescrew it Ill do a frogsplash thinking Id never bedoing it again and we all know how that went.

Leading up to it they wanted me to work on thesplash a lot, so I practiced the aim onto a crash mata heap of times, then onto thinner gym mats andthen just straight onto the mat. So many times, Ithink back and think stupid kid what were youthinking, plus ask anyone and when I hit thefrogsplash I REALLY hit it so all that time

practicing my aim was really for nothing. As for the rest of the year it was pretty good,

pretty sure I didnt win a single match though. I useto watch my matches back all the time but now justthinking about them makes me think eeewwww,

plus I even weird myself out with some of the stuffI use to do. What a dorky kid. I feel sorry forStormy (Davis Storm) and Carny (FN Carnage)who had to put up with me while I was training(laughs).

WPW: Mid 2004 saw you team up with Kiel E.

wrestled them before and was on a level muchabove myself he took care of most of it and I justhad to do what I always did at that time, be me.

Man that trip was great fun though, getting tohangout with all those guys and kickin it withthem in Bunbury. (Laughs) Some great moments

and stories that unfortunately I cant share with youbut Ill tell you this the next year while at the NWATV tapings I caught up with Danielson again andhe was playing it off like he remember me but Icould tell he didnt until I reminded him I was theguy who showed him a certain genital trick. For therecord it wasnt his I did the trick on, it wasnt likethat at all, 100% hetro. Ahh, totally dragging mygood name through the mud...

    Photo: Stricks Photos

WPW: Late 2008 saw you make your first US

tour. In only your third match outside of

Australia you had a NWA World Heavyweight

title match against Scrap Iron Adam Pearce.

Were you surprised that the NWA gave you a

shot at the 10 pounds of gold so soon after your

    arrival?

HASTE: Nah bro, its Shane Haste youre talkingto. But seriously I was told I could have the match

before I went over so Id thought about it enough. The thing with wrestling is you shouldnt believeanythings gonna happen till its actuallyhappening, so being told I was getting the matchdidnt have me convinced it was gonna happen butI was gonna head to the states regardless.

Great guy to work with and having that match so

soon into my trip was great because it taught methe right way of doing it thusly I didnt pick up anybad habits. Feels pretty rad to be one of fewAustralians to get to wrestle for it though, so whenI see people talk about it I still think f**k yeah.

WPW: What was it like being part of the early

days of the NWA Showcase TV tapings, was

there a lot of difference to how the show was

taped compared to EPWs Monday Night

Wrestling tapings?HASTE: Yeah there was a huge difference, butthats the differences between Perth and L.A. Herein Perth we're pretty laid back and EPW is a family

so we're all looking out for each other and junkwhere L.A is very business and the guys there are

all over the place and theres so many of them. Somad props to (David) Marquez and all those guysin charge to get a handle on everyone and get theshow out there.

It was a great learning experience for sure and Igot plenty of good feedback. One of the matches I

was wrestling Inspirted Fidel (Im 100% sure thatwasnt his name but it was something like that) andPearce interrupted it and threw me into the ring

post and shit me it was the hardest Ive ever beenthrown into anything in my life, back on cameraIm probably all looking dazed as Im headingtowards it but in my mind it was AAAHHH!!! Imgonna die! Then I hit it and just spun ... and that

    part was pretty fun.

    Photo: Explosive Pro Wrestling

WPW: Early 2009 saw the Blitz Team have an

excellent series of matches with then Tag Team

Champions, Dan Moore and Chase Griffin.

Which one stood out your favourite?HASTE: I dont know, theyre all just a big blur tome now (laughs) but even if not I probably couldnt

pick a favorite. I have favorite moments from thembut its mostly the emotion that went into eachmatch that really sticks out to me. Being a worldlyseasoned wrestled I am I really wanted to bring outin them what I think is the most important thing inwrestling and thats the emotion, the raw fire of

passion that if you get it right you dont have to doshit and the crowd will eat it up. When Chase wentto cheat in the Goldrush match and I challengedhim to swing it out with me, it doesnt get much

rawer then that. I was just yelling at him to hit meand man he brought the fire... and beat the p**s outof me (laughs), so it just shows you get what youask for.

It was great fun in the second match reversing allthe shit we did in the first, I laugh at my herculeanlike strength when I pushed Dan mid air into Chasewhen they went for the double double. The tablematch was a great way to finish it, was so easy andfun. I mean when you got so many tables you reallydont need to put much more thought into it. Myhighlight from it was dropping the ladder onMoores head (laughs) sure felt like a p***k doing

it but I knew its what he would wanted me to do.Another little real life of Shane Haste fact after

  • 8/7/2019 Westside Pro Wrestling - Issue 17 - January 2011

    17/22

    Westside Pro Wrestling Page 17

the show that night on my way home, I was in yetanother car crash the brakes locked up on my carand I skidded out through a red light and got nailed

but another car. Everyone was ok, but man it was ascary moment after when I knew I was fine butthen seeing another smashed up car I was like holy

s**t. They were fine too and very nice about thewhole thing... maybe a little too nice. So lesson to

be learnt here: Dont ask me for a ride.

WPW: Can you tell us about your experiences

working for Pro Wrestling Guerilla in 2009?HASTE: PWG was awesome fun, from thematches to the crowds and especially the backstageatmosphere. Theres a few things that happen likeevery PWG show and my first match there, Im

pretty sure I did all of them. It was a four waymatch between Human Tornado, Charles Mercury,JTP and myself, and Tornado and JTP are as aboutas popular as you get over there so I thought I

would side with Mercury. Big mistake, I instantlygot pummeled by Tornado and thrown out of thering cleaning up like five people and spilling two

jugs of beer (To those who dont know PWGdoesnt have guard rails, the crowd just sits up tothe ring) then Tornado came flying out of the ringonto me wiping out another five odd people THUSticking off two things, 1: Messing up where peopleare sitting and 2: Spilling someones full beer.

Later in the match Mercury and I went to giveLTP the old spirit squad throw up in the air thingy

but we were all so sweaty that as we went to flinghim up into the air our hand slipped right off and he

got about half a foot up and we looked like wethrew an invisible man up. So this got me my firstand ticked off #3... the you f****d up chant. Thennear the end I was a little jumbled to what I wasdoing (probably after being kicked in the head somuch and hard during Tornado's corner kick dance)and all I remember was seeing Mercury standingthere ready to Powerbomb LTP and I thought s**tI better take him out so I did the fourth thing: animpromptu superkick! Now I dont do super kicksso I know it was the spirit of PWG and Indywrestling taking over me as I thrusted my foot intothe already split chin of Mercury definitely making

it much worse. The other two times I worked for them I was

more confident and fist pumped for the crowdwhich was way more fun because for some reasonthey took me as a big guy, so I got to man handleeveryone and use my power moves.Backstage wasgreat too, as some of you know PWG get some ofthe best Indy guys in to work and at PWG shows

theyre so relaxed and having a good time. Solistening to their stories and seeing them preparewas wicked for learning and getting to know whatto expect from wrestling and working in America. One of the shows also had Dragon Gate guys thereso it was packed back there and theyre a lot of funtoo with their over politeness.

The crowds there were awesome too, they wouldpop for everything! Someone did a Russian legsweep and they lost their s**t (it probably helpedthat they were mostly drunk). So all in all I reckonI had a good run there though its funny I got

booked there cause the promoter saw me doing a

630 dive and thought shit yeah we'll get a coolflippy guy yet once I got there all I did was throw

people around and maybe did one standingMoonsault.

WPW: You were booked to take on Teddy Hart

at an Alternative Wrestling Show card in

September 2009, but apparently AAA wantedhim to stay in Mexico. You ended up taking on

former Wrestling Society X star, Scorpio Sky.

Were you disappointed that you didnt get to

    take on Hart?

HASTE: I was pretty surprised I got put up againsthim in the first place, usually over there they dontreally put you up against the out of town names. SoI talked to a few of the guys there who had workedwith him or had met him and all I kept getting backwere these horror stories, people who met him saidhe was a nice guy and seemed normal but the

people who had wrestled him where telling me

about how much of a nutbar he was... but still anice guy.

So leading up to getting to the show that day I

  • 8/7/2019 Westside Pro Wrestling - Issue 17 - January 2011

    18/22

    Westside Pro Wrestling Page 18

was pretty worried thinking whats this guy gonnabe like and how awful is this going to be, then weget there and they tell me has had to go back toMexico and cant do it. And to be honest I was likethank god, then when they told me Id be upagainst Sky I was as excited as youd think I would

be to wrestle Hart (laughs).Skys a great guy and an awesome wrestler and

was defiantly on my list of people to go againstthere. I really wish someone had put the match up,I never even got to see it back but man it had someawesome stuff in it (to toot my own horn) and henailed me with so many knees and elbows. Butyeah it turned out to be a great night and hell yeahId love the opportunity to not wrestle crazy Hartand work Scorpio again.

WPW: Late 2010 you attended the Harley Race

Training Academy. How was it and were you

nervous at all taking part in the NOAH/WWE

    tryouts?

HASTE: Not really. Id gotten into town about 2-3weeks before it so Id met the guys down there andgotten to know what it would be like. Also theweekend before we went to Kansas to go see ashow some of the local guys were on and it turnedout it was like a 4-5 hour long TV taping and I waswearing shorts and a T-Shirt. What does that matteryou might ask well for those 4-5 hours I was sittingwatching this show in the freakin freezing coldweather, it was shit cold. So I ended up catching acold, awesome thing to get two days before thecamp (oh yeah I should mention its a NOAH/WWE camp, not a try out).

So the year before this camp had 50+ people to it,WWE and NOAH wrestlers there to take it andshow people new and amazing things but for usthere was only eight of us... and no one from WWEcame. Two upper office guys from NOAH came, who though not wrestlers still had a wealth ofknowledge and interesting things to teach. Also ofcourse Harley was there too and though he's gettingon his age and cant move like the king used to hesstill as sharp as ever with his wrestling mind and

picks up on a lot of things and has great advice.

I managed to scrape through the first day but thesickness killed me that night and I was unable tomake it the next, the rest of the week I wasnt atfull power either but I think that worked in myfavour as it slowed me down which meant morecontrol of my body and helped improve my pacing. So it was a long week for us with a lot of matches, some good and some bad. I remember Mike almostlosing his shit a few times (laughs) but luckily wehad plenty of trips to Starbucks to cheer us up. Inthe end it turned out to be great for us because eventhough a WWE rep never came we had impressedHarley which with his connections turned out great.

A few days after the camp we went in to say byeto Harley and thank him for the training andwisdom, we told him we were gonna head to

Florida to give it a crack there and he said to waithere a little bit longer and he'll give WWE a call.So for 3 days Harley kept calling WWE for us justto put in a good word which is awesome of him, Imean he's Harley freakin Race he dont have to dos**t for no one (laughs). So eventually Harley got

through to them and after a bit of conversation theysaid they'd love to have a look at us and we shouldhead down to FCW in Tampa. And thats when thereal tryout happened.

Now I cant tell everything that we did and allthat cause Im sure we signed confidentiality

papers but Ill give you a vague description of whatwent down. We spent a week there, trained withtheir guys did a few taped things that would be sentoff to WWE offices and watched/helped out at theshows that weekend where we could. It was suchan awesome experience there, the place is likeheaven for wrestlers who want to learn, the amount

of experience and wealth of knowledge there isincredible and everyone is so helpful and fun(laughs).

Tampa is a beautiful place too, so many places toeat, the weather was great and it was the first timein awhile we'd seen some pretty girls (laughs),gotta remember we'd been in Eldon, Missouri for amonth and a bit before that. So the tryouts weregreat and we were having such fun there that Ididnt feel the nerves and Harleys camp turned out

pretty good for us I mean we still keep in contactwith the NOAH guys now too.

WPW: Do you have any plans to return to theStates in 2011 and possibly appear for NWA

Hollywood?HASTE: I dont have any plans to but if I was inthe area I sure would, the set up they got for itlooks great and I love working with the guys theyhave there. We (Mike and I) were going to try bethere for one taping while we were in the states lastyear but ended up in Tampa that week so we didntmake it.

    Photo: Explosive Pro Wrestling

WPW: The past couple of years in EPW have

seen you as part of two very successful Tag

Teams. Having Championship reigns as part of

the Blitz Team with Alex Kingston and TMDKwith Mikey Nicholls. Are you hoping to get back

    Westside Pro Wrestling Page 19

in contention for the EPW Championship in

    2011?

HASTE: This year I kinda wanna have a crack ateverything. I love tagging with Mike so you'lldefinitely see us keep on going, BUT that new beltdoes look awfully good. Since my last title run was

pretty forgettable, I do wanna take a hold of thechampionship again and really do something with it

but of course that would require beating DavisStorm and I havent been able to do that yet(laughs). Also with the Hardcore Shield beingadded it seems like Im not a grand slam guyanymore SO Im gonna have to get that too(laughs). And the Rising Star Cup too I guess... Idont know how but Ill find a way.

WPW: You have wrestled some big names over

the course of your career, which have been some

of your favourites to wrestle, both here and in

the States and who would you like to face that

you havent had the opportunity to?

HASTE: Havent really wrestled big names(laughs), met a few. But to the question, I guess Idhave to say probably John Cena you know juststarting small (laughs).

But for realsies, Overseas Id love to wrestle afew guys in L.A. like Johnny Yuma, BrandonParker, Johnny Goodtime, Chris Kadillak and someothers Im forgetting at the moment. A lot of thoseguys are really good friends of mine, some who arefairly new still and have come a long ways fromwhen they started. Other US guys would be guyslike Davey Richards and Bryan Danielson whowould have rocked my world if I had got to testmyself against him while he was still in the Indies. The biggest on my to do list though is KENTA,dudes my fave and even though he'd probably kickme into a coma it would be awesome.

Back here in Australia theres a few too, fromover east theres the Fitness Maniacs and I reckontheres a match of the year to be had with themagainst TMDK for sure. Ryan Eagles would be afun match too aye. In Perth, Im really lookingforward to see how good some of the new guyscoming through here are, guys like Marcus Pitt, we

had a match many years ago when he was prettygreen and he's come a long way since then so Idlike to see if hes gotten better (laughs). Chase

Griffin and I have tangled many a times in tagmatches but I wanna roll with him in a singles, maybe even hardcore (we havent seen me do thatyet). Alex Kingston is on my list for singles too,now that we're not full time tag partners Id like totest the kid. Hes starting to travel around the

country and getting some wicked experience so Ithink its time to see if he's ready to become theman (laughs). Im pretty funny aye.

    Photo: Explosive Pro Wrestling

WPW: After nearly eight years in the business,

what does Shane Haste still hope to achieve in

    his career?

HASTE: I really wanna wrestle all over the world.I like the idea of traveling but I wont go anywheretheres not wrestling; wether it be matches or justtraining. Eight years really isnt very long inwrestling time I dont think and I feel like Imstarting to hit my stride now so Im hoping its all

uphill from here. I wanna recapture the EPW titleand defend, defend, defend it, around Australiawhere possible too.

In the long run I want to be in the WWE, do allthe things you can there, travel, have the momentsand junk. It looks like a lot of fun. After that Idlove to come home and help make EPW bigger and

better known. Hopefully if I accomplish somethingin wrestling and it will make wrestling in Australia

bigger and Australian wrestlers will get recognisedfor their skills. But really the short answer to it is: To make moneyand sell out. Sex, Drugs AND then rock n roll.

WPW: Thank you very much for taking the

time to speak to WPW, Shane.
